A "must read" for beginning investors!
As an investment professional I frequently recommend this book to adults clients who admit to knowing nothing about investing. I find it to be one of the most comprehensible and interesting explanations of the stock market in print. I gave a copy to my nephew for his 13th birthday and his father absconded with it. I recommended it to yet another client today and thought I would check and see if Amazon.com offered the book. They do but I think that there is a newer, revised version available.

More than fantasies
Although this book looks like one of those self-gratifying fantasies at first sight, it actually offers much much more than those watered-down stock market tales like "Wall Street" and "The Boiler Room". The reader is taken through the career of a City professional from his humble beginning to the near height of his life. The tales told about the inner workings of brokerage firms are gripping and sharp. The turn of events seems somewhat convenient, one cannot help but has the idea that the main point about writing this book is not about satisfying fantasies, but to reveal the true nature of the stock market and how it affects those who are dumb enough to play it blindly. This book reveals rare information that one will not find in any other self-help investment book. Read it wisely and carefully, but only after you have some fundamental understanding of the stock market. The insights you gain in reading this book will take you through a rollercoaster of ideas. In the end, you will find yourself coming to a conclusion that is much the same as you have suspected: Stock market is all about playing the game.

Stock Market Technique, No. 2

Highly Recommend
This is a compilation of articles written in the early part of the last century. The stories are fun to read, but more important there are messages that will serve to make you money, and help to preserve capital. It is funny, there is a 1929 chart of GE that shows the same type of rise and fall that we saw over the past year with many of the must own stocks. I found that what was true 70-100 years ago is still true today.

Strange Love: Or How We Learn to Stop Worrying and Love the Market
Published in Hardcover by Rowman & Littlefield (Non NBN) (February, 2002)
Authors: Robin Truth Goodman and Kenneth J. Saltman
Amazon base price: $76.00

A book everyone should read
At a time when consumerism has become the primary way in which people relate to the larger social order, Goodman and Saltman have written a rivoting critique of how corporae culture has undermined civic virture, participation, and citizenship. Written in a language that is accessible, clear, and vibrant, this book is a wake up call to educators, parents, and others about the need to resist selling democracy to the highest bidder. Goodman and Saltman examine in a number of studies how corporate culture lacks a language for ethics, justice, and and defending the public good. Read this book and pass it on to your children, friends, and teachers.

SUCCESS
Published in Mass Market Paperback by Ballantine Books (12 April, 1985)
Author: Michael Korda
Amazon base price: $3.50
Used price: $1.69
Average review score:

Success by Michael Korda
The thrust of this work is good; however, today's public is
looking for a social consciousness from corporate executives
and successful private entrepreneurs. Nevertheless, Michael Korda
makes some important points in his book. For instance, the
successful implementation of the existential work value seeks
to provide the individual with freedom and the opportunity for
creativity in order to function in assignments having very
little structure counterbalanced by considerable challenge.

Many of today's most difficult problems have very little
structure, an immediate demand for a solution and a critical
need for individuals who can build successful implementation
programs from scratch. Michael Korda names some classic
innovators in his work. For instance, Paul De Domenico made
his mark in selling macadamia nuts. Harry Freidenberg made a
fortune in marketing Star Trek memorabilia. The author points
to personal fitness as an important goal for aspiring to
top level positions. High energy is another important ingredient
in successful careers. This involves the ability to perform
sustained work on an ongoing basis. The process begins with
good posture and attentiveness to your surroundings. In addition,
the author points toward the need for self control in on-the-job
situations. In addition, it is vitally important to make lists
and checklists in order to ensure that things get done.
The author points toward a high level of organization as an important condition precedent to success. The author teaches
how to dress for success beginning with a simple clean white
shirt and subdued tie with polished shoes that fit well.
Importantly, Korda teaches how to turn failures into success.
Abraham Lincoln didn't achieve anything substantial until age 51.
Sir Winston Churchill had a difficult road leading to
Prime Minister.

Overall, this work points out some important factors in
planning for and implementing successful strategies in your
personal life and work career. Some of Korda's basic principles
are still relevant today. Nonetheless, executives need to be
cognizant of the public's perception of earned income and
percs. Korda's work may help in providing some structure
in your career planning and implementation program. For this
alone, the work may be worth reading. Andrew Carnegie's works
are an important complement to Korda's principles because
people respond well to genuine interest, the use of first names and dialogue aimed at the listener's specific interests.
