Must read - "shop manual" for healthy work place
This is a must read book for anyone wanting a first hand shop manual for guidance toward a healthy and productive work place in our very challenging times - especially for service firms. I suspect you've read the books that speak from the theory platform, from "I observed" platform, and from the "Wouldn't be nice" platform. Very few books bring us the rational insights and practical discoveries garnered from actually going through the process of dynamic office and business change over 5 years. It's a fast read and a hard trip to his "open book management" environment.

He too has read all the books you and I have read in our quest to understand and apply "good management" and "good communications" for the sake of our customers and employees. But Earl has stepped out of the crowd to give you a round by round story of his struggle to achieve what his soul was telling him.

Earl used Ed Deming's fundamentals as the springboard, but DON'T allow that to prejudge the jewels you will discover. He provides a no-nonsense account of what really happened - warts and all. He'll remind you about what worked and what he underestimated, mistakenly took for granted, thought was gospel and was not and the importance of truth, respect, patience, courage, and trust without preaching to you. He shares his values, which are the basis for our country's success. It's a piece of real life.

You can read it in a weekend and live it in a lifetime. He articulates what was, what is, and what must be for you and me, for our families, for our customers, and for our employees. He is a new friend and I am grateful.

Places where we buy: a very important topic.
This is truly a fine investigation into the design, construction, and experience of sales environments -- not just in the physical world, but also in the virtual worlds of TV, radio, print media, and the Internet. Sherry is an anthropologist who, together with the other contributors, paints a complex portrait of what it means to create a sales environment, what it means to experience one, and how the two processes relate. No marketing ace or designer can afford to do without Sevicescapes!

Fantastic!
This book is a MUST for anyone who wants to know what their money actually supports! After reading this book, I stopped supporting companies that were abusive towards animals or irresponsible in other ways and I switched to products from companies with a clear track record. I highly recommend this book.

Silent Revolution: The Rise and Crisis of Market Economics in Latin America

Author: Duncan Green
Amazon base price: $22.00
Average review score:

A stark and thoughtful discussion
Duncan Green is the director of research at the Just Pensions Project and an expert on socially responsible investment. In Silent Revolution: The Rise And Crisis Of Market Economics In Latin America (now in an updated and expanded second edition), Duncan Green offers the reader a hard look at the economic reforms which are wrenching the Latin American market today. Silent Revolution is a clarion wake-up call against unchecked dangers of neoliberalism run wild, the environmental costs of adjusting to change, the IMF and World Bank as "poverty brokers", and so much more. A stark and thoughtful discussion of potentially global importance, Silent Revolution ought to be mandatory reading for students of economics, governmental and corporate policy makers, and the non-specialist general reader with an interest in contemporary Latin American issues.

Excellent Primer ¿ This Book Is on the Money for New Traders
The Sixth Market is an excellent primer for new securities traders. It is well written, easy to read, and explains the subject of trading in a simple, but uncomplicated manner. The three authors combined 60 years trading experience provides readers with the basics for understanding what trading is all about and what is required to succeed. The authors are not only traders, but are also educators, and two of them have written numerous books on trading.

The first part of the book provides a short historical perspective on the securities markets from the beginning until the present time (Sixth Market refers to self-directed traders who trade electronically). The book also contains a 14 page glossary and a list of recommended reading, selecting a broker, and getting the right computer and trading setup.

More than half the book is devoted to the Six Steps necessary to prepare for trading. It is a comprehensive approach that includes:

1. Building Self-awareness ( goals, trading style, success factors, and discipline) 2. Learning Market Fundamentals (markets, orders, Level II, short sales, trading rules, selecting broker) 3. Understanding Charts (market psychology, candlesticks, support and resistance, moving averages) 4. Trading From Reliable Chart Setups (High probability patterns, trading plan, gaps, exits) 5. Mastering Your Trading Plan (risk and reward, money management, discipline) 6. I Don't Have the Willpower to be Disciplined (self-directed study)

Theey to trading is a solid education, discipline, and a trading plan. That is what this book covers, and that is why is great for beginners. There is no fluff in this book or war stories just the facts. I highly recommend this book to those just starting out in trading.

Social Democracy and Labour Market Policy: Developments in Britain and Germany
Published in Hardcover by Routledge (01 April, 2003)
Author: Knut Roder
Amazon base price: $90.00
Average review score:

Masterly work!
Knut Roder's in-depth analysis of labour market policies of the British Labour Party and German Social Democratic Party in the last two decades is a masterly account of the changes, and electoral consequences. Focusing on one of the core policy areas of any political party, but in particular of Social Democrats, the author applies interesting methodological approaches, which not only prove the significance of policy change in this field for electoral success or failure, but also show interesting similarities between the two parties. Roder has put a lot of effort in, and he has spoken to many key protagonists in both parties, including several former party leaders.
Whilst not easy to read, the book should nonetheless be studied by any student interested in the areas of party systems and the Third Way politics.
