Against the Market: Political Economy, Market Socialism and the Marxist Critique

Excellence in explaining what can be "boring"I chose this book for a book review for my Political Theory class. I love to read and write about marxism and market socialism, but every other book I've read has been boring, until I read this book. This book has an amazingly fresh approach to market socialism and political economy. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to look at a different side of Marxism and socialism; moreover, I highly recommend this book to any political science students who want an excellent summertime read to keep the brain in order ;) very good book! buy it!

Win-Win negotiatingThe term "Win-Win" has become an every day buzz word. I read Gerard's book nearly thirty years ago when the term was really something new. He actually coined the phrase "Everybody Wins." Virtually the same concept.
His examples are creative and pertain to real life situations. It is good to read a book by someone who has actually been there and done that. His other books are quite informative also. ;-)

A Must Read for the serious artist, curator, or collector. This book is not a casual read: it compliments the reader with painstaking detail and assumes a reasonable level of background knowledge about art and art history. That said, be prepared to have your eyes opened. Batschmann lays out how the decline of court patronage for visual artists made the process of legitimization of new art a conundrum which continues to the present day.
The author uses a chronological structure to point out how the exhibition space has become central to modern art. He addresses complex issues: How much involvement with "marketing" an artist may appear to have with delegitimizing the work in the public's opinion? Is there competition between the artists who make our cultural products and the curators who legitimize them by including or excluding them from shows? (definitely, says Batchmann, and the curators are winning...) What is the importance of installation art?
I am not an academic; and am not qualified to judge the depth or quality of the author's research. But as a visual artist whose work is concerned with the book and language, I read a lot. I rank this book with Sigfried Gideon's "Mechanization Takes Command" and Lewis Mumford's "Technics and Civilization" as being one of the most invigorating works of cultural analysis I have read.

What you need to know about the modern AS/400.As many have said, but I did not believe until I read this book, the new IBM AS/400 is not the system that it used to be. By the time I finished this book, I felt I had an excellent understanding of how the AS/400 worked, and how it could be used within my business. I would recommend it to anyone.

Asian Pacific Americans in the Workplace (Critical Perspectives on Asian Pacific American Series)

topical corporate culture guide on Asian Pacific AmericansThe book is available now. It helped me gain a better understanding of organizational systems and corporate culture from the Asian Pacific American viewpoint. The case studies were amusing and enjoyable, thus helping to guide me through the theoretical concepts that would of been other wise too overwhelming. The discussion questions and exercises were also very useful.

A solid overviewAs I find with all of the Fabozzi books, this is a very comprehensive overview of a complex subject. Fabozzi has gathered together an impressive list of experts who each write on what they know best. I found the chapter on Latin American loans to be particularly useful.

a great bookJack Bernstein is just brilliant. His forecast of Y2K market crash and rising energy price were just plain accurate. This is the same man predicted crash of Japanese Nikkie in late 80s. His prediction are largely derived from historical data and facts. Very thorough and methodical analysis. It is a must read for every traders and investors. I wished I have read this book in 1999 and could have saved me tons of money.
