Frontier Emerging Equity Markets Securities Price Behavior and Valuation

Foremost Authority
Dr. Kratz is certainly the foremost authority on this subject. His command of the intricacies of developing markets in Eastern Europe is exceptional. His understanding led the Deutsche European Equity Fund to its 5 star number 1 rank among stock funds in its category. One would be well-advised to listen to his insights into these exciting and critical markets.

Good book
I read Dr Kratz's expose of frontier emerging markets. A very good book. He masters this asset class and the details which make a good and savvy investor in frontier markets. It is by far one of the most interesting fields of international investing, and I am sure this book is just the beginning of many more to follow on the field - it's a primer. I recommend the book to students and practitioners of finance and investments. Dr Kratz strikes a healthy balance between academic thinking and practial experience and application.

Finally someone who understands frontier markets
Dr. Kratz's new book on frontier markets is essential to the understanding of this new genre within the equity asset class. It offers a unique journey through the creation of a young emerging equity market and supports conclusions with strong empirical analysis. It supports the notion that valuation in "frontier markets" is more an art than a science, but in order to truly understand such markets one has to be open-minded and a keen observer of what Kratz calls the philology of the frontier market valuation debate. This is new, and sure to fuel the debate on the subject of asset pricing in an environment with little objective and hard data to come by.

The Gaga Years: The Rise and Fall of the Money Game, 1981-1991

Authors: Brett Duval Fromson and Brett Duval-Fromson

A classic
Some critics have complained that Brett Duval-Fromson's the Gaga Years falls short of his Running and Fighting: Working in Washington. That's a bit like comparing the Cherry Orchard to King Lear and concluding that it isn't a very good play.

And in any case, the critics may not have been paying close enough attention. It is only on the second or third reading that one sees how Duval-Fromson's wit suffuses this book. One of many examples: The chapter on MiniScribe, a disk-drive maker whose financial shenanigans are compared to fall of Acre in 1291, is written without recourse to the letter "E" -- a wry comment on how MiniScribe ulimately lacked earnings.

While many consider the Gaga Years a business book, in my library its shelved elsewhere -- between Dumas and Eckhart.

Excellent
Duval-Fromson's work has it all: The braces, the big cigars, the Lydians. Drawing parallels between Croesus, Ivan Boesky, the beginnings of Lyme disease in Westchester, and George Soros' sparring with the Hunt brothers, the Gaga Years weaves a tale that will keep you turning the pages through pot after pot of Earl Grey.

Duval-Fromson's finest book is matched only, perchance, by E.A. Roy's work on Hungarian bearer bonds. I pray that it will come back in print.

Fromz Is Tops in My Book
Few financial journalists ask the tough questions as determinedly as the polymath Brett Duval-Fromson. This book is a freewheeling, far-ranging essay on how money works, how to play it -- and what it means.

Without lapsing into intrusiveness or self-involvement, Fromson practically makes high finance into an Aesop's fable in this incredibly accessible narrative. From his insight on the society of the Lydians to a quirky story about the Egyptian Pharaoh Ptolemy II, Fromson keeps the reader turning the pages -- and you just might learn something while you're at it!

Getting Hired in Any Job Market :

Getting Hired in Any Job Market
Getting Hired in Any Job Market is an excellent addition to the multitude of career placement information. Frances Schmidt's metaphoric style of writing and practical examples make this book easy to read. The workbook format allows a concrete means of dealing with the job search process and helps individuals to realize their goals and develop self-awareness that translates into the ability to write effective coverletters, resumes, and answers to tough interview questions. Frances Schmidt approaches the job search from an emotional and psychological approach, rather than a purely technical one, which makes this a valuable tool for anyone facing the daunting job search task. As a new graduate, this book has been an extremely useful tool for me.

Great Resource for those weary of job search hassles
As a career counselor, I usually tell students that the best thing I can do for them is to offer the resources to help them find the answers within themselves. Author Frances Schmidt has provided just such a resource in "Getting Hired in Any Job Market." This self-help volume is composed of user-friendly advice and exercises to prepare the reader for the job market. Ms. Schmidt displays her extensive career counseling experience in a very practical, hands-on approach. The foreword sums it up well, "the premise of this book is simple. You can be employed for a lifetime if you believe in yourself, approach the job hunt from the employer's point of view, and use each job as a pathway to the next opportunity."

While the book purports to help any job seeker, I believe it would be most helpful to the battle-weary. Think of that unemployed person asking for answers to 'why am I not getting any interviews?' "Getting Hired" takes the reader back to step one on a guided tour through a series of generalized self-inventory questions. Writing out the answers to the long series of questionnaires would take a fairly high commitment of time and concentration. I suspect that the typical job hunter may not be ready to commit the time unless initial efforts prove unsuccessful.

The person who actually does follow the guided exercises stands to learn a lot about self-awareness and job readiness. The chapters on resumes and master cover letters were particularly strong. If you have a friend, student, or client frustrated in their job search process, you could do him or her a favor by providing a copy of "Getting Hired in Any Job Market."

Great for new graduates!
I am very thankful for the timing of this publication by author, Frances Schmidt. As graduation approaches, I am finding myself in the middle of the transition process from college to career. I am experiencing many of the side effects that are mentioned in the book as part of the job search process. This book has helped me put into perspective my fears and to realize that my current state of confusion is transitory. The workbook format of this text enables the reader to self-reflect and discover what is preventing movement to phase III of the transition proces, which begins when one decides to take responsibility for getting an ideal job.

All new graduates struggle with these questions: "Am I good enough for that job?" "Do I have the necessary experience to compete and survive?" The issue of confidence is at the core of these questions. I have struggled with self-confidence all my life. This book helped me realize that several negative feelings stem from my lack of self-confidence. My lack of self-confidence is an example of what Frances Schmidt refers to as "self-imposed stone walls."

Every word is meaningful in Frances Schmidt's book. She gets right to the point about several aspects of the job market. She discusses the "Nitty Gritty" of how to job hunt, interview, and write resumes and cover letters. After reading her book, I learned that asking several people about what makes a great resume and cover letter may lead to frustration since "everyone is an expert." The time spent talking to others could be used to create a resume/cover letter masterpiece!

I sincerely recommend this book to any new graduate or person seeking "employment for life." It is a great investment. A lot of books that contain information about resumes and cover letters need to be disposed of in a few years. However, the information presented in Francs Schmidt's "Getting Hired in Any Job Market" is something that can be used for years to come.

Brilliant book, the best I've read!
Perhaps the most interesting and compelling finance book I've read in decades. Feeney takes even the most complicated ideas and brings them down to levels that even I could understand. Very well written, insightful and full of telling comments on the markets from one of its true masters. I highly, highly reccomend this book to anyone even remotely interested in the world of finance. I, and all of my colleagues who have read the book, can hardly wait for the sequel... sure to be as fabulous as this version. Two Thumbs Up!

A good introduction to financial derivatives

An practical marketing book for small town businesses
Tom Egelhoff has written a practical guide to marketing for businesses in small towns where ever they may be. One does not need a university degree or buckets of money to implement his ideas which are bound to assist any small business person to grow his business. Tom is genuine and sincere about what he has written, much of which is cleary based on his own experiences.

As an Advertising Manager of a small town newspaper based in North Eastern Victoria, Australia, I find Tom's book to be very useful and relevant to small business marketing in my area and I plan to use it frequently to assist my clients with practical marketing advice which value adds to the Advertising advice that I give.

I recomend the book to all small business people, especially those working in smaller communities.

An excellent reference as well a practical marketing guide.
Mr. Egelhoff gets to the heart of how to market your business in a "small town" format. However, the information he gives is practical and useful for all scales of business. His book helps to develop the user's business model from defining who you are, identifying who you sell to and how to critique what you've done. Mr. Egelhoff gives practical and specific areas to consider and useful suggestion and areas to avoid. This book is well worth the reading for anyone seriously considering starting their own business.

This is an excellent resource for the marketing novice!
When I needed to learn how to promote the Religion Dept. at the college I work at, this book came through with ideas and wisdom I could understand and implement!

This book is excellent for someone with absolutely NO marketing/promoting experience or educational background. The ideas are sound and, often, not expensive. The best thing is that it is adaptable to any type of group/organization/business.

The format is "friendy." Tom gets his points across in a way that YOU know YOU can do. He gives plenty of useful tips, and when this book is used in conjunction with the Internet, the information at your findertips will astound the reader!

This book is guaranteed to turn even the most unknowledgable person into a whiz at promoting "whatever" it is you need to promote, even Religion Departments!

It Was a Very Good Year : Extraordinary Moments in Stock Market History

Popular wisdom holds that, over time, the stock market outperforms any other method of investment, the key words being "over time"; folks who look to the stock market to get rich quickly are definitely playing with fire. Still, for those who like to live on the edge, Martin S. Fridson's book It Was a Very Good Year might offer some helpful hints for predicting a bumper year on Wall Street. Firstly, there are certainly patterns--most years in which stocks performed extraordinarily well began with extremely depressed stock prices--but never any guarantees. Fridson, an analyst and managing director at Merrill Lynch, illustrates this principle with plenty of anecdotes about those who struck it rich--and those who didn't. It Was a Very Good Year offers interesting and entertaining information about what makes the stock market tick but presents no ironclad system for making it big on Wall Street.

an insider's view
a very interesting books that provide an insider's view, hope more books like this could be put on market

Intelligent Insightful Information
I have been reading Michael Brush columns for years and his flair for writing intelligent straight forward editorials and articles is not only educational for the amatuer investor, it is remarkably insightful, honest and right to the point captivating the interest of investment pro's. I highly recommend this book as money well spent (and invested)

Great Book
Great book and invaluable resource. Wish I had it a few years ago when I started investing. It would have saved me a lot of money. The book is full of useful market insights that can only come from those who are there every day. I particularly liked the chapter on what to do when stocks blow up, since it is too easy to get scared out of a good position in times like those. Likewise, the chapter outlines the typical sell off scenarios that are actually great buying opportunities, and it tells you how to identify them.

the best book on (macro)economics I've ever read !
Ten years ago, by coincidence, I saw this book. I bought it, and since then I have recommended it to all my colleagues.
At that time, the book was new and contained all the most recent developments in the journals (it ends with hysteresis - well explained and at that moment a brand new topic in the journals).
But what I find more important is that this is the only book I read where all those journal-stuff was fitted into a coherent frame-work; for the first time I really understood what macro-economics (and their micro foundations) was all about.
Up till then, I had seen only fragmented pieces of macro theory and here these authors came with a coherent view, which would have taken myself years to fit together, and I was sorry that this was not the handbook I had at university.
I don't follow-up this field anymore, and the book has not been updated anymore since then (a pity I think) but I write this review out of gratitute for the insights the authors gave me: I finally realized that in this book all the pieces were fitted together and allowed me to really understand macro-economics.
Personally, I can only recommend it.

The best macroeconomics book for open economies.
Most of the textbooks in macroeconomics (Blanchard, Mankiew and Gordon) focus on basic IS-LM and AS-AD models which are useless in open economies. This book is perfect upgrade for everybody who has read basic macroeconomics textbooks and wants to go further. There is economic history review, everithing is based on imperfect labour markets and salter-swan diagram is perfectly implemented in standard macroeconomics tools together with IS-LM model.

A book on relevant economic theory
One of the best macroeconomics textbooks in the market.First of all it contains an excellent chronological survey of models. But above all, its approach based on wage bargain and mark-up pricing has great relevance in terms of real world phenomena, in contrast to most mecroeconomic textbooks based in the unrealistic competitive model. The main contribution is to set an scenario for a feasible and intelligent social negotiation and for economic policy, instead of definitive "natural" outcomes of economic performance. I hope the authors keep on updating this book

Complexities of global economics deciphered
The global economy, especially those aspects dealing with global finance, often appear to be intimidating in their complexity. Susan Strange decodes processes of finance and monetary policy and puts them in terms that just about anyone can understand. There is, in fact, nothing that complex about these processes at all. The metaphor of "casino capitalism" still holds...and they are playing with your money. One would do well to read this in combination with a book by George Soros. Comprehensive, but readable. A great book.

From korean reader
Please me know if this book will be tranlsated into Korean, in a few year

Message from France
I would like to know if that book is going to be translate in french. Thank you.
