Columbia River Basketry: Gift of the Ancestors, Gift of the Earth

Ms. Schlick is the uncontested expert on native American basketry of the Columbia Plateau (eastern Washington and Oregon) and she knows and has the admiration of many--perhaps all--of the current weavers. Her book finally puts a face and name on the creators of the baskets and sees them as individual artists. I can't believe this book has been allowed to go out of print--get it while you can.

Great book if you're wondering where to start
Helpful Votes: 4 out of 4 total.
Review Date: 2004-04-26
If you have written something funny and you're wondering, "How in the world would I go about publishing this?", this is the perfect book for you. Or, if you haven't yet written anything funny, want to try your hand at it, and don't know where to start, this is the book for you.

This book gives detailed suggestions on how to break into any number of comedy markets, including stand-up, television, film, radio, books, theater, newspapers, magazines, and even greeting cards and corporate speech-writing. The author is himself an accomplished comedian. And, though the book is serious about getting you started, it does make you laugh from time to time.

To supplement his own advice, the author includes numerous quotes, suggestions, and anecdotes from other famous comedians and comedy professionals, such as the vice-president of development at Comedy Central, and writers for shows such as Saturday Night Live, the Jon Stewart Show, Cheers, Frasier, Married with Children, and many more. And finally, the author includes no shortage of further reading suggestions including books, periodicals, and directories of contact names.

If I could give this book twice as many stars I would.

This might not be the only quilt book you will ever need but everyone should have a book like this. It captures the heart and soul of the quilter and allows the warmth, compassion, and generosity to really shine.

This book is quilters heaven. Quilts are all about love, comfort, and warmth and the projects in this book help remind us of that. It will warm your soul, comfort your heart, and bring you hope.

I love this book, simple, sweet, and just wonderful. Fidget quilts for dementia and vision loss, wheelchair quilts with foot warmers, game quilts, bed shawls, walker bags, pillowcases, NICU quilts, tips to make labels extra special... Provide care for those who need extra comfort and treasure the results.

Great resource, fast and easy projects. Excellent tool for those teaching and encouraging kids to learn how to quilt as well as fostering community spirit.

Bravo!

The best book I have read dealing with body image

I just want to say that this is one of the best books that I have read dealing with body image. This has been something that I have dealt with for many years like I am sure most women do. This is a life changing book if you take it serious. I suggest you answer all the questions in a journal. I think that it is a book that all women should read. Each of us deal with this issue in one way or another. It would take pages for me to say how it has changed my view of myself. It really teaches you how God looks at you. It is an amazing eye opener to read this book. I highly recommend this book. Absolutely the best.............Lori Smith

Coming to Public Judgment is the best explanation I have found of how the public engages an issue and comes to a conclusion. I have seen this process work well in my own city, and I wish every journalist covering government, school and social services beats would be required to read this book and organize his or her coverage this way.

At last - clear, concise and practical advice on the thorny issue of defining the purpose, vision and supporting values of an organisation. The Committed Enterprise is a thoughtful, thoroughly researched and well-presented book, which captures the experience of 125 organisations in private and public sectors. It is a practical necessity for those companies who would like to do `better' as well as for the consultants advising them.

John Lyons takes you step by step and this training method really works! We have a green broke horse and she has responded wonderfully! My husband works with her everyday for short periods and she is learning! He really helps you to understand just how different humans think than horses.

A Wine Country Must
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 3 total.
Review Date: 2008-06-30
We just spent a week in Napa Valley and this book did not leave our car the entire trip. This book covers the major areas of Napa (St. Helena, Calistoga, etc), Sonoma, other popular wine regions in Cali, though a majority is dedicated to Napa. It essentially includes the highlights and must sees as well as some "off-the-beaten-path" wineries. It's also evident the writer visited each and every winery mentioned there is a spot on description (full paragraph) of the wineries which includes details about the atmosphere, a brief history, what to expect at tastings, etc. It's also loaded tips and suggestions for wine country - biking trails, scenic drives, tasting room etiquette, etc.

This is definately recommended for first timers.

Terrific Guide for Visiting or Wine Shopping!
Helpful Votes: 14 out of 15 total.
Review Date: 2005-06-02
I used this beautiful and informative book to plan a fabulous Yamhill County, Oregeon wine tasting day with friends. The book had wonderful, accurate information about an incredible number of Oregon wineries. I am pretty fussy about wine and go tasting frequently in California. The authors of this book gave great recommendations and the wineries we picked based upon their endorsements were all top-notch. No disappointments! We left the book with our friends in Oregon, but I am buying another copy to keep at home to use for navigating the Oregon section of our local wine stores. One caveat: the authors find something nice to say about every winery they review, and they cover a lot of them. So, if you are looking for a great pinot, and the review for a particular winery focuses on the lovely garden, you may want to visit elsewhere!
