This is the BEST book for mothers who want to work at home!
I looked at them all, but no book addressed the issues of a mother working from home as well as Moneymaking Moms. I recently left a fulltime job to be home with my 2 children Ryan and Sydney, although we struggle somewhat financially I know we made the right decision. Moneymaking Moms helped me conclude that by taking their quiz "How much does your job cost?" It was a real eyeopener. The step by step manner and the realistic approach to handling a business and family is very helpful and the warm manner in which the authors approach the reader is much appreciated. This book is the "What to Expect if You're Expecting" book for owning a home business. You wouldn't want to be caught without it. Thank you Caroline Hull and Tanya Wallace, you will undoubtedly turn many moms into Moneymaking Moms.

Indispensable, practical, down-to-earth reference book
I like Moneymaking Moms because it took me step by step through what I found an intimidating process - deciding what to do, how to do it, etc. It also spoke to me as a "mom" - I'm working from home because I want to spend more time with my kids rather than less, and this is one of the few books I've found that actually talks about working from home in those terms. I also found the Marketing section invaluable. This is one area I have no experience in at all and I felt like the authors held my hand and walked me through the basics. I think this is an excellent book for moms who want to spend more time with their kids, but need an income in order to do that.

A great resource for stay-at-home moms who need an income
I found this book incredibly helpful because it simplifies the process of going into business into logical steps that are easy to follow. I bought the book because I wanted to find a way to be home with my children, and I really appreciate the emphasis on combining mothering and business roles. I especially liked the way the authors incorporated real-life "moneymaking moms" and their individual experiences into the book because those personal stories helped to inspire and motivate me! Any mom who wants to make money at home will benefit from this practical book, and find another mom in its pages she can relate to.

Origin of the Family, Private Property, and the State

they were wrong but you have to know why
Marx and Engels made a fundamentally wrong guess about the nature of human beings. But it is very important to understand their line of reasoning, because they developed quite a few critical insights along the way. Due to political charge associated with their teachings it is practically impossible to find suitable third party narrative of their works. So, the only way to enlighten yourself is to dig right down into originals.

Why doesn't the war of the sexes ever end?
Why is society so cruel? It seems to be self-defeating. Why doesn't the war of the sexes ever end? In no other species do the two sexes battle against each other.

In this book we learn that things weren't always this way. In fact, oppression and exploitation are recent inventions, if we count that human history dates back EIGHTY thousand years since the rise of homo sapiens sapiens. At one point most cultures suddenly became sedentary and agriculturalist - and private property in the land emerged. Private property of land resulted in an overthrow of the matriarchal family by its male members and in the establishment of a separate group of men who violently protect unequal relationships (the state as we know it today). All happened together in a revolution that occurred in the course of just a few generations some SIX thousand years ago.

Nonetheless, the moral of this story is one of hope. If we were capable of remaking ourselves once, and based on that have advanced dramatically in a limited sense of creating material culture, then humankind can remake itself again and found a culture that enriches all aspects of everyone's lives. But this time the redesign will have to be conscious and conscientious, the beginning of a humane human history in which all participate on an equal basis. Such is the future that socialism and communism promise for us.

As a companion to this volume, be sure to read Women's Evolution, by Reed. Written a century later, it shows that anthropology's evidence overwhelmingly coincides with the theory Engels put forward in this book.

Relevant Today
Was human society always overseen by a military and police force?
Was wealth and the means of producing more wealth always the private possession of individuals or a small section of society?
Were women always at the bottom of society, treated primarily as sex objects and machines for child-bearing and child-raising?

And is this humanity's destiny?
In this book published in 1884, Fredrich Engels answers the above questions in the negative. His book is based on anthropological data available in his day from societies around the globe. New discoveries since have confirmed his conclusions and the book is remarkably relevant today.

Reinventing Ourselves After Motherhood: How Former Career Women Refocus Their Personal and Professional

Best book I've read on motherhood yet
How I wish I could give this book ten stars! If you're tired of hearing about the Mommy Wars and want to read about women who've somehow managed to balance work and motherhood, this is the book for you. Susan Lewis clearly is coming from the assumption that we all love our kids, and we all have unique gifts to present to the world, but unfortunately the reality is that we live in a culture that doesn't have a lot of respect for parenthood--or for women's choices, for that matter. You know how it goes--if you stay home with the kids, you're an underachiever; if you have a full time job, you're self-centered, if you work part-time so that you can be there for your kids, well you have to be screwing up both jobs then, right? :) Lewis interviewed ten women like herself, all of whom gave up full-time high-powered careers to spend time with their children. Some downshifted to part time, some switched to a less demanding career, some just gave up a career altogether. What these women have to say about the decisions they made really surprised me and inspired me, and often made me laugh. Lewis herself cracked me up with her descriptions of being available for monosyllabic teenage boys, or being humbled by her utter failure at baking a batch of brownies from a mix.
I also think this would be a great book for any young woman who wants to "have it all" to read. It really does give a realistic picture of both worlds, work and home, and helps you think think creatively, and sensibly (love how Lewis, before she got pregnant, thought that the first year of her baby's life would be a great time to sail around the world!). Yes, combining motherhood and career can be done, but as these women show, you've got to be creative, you've got to be true to your instincts, and you shouldn't give a hoot about whether you've got a glamorous enough self-description to impress people at cocktail parties!

If you're a new mom and an old "professional", read this!
If you are struggling with how to manage your career AND love your baby AND nurture your family, read this book! It's like talking to a best friend who understands who you were before you had a baby and what you feel now. I am still struggling with "what to do next"...this book empowered me to do what's best for me (not based on anyone else's "should do's").

Ms. Lewis has a great writing style...easy to read with thoughtful stories. I stay up late at night (or get up before the baby wakes up) just to get another chapter read.

An excellent book for mothers struggling to "do it all".
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Lewis tells us how women have coped with the biggest life altering experience of all...motherhood. I wish it was available when my first child was born. I felt so alone juggling to combine motherhood with a career. The anecdotes in the book are so funny because they are real. It feels like a chat with your closest friends telling you what was the "last straw" incident that forced them to make changes. What is most interesting about the book is the variety of solutions that women came up with. There are no right or wrong answers because every family is unique. Having the insight on what changes others have made will get you thinking creatively.

Outstanding Resource
This workbook is an outstanding resource for anyone thinking of starting a Home Day Care! It would also be a valuable book to have if you are already doing Home Day Care. The book asks dozens of questions you may not have even thought of needing to be answered. It contains sample forms, contracts and schedules. It will answer so many questions and help you avoid so many pitfalls that I can't imagine starting or running a Home Day Care without this workbook. I highly recommend it! Cyndi knows of what she speaks and it shows.

The Daycare Provider's workbook
This book is absolutely excellent!
I think if you were to choose a reference to start your business, this is the one to choose. It has every aspect of childcare that you could hope to have to start your business.
Take a look at the info you get in this book for yourself. I don't think you will regret it.

A must have for new Daycare Providers!!
I sat down and read this book from cover to cover.

The author really walks you step by step through the process of setting up and running a home daycare.

I couldn't believe the numerous forms, checklists and worksheets contained within the book. Due to their full size of 8.5 x 11, I quickly edited and copied them for use in my own business.

Anyone thinking of starting a home daycare should own this book!

it just makes sense
As my husband and I read through the book, we realized it made a lot of sense to gather experiences from others. These people have made a work at home career workable. Paul and Sarah show us how to think on our feet, keep things in order, be flexible and get the kids involved too. We really appreciate all of the recommendations throughout the book. These are a huge source of unbelievable resources right at the finger tips. We are very anxious to go to the recommended websties, and of course, read the books. The three books that we have already purchased and are extremely pleased with are Getting Publicity, by Tana Fletcher, How to Raise a Family and a Career Under One Roof, by Lisa Roberts and Mommy-CEO, (Constantly Evaluating Others)5 Golden Rules, Revised Edition, by Jodie Lynn. So far, these three books have helped to pinpoint daily stress factors involving a business and last but certianly not least, kids in the home. There are many others listed which we are sure will be extremely useful in the big picture of things to come. In our experience, we have learned it doesn't matter how successful we'd like to be, but instead, getting the right answers for the right challenge and then making it workable for the family. As the authors say, if there are kids around, get them involved in either the business or other activities so work can be completed. This is a true statement especially if children are underfoot for the biggest part of the day. For the best use of our time on a daily basis, we know it's mandatory that parenting skills are sharp and respect is working on both ends of the spectrum. This book has almost every answer to every question entreprneurs wonder about. If there is any stone left unturned, it can surely be found in one of the many other recommended books or websites. Totally cool and it just makes sense.

Thinking of starting a business? Then buy this book!
I had bought Paul and Sarah Edwards book "How To Make Money in Cyberspace" several years ago when I first had the concept of my business... and I owe it all to Paul and Sarah for passing along their knowledge to make this business the success that it is. I only wish that "The Entrepreneurial Parent" had been published at that time as well. I would have saved myslef a lot of time and mistakes along the way as far as running a business from home with a small child. This book is cram packed full of advice, resources, techniques and real life examples. I can attest to all the book has to offer having gone through the process myself. Thank you Paul and Sarah for publishing such a valuable resource. I highly reccommend buying this book along with their other book "How To Make Money in Cyberspace" if you are thinking of starting an on-line business.

WOWWIE! Paul and Sarah, you've got a hit here!
Simply said, if you are a working parent, you've got to get this book! This book is BRILLIANTLY written - what a joy to read! Aside from the how to basics, you can tell that Paul and Sarah have really done their homework -- it's loaded with facts. This book features profiles of 111 entrepreneurs who spill the beans of what it's like in their careers, including a job description, their industry insight, marketing tips, and top revenue streams. Paul and Sarah paint a real picture of what it's like to work from home. They show that entrepreneurs defined success in terms of quality of life, rather than dollars earned. For many, it's a trade off that is well worth it for more time with the kids and a richer life. They offer extensive coverage of insurance options for the self-employed. Other topics include childcare options, how to handle summer vacations, and involving the family in your business.

A book to give yourself a kick in the pants!
This has been a wonderful book for me. Kevin McKinley's writing and advice have given me the tools and the motivation to start my son's education fund, write a will, review my life insurance, and so much more. Everything is laid out in plain and concise language which makes it very easy to follow and implement his suggestions. Plus, he explains why it's so important to do these things and how to start NOW! Thanks to Mr. McKinley for writing the perfect financial planning book for busy parents.

McKinley Does a Great Job...
This was a great read. Like Kevin, I am a practicing Certified Financial Planner. In 15 plus years of practice, I have read tons of book and articles on amassing wealth, etc. Most are a lot of fluff and "the same old thing." It is not the public schools responsibility to teach our children about money. As loving parents, it is ours! Tomorrow is my oldest daughters 14th birthday and she is opening her Roth IRA. Kevin builds a strong case for using money as a tool to give our children much more flexibility as they face life's challenging decisions. Imagine how different your life could have been without having to pay back student loans and/or knowing that your retirement years were well on their way of being secured when you were only in your early 20s. Kevin, thanks for a job well-done!

The Best Bet for Parents!
I received this book as a late Christmas present and think it should be a mandatory read for all parents, of children young and old. I'm still unclear as to what my own parents were thinking when we were growing up regarding our financial future. I know now they didn't create college funds or wedding funds or life insurance plans for us. This book shows how parents -- no matter the income level, resources, desires for the kids' futures -- can invest and save for the next generations. I like the way the author writes - it's witty and clever without being silly and trite. And the suggestions are crafted in a way that makes follow-up easy and manageable, even for a novice like myself. I highly recommend!

Must read if you don't have MORE THAN ENOUGH
Dave's teaching is practical and common sense. If you follow his plan you will have peace and prosparity. His simple teaching may be scoffed at because it seems common sense, however most people don't follow this and they suffer. I hope you'll read it for your benefit. If you want to have more than enough in your financies and in your life, then read this book.

Must-read for anyone, great perspective on money and more
In this book Dave really drives it home - it's all about values, integrity, honesty and money is just an indicator of those. It taught me a lot on how it really works and it does, you can have more than enough! Go get it!

Dave Ramsey hits a homerun "It truly is about Integrity"
This book should help just about everybody. Dave's open and honest text helps the reader look deep inside himself to look not only for finanial peace but peace in knowing that the reader can sleep at night with all the other parts of his life no matter who he or she is or how finacially secure he or she might beRamsey has worked hard at his own success and makes no bones about sharing a life that is more about integrity and doing the right thing than the typical finacial strategy books on the market. His tips are solid as a rock and should not be ignored. Especially in todays enviroment where words like integrity, honesty and courage seem to be set aside for excuses and lies. The book takes Dave's first book and drives home the behavioral changes that need to take place to be successful in all aspects of life. Great Job Dave and thank you.

On Your Own: A Widow's Passage to Emotional & Financial Well-Being

Widow's Advisor
As a financial planner specializing in Wealth Preservation Planning, one aspect of my practice is providing life insurance, when appropriate. As a result, part of my job involves the delivery of death claim checks to widows. Unfortunately, many of them have never had the opportunity to deal with family finances or budgeting - but are suddenly thrown into a situation where they must assume that responsibility. It comes at a time of great instability and disruption.

"On Your Own" by Alexandra Armstrong and Mary R. Donahue deals sensitively with both the emotional and financial issues of widowhood, and provides guidance for both - with compassion and authoritative wisdom. It provides comfort and knowledge in a clever structure which allows the reader to review applications of each chapter's information in one of several optional formats, based upon her individual set of circumstances (young with children, elderly, etc.)

I am so impressed with the book that I give it to each of the beneficiaries to whom I deliver a death claim check. The thank you notes I have received have provided a wonderful reward for sharing this valuable information.

A widow's best guide
I purchased this book five years ago from Ms. Armstrong at a NAIC Congress in Florida. At the time I purchased it as a reference for my investment club's library. With 21 women in the M & D Investment Club I figured someone would need it sometime. I have skimmed it occasionally through the years but when I recently become widowed it was the first book I brought out. Ms. Armstrong has literally saved me much time and grief in trying to figure out what to do next. There is no time of greater confusion and despair than at the sudden and unexpected loss of a beloved spouse. When I can read this book gives me something to do or think about. The suggestions for organization are excellent and will allow me to make informed descisions instead of emotional decisions. While I did not expect to be the recipient of her wisdom I am grateful for it. I highly recommend it for all women, married, single, divorced or involved in any relationship that has financial involvement. We can't afford to not know how to best proceed with our financial future.

Share this book with the people you care most about
For all who have ever asked "What do I do now?" or "Who can help me with...?" I recommend "On Your Own". Like earlier editions, this is a sensitive and insightful resource for those who have recently experienced (or are preparing to experience) the loss of a spouse. In a highly readable and usable style the authors lead the reader through important topics often thought to be too intimidating or too confusing for someone wrought with fear and sadness.

This book's a good read and a terrific resource.
I found this book to be very well organized; a plus for a book with this title. There are many good ideas; I especially like the personal notes shared by parents. I plan to hold on to this book as a resource, too, for when I move, if I have more children, and if I ever travel with little ones again.

A parenting bible.
I should have read this book sooner!!!! From A to Z this book will help you budget your time better and be more efficient. Thus giving you more time for your family and yourself. The suggestions and tips are very helpful.

A great reference book to keep on the shelf to pick up again and again.

My Review
This was a great book! As a busy mom with three kids, I need all of the organizational tips I can get! I think the kitchen tips and meal preparation tips were the most helpful!

Nothing to Fear
Nothing to Fear is an amzing book about a boy named Danny who's growing up in the Great Depression. After his firend's family gets evicted there is more trouble. His dad has to go look for work. He promises to be home by Christmas. The hard times are just beginning though. With suicides going on every day and his mother getting sick after having a baby you have to wonder is there really nothing to fear? This is a story you'll never want to put down and read over and over again.

A Great Book, This Review By Luke Perkins
Nothing to fear, a great book, emphasizes courage during hard times. The setting is New York City. During the Great Depression. The subject is a 13 year old boy named Danny, whose dad goes away to find work, promising to be home by Christmas. While his father is gone Danny has to take care of his sickly mother and his 2 year old sister.
Not only does he have to take care of them, but he has to go to school, work at a store to pay back for a broken window, and shines peoples shoes to make a couple of extra cents (his mother uses have of it for life insurance, much to his disliking.)He often eats very little; somtimes not at all.
One of his friends gets evicted, and ends up living in a box at Central Park. His best friend Mickey adds some comedy to this book.
During this hard time with people even committing suicide all around him, Danny tries his best to be brave.
While Danny's father is away searching for a job, his mother gets sick right after she has another baby. Then she goes into a coma. This is one of the hardest times for Danny. He almost runs away but a friend stops him and persuades hi to stay. Then a guy named Hank comes and helps take care of the family.
Does his father return? Does his mother recover? Read this book and find out.
Overall this a great book. It would be nice if it had more action. But then again not all good books are like the Lord of the Rings. I would highly recomend this book for all ages.

Jackie Kroller writes a masterpeice
The story is about an Irish faimily growing up in the depression. It is so gripping that I promise that you would not put it down if you read it. The story has a sadness that you feel, and a houmor that makes you laugh out loud to yourself. Kroller makes you want to live with the charachters, you almost want to talk to them. It is a bittersweet story that you will never forget.
