Just confirmed as the seventh Comptroller General of the United States, Walker ads to his impressive list of credentials. This is not another "Financial Planning for DUMMIES",it offers a more comprehensive treatment of the subject matter.

helps you make informed nutritional decisions
This pocket-sized book contains up-to-date nutrition and safety tips from the experts. Though it may be small enough to tote around in a purse while shopping, I would think it'd work better as a reference tool while you are making your shopping list. "The Supermarket Guide" helps you make informed nutritional decisions about the food you buy.

Shortest way to get to understand the Reichmann Empire
This is the best book you want to get if you easily get discouraged by 500+ pages books. It is almost identical to Biacco's book (from page 256 on) but with much less details about Real Estate deals, that somebody not really interessted in Real Estate will appreciate.

Great book!
I lived in Tucson Az but moved back east. This book definetly reminded me a lot of stuff that I miss so much out west. I recommend it for anyone that is home-sick (like me) or just want to know more about the specifics in Tucson. It has a lot of great pictures and a whole bunch of information about the ecology.

Great book. Gets you where you need to be gotten.
Covers business operations in a family owned business and also some estate planning. Among other things, it talks about how much to let your kids have and how soon. Encourages you to make them develop themselves as people and to earn their keep. Even if you do not have a large business, it has a lot of good information.

Very helpful.
This skinny book has a lot to offer for those of us who have survived the clutter accumulating years of the 1980's. Good practical advice presented in a to-the-point manner. Worth the purchase.

Urban Poor Perceptions of Violence and Exclusion in Colombia
Published in Paperback by World Bank (July, 2000)
Authors: Caroline O. N. Moser and Cathy McIlwaine
Amazon base price: $22.00
Average review score:

Incorporates the rarely heard voices of the poor
"Urban Poor Perceptions of Violence and Exclusion in Colombia," is a valuable book that incorporates the rarely heard voices of the underclass. Authors Caroline Moser and Cathy McIlwaine do an excellent job of identifying the categories of violence affecting poor communities, the costs of different types of violence, the effect of violence on social capital, and the causes and effects of social exclusion in Colombia.

Violence-related problems emerge as the single most important type of problem facing the poor. Moser and McIlwaine break down the types of violence. They report that 54% of violence is economic, 32% is social and 14% is political. They also conclude that violence is Colombia's key development constraint. Ultimately the authors share the community perceptions of solutions to violence in Colombia.

However, one of the most important features of this "World Bank" study is the enormous amount of statistical data that quantifies the violence in Colombia. Moreover, the text does not fail to examine the characteristics and impact of drug consumption. The overall evaluation of drug - related problems is comprehensive. And finally the text documents the prevalence and importance of gangs, militias, and other violent organizations that are important indicators of the high level of distrust of state security and justice systems in Colombia.

This outstanding "Conflict Prevention and Post-Conflict Reconstruction," text reports the extensive nature of violence in Colombia and offers sound public policy recommendations. Recommended.

The Beckoning Country Is Revealed
As a result of hard schlorship on the part of Smith and Nelson we have a unvarnished and well researched story of what goes on behind the Norman Rockwell postcard towns here in Vermont. It is a bitter lesson that we had all better head and it is one that regional differences is repeated throughout Rural America. With the hindsight of Seattle eariler this month Smith and Nelson might have written an even more forcful tomb. However this is one book that I highly reccomend to every public policy person and citizen when considering development and what it's true costs are. Read it and weep.

Working Women in America: Split Dreams

Women and Work
The book focuses on the problems that face women everyday in the workplace. Whether one is actually referring to the labor force as the workplace, or the home as the workplace is a huge part of this book. Our society accepts that women should automatically take on the responsibilities of child care and housekeeping in addition to a regular job (if they wish to even have a job on top of all these tasks). It's not easy for women, and Hesse-Biber uses several examples and hard data to back up this book.

Not only is the "average, white American supermom" discusses, but also the differences in race, class, and other factors that can influence women's place in the "working world."

The book is very useful and Hesse-Biber always takes a strong feminist perspective. One fault would probably be that she doesn't show both sides as best she could, but overall, the book is an enjoyable one.

A good, general textbook for jr. high consumer science
This is a good textbook for a junior high consumer science class. It is very general, though, and does not go in depth about the subjects it covers. I teach in an inner city school. Sometimes I find it too immature for some of my students.
