With the search among investors for higher yield and with the asset class being one of the notable outperformers in the recent equity market upturn, Santiso's book on emerging markets (notably Latam) could not have arrived at a more opportune time. Generally speaking, it overviews the most significant empirical findings associated with emerging markets over the past two to three years, locating them within the context of a number of distinct themes. So if one is looking for a comprehensive treatment of the asset class, notably from an academic's perspective, this book is well worth the read. The editor's synopsis is accurate in terms of its overview of the main contents of the book.
The only problem I had with the piece is the editing job. There are a few spelling mistakes, misplaced uses of punctuation, and the odd sentence that must be read several times in order to realise its main import. I suspect if a proper editing job was undertaken in the main text (the footnotes are superb and very informative)the quality of the book would be enhanced significantly.
The book is probably of less use to practitioners but this was probably not Santiso's intent. In any case, thoughtful fund managers or equity strategists would clearly find the book informative, probably compelling them to conduct further readings in the literature noted in the footnotes.

Read this book to gain a deeper understanding of the Asian crisis. Much has been written on the economic side, but "The Politics of the Asian Economic Crisis" assembles the experts to explain political differentiation among the countries affected.

We have sent all our customers in the financial services industry a copy of this book for Christmas. Instructive yet fun to read if you are interested in money, finance, economics or if you are a speculator, investor, fund manager or stock broker. Don't miss.

This book should be a part of every financial professional's collection in the industry. Simple ideas that really work. It gives you direction and strategies to follow.It is one of those books that has to become part of your library.

I find it very interesting, but then again, I'm the editor!

This book offers great insights into the practicalities of financial mangement, and gives an excellent and detailed description of day-to-day FM. I am new to finance, and I found this book an invaluable guide - highly recommended both for those who need a book to assist them in their job, and for those who would simply like to learn what FM is about. The book is generally written very clearly and is easy to read even for a beginner, but at the same time it presents a number of advanced ideas...

Bernard Manson's text is excellent. He writes clearly and really delivers on the practitioner's guide as well as on the theory. A professionals bookshelf should have copies of Hull and Manson to show that they are serious. I would welcome a second edition if at all possible.

The book by Price Waterhouse I found to be readable and well thought out. The organization of the book is clear and makes it easy to focus on the topics you need most.

I was particularly pleased with Chapter 8 on Retirement Planning. This material will permit one to put together a totally confidential personal retirement plan and by following their worksheets and factors truly have an idea of where you are compared to where you want or need to be in terms of pre-retirment savings. I have accessed numerous books from the local library, tried various software packages and was impressed with the clear thinking and effective way they permitted me to use my numbers and walked me through the factors needed to adjust for inflation and the reality of where I am and where I want to be.

I highly recommed this book to anyone who wants to have a second opinion to compare to software or the advise of a professional ... whether they want a flat fee or a percentage of your transaction.

This book is an excellent book on personal finance that gives very down to earth information to help the every day joe stretch his dollars further. Every young person should read this book or one like it.
