It all started as a financial-help segment on the Today show. Which prompted 54,000 letters. Which then resulted in Ginger Applegarth's The Money Diet. Applegarth, who has practiced financial planning for more than 20 years and leads a prominent Boston-based financial and investment firm, believes that the "processes of financial planning and dieting are almost identical." Both require an honest assessment of the present, a realistic goal for what you want to become, and a plan for getting there. At the heart of Applegarth's program for financial wellness are her "Willpower Worksheets," tools designed to help determine your net worth, monitor your spending habits, set financial goals, determine your insurance needs, select investment plans, and buy a house. The Money Diet is an upbeat and well-rounded guide to managing money that should benefit almost all people, especially those trying to get their money habits under control.

Everyone should read this book!A very easy to understand book that helps you create a financial plan for yourself. Easy to understand and written for the everyday Joe. Nothing complicated about it at all. If you're just starting out with your first job or are closing in on retirement, this book is for you. The author does a great job of explaining the pros and cons of the different types of investment vehicles. Lots of eye opening charts to show the power of compounding money. It basically helps you figure out how much you need to survive on at any age and what you need to do to achieve that goal.
This book should be required reading in every high school.

Things your parents never told you"Should be required reading for every high school student" said a national newspaper publication. This is a thorough look at financial basics for high school and college students. Discusses budgets, NSF, credit cards, insurance, credit reports, and loans; things you need to survive in the real world after you leave home and/or college. Poor planning before you are 20 can land you in bankruptcy court before you are 30. Want to buy a car? Get a mortgage? Retire some day? Start planning now! A great high school graduation gift.

Retirement planning made readableIn a user-friendly and down-to-earth manner, R.D. Bly flawlessly purveys the ingenuity necessary to master compound interest. Considering the shaky ground on which social security currently kneels, understanding the difference between an IRA and a 401k is the 411 we need to keep our heads above water, and Money While You Sleep is a smart, effective start. To read this book by the age of 20 is to be 40 steps ahead of the game. Every year you lose a little ground. What are you waiting for?!

A classic in monetary economics;prohibitively expensiveIt is unfortunate that a book of such wide applicability and interest to anyone doing research in the fields of macroeconomics and the history of economic thought is so high-priced. As D.P. O'Brien said in The Economic Journal, "Virtually no essay in the collection is without interest and it should be on the bookshelves of everybody interested in monetary economics." How about a paperback version?
