I liked the strategies he offered to become my own investment manager, to plan for a financially secure retirement, to invest online and to protect my capital.

The book is an interesting compilation of essays on financial innovation and the convergence of markets. It takes the reader through diverse structures and strategies to take advantage of capital and insurance markets, and shows the benefits of globalization and disintermediation. I found it very useful for practitioners in finance and risk management and for academics.

~~~~~You are wrong if you think that this is a pure accounting or finance book. I am taking Profoessor Ryan's class of "Finanial Instruments and Financial Institutions" in NYU right now. The stength of Professor Ryan in the book is his in-depth understanding and effective description of economics, finance and accounting issues. So many case studies covered in the book blend with macroeconomic events, financial implication and accounting disclosures. Therefore, you need some background~~ knowledge of accounting and finance to fully take advantage of his insights in the book. This book discusses the yield curve, interest risk, credit and market risks, and fair value accounting for financial instruments. It analyzes the finacial and accounting issues for thrifts, mortgage bank, securitizations, commercial banks, derivatives and hedging, lessors and lease accountings. After reading through the book, you will have clear pictures about each finnancial instruments and institutions.~~ You won't be afraid of these topics any more. This book can be used as an advanced textbook for finance or accouting majors in business school, or a reference book if you are interested in financial and accounting issues of the above topics.~

G.A. Manning does an excellent job of taking complex subjects, like law and accounting, and makes them interesting and easy to read. The book is a superb reference to the beginner by way of providing a broad overview of the many facets that forensic examiners are exposed to. The book is also a superb reference to the advanced reader as it reiterates in detail many of the audit program, internal control and evidentiary procedures. As a Certified Management Accountant in pursuit of the Certified Forensic Accounting designation, I enjoyed the book greatly.

I picked this book up to help me better understand Cleverly's book, "Essentials of Health Care Finance". After weeks of re-reading Cleverly's book I read several chapters in this book and now it all makes sense! Well-written, clear, simple, with real life examples. The author does not assume you have taken several accounting courses. Instead of just reading this book for a course, I am now really interested in the subject.

This book not only deals with inpatient managed care concepts, but also with the ambulatory issues as well, which turn out to be quite different than those in the acute care world.

I think that is good book. I need that book for my disertation. I am interested to buy that book, because I hope that it would help me. Best regards Sonja

This text proved an invaluable guide to the subject of hospital finances. This was a subject I was not particularly interested in, and the book surprised me. It is readable and clear. The logic flows smoothly. There are plenty of examples, illustrating assorted principles. After reading several books on the topic of hospital finances, this one stands out for its clarity.
