This is a wonderfully-written book from the perspective of the author's personal experience: a widow with four children who are mostly grown-up. There is no sugar-coating, and I value this honest approach. It helps me to determine where I want to be on the simple-living spectrum. It also gives me a whole new insight on living, in general.

She describes her own experiences, moving from Toronto (selling and giving away most of her possessions) to a small home on a lake in the Muskokas. From that foundation, she treats every aspect of living very thoroughly and honestly. From being honest with yourself about your own budgeting and expenses and tastes (which may include luxuries; for her, it is books) to how much education for your children could cost, and everywhere in between. The humour deftly woven into each subject serves as a reminder to underscore what she is saying. There are references to other sources for additional information, too.

I think this is an excellent book for anyone who wonders where all their money goes, why they feel drawn to a simpler life, and whether they could do it. It also helped me examine my conscience and understand financial life better from a woman's point of view, something that I'd never been able to grasp before. There are many social injustices, especially insidious in Canada where the masses proclaim what a wonderful and fair country in which to live.

There are a lot of retirement books out there, so I went with the one with a recognizable name and I'm glad I did. My parents haven't thought enough about retirement and I wanted to spur them to action. They were pleased to find out that there were many things they could do now, even at this late date, to help them, and they even starting giving me tips on ways I could start planning. So then I gave this book to my husband's parents who are already retired, and they ended up buying it for friends too. There are tons of tips, easy things you can do, worksheets, charts, action lists, tips--even a section on how to overcome adverse events like losing your job and divorce. It is worth the read. You'll learn a lot and be happy you did.

This book starts off with the basics but then goes into the details of each subject. It goes well beyond the other books which usually say to do or not do something but does not go into the details of why. I hightly recommended this book.

Edward Fields' Essentials Of Finance And Accounting For Nonfinancial Managers tells how to understand the basics of a balance sheet, income statement, cash flow statement and annual reports. Newcomers to reading company financials will appreciate the clear explanations on investment returns, analysis ratios, and other methods of understanding business reports.

The Essentials of Stochastic Finance: Facts, Models, Theory by Albert N. Shiriaev, et al offers a clear treatment of both theoretical and emperical Finance. Shiryaev presents not only the essentials of probability as it is applied to finance,but he also covers recent develpoments in Mathematical Finance. It is very well written and it can be covered in one year (depending on the audience). Each topic moves from the specific to the general, beginning with one or more examples to lead into the theoretical results. This is the most comprehensive book out there. It covers Mathematical Finance, Martingale, Markov Thoery... to Econometric ARCH GARCH FGARCH ...to theory of Finance CAPM APT... PART II of the book requires a good knowledge of Stochastic Calculus at Karatzas and Shreve level...

I THOUGHT THIS BOOK GAVE A EXCELLENT OVERVIEW OF WHAT TO LOOK AT IN ESTATE PLANNING VIA TN LAWS. WHEN DEALING WITH PLANNING IT IS GOOD DO KNOW THE BASICS BEFORE DIGGING IN WITH THE ATTORNEY AND FINANCIAL ADVISORS. IT REALLY SHED SOME LIGHT ON THE TOPIC.

This book is written in clear language and provides straight forward, easy to understand advice. If you're interested in charting your financial future, this book is well worth reading!

The chapters by entrepreneurs and venture capitalists provide incredible insight, while the term sheet and other documents are incredibly useful, and will help you get the right deal on valuation. Having been in venture capital related fields for over 10 years, this is the best resource I have found - I recommend this to everyone I know that is raising venture capital or interested in the true workings of venture capital.

This book is simultaneously concise and illuminating. The approach of standardizing financial statement analysis through software is very powerful, and the authors back up their approach with convincing research. I would recommend this book for use by any MBA financial statement analysis class, and it is very useful for practioners as well.

Be careful with the software, though. There are quite a few mistakes in the data sources, so that often assets don't add up to liabilities + equity. Also, there are a number of bugs in the underlying software, so that the calculations should always be double checked.

the best thing for this software is that its really easy to use. I can import data from a lot of sources such as marketguide or global access and instantly, within one minute or so, get all the data and have eval done all the analysis for me. Before using eval, I often have to do all the analysis by myself, which can take for hours and even days to finish. Just 30 something bucks, and it can save me hundreds of hours. I sincerely recommend this to everyone.
