Profiling nearly 300 colleges, private and public, across the United States, Barron's Best Buys in College Education is an exceptionally practical and useful book. There's a plethora of colleges in this country, and there's a world of difference between $30,000 and $9,000 a year, so if you can find the quality of college you're looking for among the bargains, with the focus, size, and atmosphere you want, why put your family in debt for decades? As the author points out, it's not true that there is one and only one college right for you; nor is it true that quality always comes with a matching price tag--among colleges and universities, anyway.

Barron's has "Quick Lists" to help you target what you're looking for, organizing the schools by colleges with 20,000 or more full-time undergraduates, those with 1,000 or fewer undergraduates, colleges with predominantly single-sex enrollments, colleges with chapters of the Phi Beta Kappa, and those 53 schools whose tuition and fees are less than $9,000 each. Then come the in-depth profiles, organized alphabetically by state, starting with Birmingham-Southern College in Alabama, and working its way through to the University of Wyoming. For each, the guide tells about the setting (city, small town, etc.) and whether it's private or public; what the student/faculty ratio is and how many undergraduate men and women there are; plus the freshman SAT profile; how many faculty members have Ph.D.s; and deadlines for applications and financial aid. It describes the feel of the campus and the sorts of people who make up the student body, what campus life is like, and what facilities and special programs they have. And then comes the bottom line, with a section indicating how many students get financial aid, and just what that aid might look like, plus a profile of percentages graduating in various fields, how many go on to graduate school, how many land jobs immediately, and in what sorts of firms. This book encourages the best sort of smart shopping that currently exists for colleges and universities. Perhaps you'd thought that the only college you could afford was the mediocre institution in the next town, but Barron's will show you otherwise. --Stephanie Gold

Best college guide I have used
I am surprised there are no other reviews for this book. My daughter is a senior and we have been using this book for over a year now. All but one of the colleges she has looked at is in the book. Its best feature? It describes colleges that cost a little less than the biggies - most in the range of 20-25 k including room/board. That is very important for me since we have three kids to send to college. I don't expect much financial aid so we will be on our own except for some merit money. My daughter wants a small school, not in the city. She does very well in school but is not very competitive. So this range of colleges is perfect for her. I recommend it even if you are looking at some of the more prestigious schools (some of those are in here too). The other great thing is that the description of each college is very lengthy, some are 4 pages long.

The Best Kept Secrets for Winning Scholarships

Great tips and a good reference
The book lists several web sites to use and other books, but the tips included in the book are pretty good by themselves. It tells you how to get your scholarship applications noticed, not just how to do it. I won several awards by using the techniques so I'd definitely say it's worth it! My scholarships totalled over 10,000 dollars when you include the recurring one for the 4 years. I really like the chapters about helping students prepare for college - they have some good tips for money management. The author's style seems pretty straightforward, but it doesn't get boring since she keeps giving you so much information and places to go search for stuff. Great book!

A Must-Read Book for any Financial Professional
I was skeptical that another book could be different than any other on this same subject, but was I wrong - this is a "must-read" book for any financial professional, accountant, CPA and appraisal expert who conducts online research and looks for in-depth information. Lang and Tudor have outdone themselves. Bravo to a world-class effort! One piece of information in the first chapter alone more than covered the cost of the book.

Faith for Prosperity -- AWESOME!
After reading Brother Hagin's "New Thresholds of Faith", I did not think he could be more detailed about a Christian's "financial prosperity" as he was in this book! To quote Brother Hagin's own words, "...I have since learned, through God's Word and applying it in my own life, that God wants His children to 'prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth'" (3 John 2). Kenneth Hagin is an inspiring teacher, pastor and writer of the Truth and this book will teach many "young" Christians that prosperity is not for the "secular" world, IT IS FOR GOD'S CHILDREN - by FAITH! At the same time, prosperity and/or wealth must be dealt with WISELY! En agape ~ a fellow Christian

Bonanza Bits
I don't know much about either the stock market or other speculative types of investments. So it is refreshing to find such a down to earth money-saving book as Bonanza Bits is.
Actually, what the author writes about is something any lay person can take advantage of, and use everyday.
For example, saving [money] simply by giving up cable and installing [an] antenna system in its place.
Other info is superbly written and is detailed for everyday people. I liked it..well, no, actually I LOVED it!

Very good book for Accy 101
Most students in introductory accounting will become users not preparers of accounting information. Many accounting programs have altered the introductory course to stress the interpretation and application of accounting numbers and to deemphasize the mechanical, bookkeeping aspects of financial accounting. Understanding the cincpetual issues from a user's perspective has become the focus of these programs and some schools even teach little or no debits and credits. The question is not whether accounting programs should teach their majors bookkeeping; instead, the issue cneters on determining the best place in the curriculum to teach these issues. schools that adopt a user-friendly approach to accouting 101 might attempt to push these topics to intermediate accounting that covers these mechanical topics. This book is wonder for this purpose, providing the mechanics of bookkeeping and introducing the reader to accouting information system. The text also introduces the student to auditing, both its goals and its elementary priciples. Particularly, this text is packaged with a CD-ROM containing FINANCIAL ACCOUTIUNG TUTOR software, which is an innovative, self-paced tutorial that uses interactive problems and graphical tools to help students understand the logic underlying financial accounting concpets and procedures. Highly recommend

Great book for those building a fee-based business!
If you're a successful adviser (whether commission or fees) this is a great book for insight on institutionalizing your practice. The commission=salesperson= own a job, not a business scenario is right on. Great templates and tools to apply right away.
Worth checking out along with Deena Katz book.

Building Wealth Using the Tin Can Method
I thoroughly enjoyed this book by Margarette Perkins. It was very informative and prophetic.

In lieu of the economic climate of today, like the Enron downsizing, unethical mergers, people losing their 401K plans, pension plans going bust, and social security being tapped into by the federal government, this book was written way ahead of its time in the sense that these things are happening now. Not a day go by that you don't hear about corporate corruption with regard to employees' savings and investment plans.

One chapter that was very phophetic to me was Chapter 7 which is titled, "Reasons Not to Trust Man." From what I can see, this book was published in 1998, but look at what is going on with a company such as ENRON. And, this is 2002.

The author warned of these kinds of events years ago. As stated by Ms. Perkins, today we can no longer put our trust in the system. Our trust must be put in God and in ourselves to plan for our own financial future.

A definite must read for any individual seeking direction for their life regarding their finances!!!
