Gives good, basic understanding of unclaimed property
I am a paralegal and this book gives a good, basic understanding of various state laws as well as requirements for finders. You can glean ideas from this book to start your own business, if you so desire.

A good introduction and survey of unclaimed money issues
The text takes you into the subject of unclaimed money in a very simple way. It shows you the origins of unclaimed money and some of the mechanics of how it is handled. You are given a general guide of how to go about tracking through this evident mess of uncorrelated data. He also tells you that some of the government agencies appear to rely on few citizens actually finding money, and most of the unclaimed money has actually been spent by states. There is also a overview of the business of returning money to owners, and earning a profit while doing it. The level is all introductory. Advanced techniques and logic are mentioned, but not extensively gone into. It is an easy, comfortable and easy to read and remember format.

Among our MOST-swiped books!
Admittedly, the library on our breakfast room bookshelf is "eclectic." But it's interesting to see which books guests trot off to the beach with. I had to laugh when one couple -- returning FROM the beach with this book -- was overheard saying "If we do just those 3 things, WE can live on an island too!'

Excellent intro to making smart decisions about money.
A comprehensive, practical, introductory guide to making sound financial decisions. Using an easy-to-follow question and answer format, this savvy, down-to-earth duo explains banking, the stock market, mutual funds, retirement, home financing, estate planning, and much more.

Excellent
Having read twenty or thirty investment books, this one has got to be one of the best introductory to advanced texts I've seen. It is an extremely easy read and a great reference book. I especially like the author's highlighting of the most important concepts in each section.

This is a must read for anyone wondering about investing or retirement plans. Mr. Pryor gives a step by step plan to make and then meet your financial goals. Also very highly recommended is the a companion volume from the Adelphos Publishing Group: Shundrawn A. Thomas' Start Planting!: A Spiritual Guide To Wealth Creation And Successful Investing (097274181X, $14.95).

Great Financial Advice, finally, in a Christian Context!
This book, part of a series, is a fantastic, accessible way of understanding how to better use one of the many resources we have - according to principles provided in Christian teaching. I highly recommend picking up a copy of this book. The authors of the series are quite knowledgeable of financial and spiritual matters, looking at their backgrounds.

Excellent field guide
This is definitely the best book in the market for Swaps and related derivatives. The level of detail is extraordinary in comparision with other available books. Leaves very little gaps which means it is easy to apply the knowledge in practical situations.

Most books lean either towards the technical/quantitative side or the financial business side. Richard Flavell's books is a much-needed well rounded book on the issue. Definitely a much better book than Satyajit Das/Fabozzi books.

I wish Richard Flavell would write more. If you're buying one book on Swaps and related OTC derivatives, its got to be this one!

Flavell's book find the right balance
Whilst I have only read the first 100 pages or so of Favell's book so far, my impression is very favourable. This is simply an excellent book that finds the perfect middle ground between academic texts and introductory works, both of which usually leave out practical market issues such as day count conventions, business day adjustments, rounding rules, interpolation concerns, available market data etc

As a quant working for financial software company finding the detailed information required to write documentation to drive software development is often difficult. This book supplies the level of detail needed, and also contains excellent descriptions of different pricing methodologies for interest rate swaps.

Later chatpers on risk management and pricing of other derivatives look equally impressive, and I look forward to reading them.

This is the best book on swaps that I seen so far; a definite improvement on Das in my opinion.

A "user friendly" financial planning instruction resource
The costs associated with a college or university education are going up faster than the general rate of inflation and projected to do so well into the new two decades. Taming The Tuition Tiger: Getting The Money To Graduate by syndicated personal finance columnist Kathy Kristof informatively presents 529 plans for financing a college education; along with financial aid routes to pursue; information on acquiring student loans; public, private, and corporate scholarships; Uniform Gifts to Minors Act Accounts; low-income family Individual Development Accounts, and more. An excellent and thoroughly "user friendly" financial planning instruction resource, Taming The Tuition Tiger is strongly recommended reading for the families of every college-bound youth.

Whew! I'll sweat less and do more after reading this.
Kristoff is very clear and helpful for anyone looking at the (phenomenal and rising) costs of educating a child. We'll be using this for private school and right into college. It doesn't seem so overwhelming now that we've had some guidance to the options (and their pluses and minuses).

Telecommunications Cost Management
Published in Digital by Artech House ()
Author: S. C. Strother
Amazon base price: $79.00
Average review score:

Pretty comprehensive and practical
The best part of this book is that it offers over a hundred serious techniques to cut telecom costs. They are explained in layman's terms even though some of the concepts are technical in nature such as with data networks. I could see how the book would be helpful for small businesses, but the real value is Strother seems to understand the complexities of multi-location telecom environments. He explains many ways to eliminate overcharges but also suggests proactive ways to prevent carrier malfeasance, which has always been a problem, in my opinion. Read Chapter 3, The Complete Do-it-yourself Telecom Audit, and you will immediately know how to put these techniques to use. Overall a pretty useful book.

Worth every dime!
This book is a great resource for anyone wanting to understand the telecommunications industry. It gives many practical ways any business can save money on their telecom bills. A great investment--you will gain back many times what you spend on this book in savings on your telecommunications expenses, and gain an understanding in how it all works at the same time.

The Theory of Monetary Institutions
Published in Hardcover by Blackwell Publishers (June, 1999)
Author: Lawrence H. White
Amazon base price: $97.95
Buy one from zShops for: $95.00
Average review score:

this book is worth the price-
This is indeed an interesting book, the only topic really missing being the debate on competitive banking under 100% reserves versus fractional reserve free banking. Chapters on, among other topics, dynamic inconsistency, monetary rules and competitive supply of fiat-type money-with a lucid critique of the Klein-Hayek model-are absolutely excellent. The math is accessible although at a serious level.

A Great Comprehensive Book
A great book. It is very comprehensive and written in a simple way (regarding the complexity of the themes it deals with). The investigation is very objective, it uses sound theoretical analysis and different mathematical models (which he explains in relatively simple terms), contrasting them with the historical evidence and empirical data. It treats the history and development of money (from commodity money to fiat money), and monetary institutions, doing an exceptional analysis of the gold standard, its costs and benefits. It also analyzes the role of Central Bank's in money and banking, and uses various models used to try to explain the Central Bank's behavior, according to different goals that Central Banks may have. Finally, it discusses alternative monetary proposals from Friedman to Yeager, with its pros and cons. In conclusion, a great book to update and deepen your knowledge about money and banking.

Understanding Health Care Financial Management: Text, Cases, and Models

Excellent book for healhcare financial analysis
As a graduate student of Dr. Gapenski's at Univ. of Florida 7 years ago I cannot begin to say how well this book prepared me to carry out sophisticated financial analysis for an $8 million revenue physician group, but also to refresh my memory of concepts to share with nonfinancial managers. A great text, complements his Intermediate Financial Management textbook perfectly. Also see books by William Cleverly at Ohio State and Ernest Pavlock (wrote the bible on physician group financial management).

Selected by leading medical management education course
Gapenski's book is the lead resource for the University of Texas "Alliance for Medical Management Education" modules on Health Care Contracting and Accounting and Finance. The book is an excellent resource, and is readable enough to be covered thoroughly and read by the physicians who comprise the student body.
