IT REALLY WORKS!
ENOUGH MONEY really works! Mr. Vodra has developed a sensible and practical approach to managing one's personal financial life. His "Seven Rules of Prosperous Living" are easy to understand and follow. After reading his book and completing a "Lifetime Balance Sheet", I have managed to begin a savings plan and almost eliminate my credit card debt in a few short months. I highly recommend Mr. Vodra's approach to gaining financial freedom.

Common sense, simple rules, down-to-earth language.
Before I can do my job as a financial planner, I often have to cajole my client into getting their stuff together in order to give me some idea what I have to work with. Now I can just refer them to Dick's wonderful book. Taking the "Seven Rules of Prosperous Living" and applying them to the "Lifetime Balance Sheet" can help even the most disorganized, disfunctional procrastinator develop an easy formula for a stress-free financial future.

A unique perspective on an emerging field
Finally, a book that incorporates corporate responsiblity for the environment while maintaining the practicality of concern for the bottom line. It covers all the bases with respect to how within the financial sector companies can adjust to environmental change, include environmental reporting in their balance ledgers, and learn about the wide variety of investment products with origins in environmental issues being introduced into the market. Truly a pioneer in a field that commands attention.

Great overview.
An excellent overview of an emerging field. Discusses the development of environmental policies and products as well as the new products that are being created, such as pollution permits, weather derivatives, catastrophe bonds, etc. A good resource for those interested in hedging environmental risk and exploring the growing intersection between finance and the environment.

Ernst & Young's Personal Financial Planning Guide - 3rd Edit
As a tax professional and tax educator, I recognized many years ago that tax & financial illiteracy is a major problem amongst taxpayers. For example, consider: 1. how many wage-earners do not even understand all the deductions posted on their pay statements -- or that net pay is not the same as taxable income; or 2. how many people do not understand that the basic tax equation is "tax liability = tax base x tax rate" -- and that tax rate alone is not enough information to calculate one's tax liability; or 3. how many people think capital gains taxes paid are a "bad thing" -- when in fact, they are frequently a "subsidy" provided to wealthier taxpayers at the expense of wage-earners; or 4. how many people are eligible for some form of deferred compensation [401(k)plan, 403(b) plan etc] but they either do not participate or do not participate fully; etc, etc, etc.

In an effort to promote "Basic Tax Literacy," I highly recommend the EY-PFP Guide as a highly accessible & understandable guide for teens and above. This book makes a wonderful gift for all life events -- coming of age ceremonies, graduations, marriage, birth of child, divorce, mid-life crisis, pre-retirement, retirement. It could even serve as a textbook for certain courses and seminars.

E&Y Personal Financial Planning Guide(3rd ed.)- a good tool
This 3rd edition is a useful tool for people who are either starting to understand personal financial planning or those who have years of practical experience but want the latest information available. Complex concepts are explained clearly and concisely. There are no major gaps in the information provided. The book is well organized. Part II which uses a life-event approach to financial planning will be most helpful for people beginning to understand personal financial planning or facing a major life-event.

I enjoyed reading the book and found it filled with exactly the information I was seeking to improve my own personal financial planning. The format was very understandable and will allow me to continue using the book as a reference.

An Excellent Guide for Women and Money
When Dee Lee first told me whe was writing a book about money for women, I admit I was skeptical. I know that Dee is among the best at financial education. I also know, from reading her other books, that she is an excellent writer. My skepticism was not her ability, but the topic. I was not sure, given the large number of books on money and financial planning, that there was anything new to be said. I was wrong.

I picked up a copy of this book planning only to skim through it. I found myself reading it. Of course, I had to ask myself why? The answer is in the title "women". This book talks to us as women. It's not just about money: it's about our fears. As women, we have many emotions about money that often keep us from looking hard and carefully at our finances. This book deals with the obstacles we place in the way of our financial freedom and then proceeds to tell us how to overcome these obstacles. Dee Lee deals with why we often do not address such a fundamental topic as our money. She then offers solutions. This is a woman's perspective on money -and having worked with clients for many years as a financial planner, we do have a different perspective then men. This difference is recognized and dealt with in the book. I highly recommend this book for all women. You may think you do not have to be concerned ever with handling your finances. This is a common response of women. Yet, as page five says "Ninety percent of women become wholly responsible for their finances at some point in their lifetime". This is you. This book is for you.

Advice You Can Use
Believe it or not, my bank advisor suggested this book - after my umpteenth phone call asking her advice about various financial problems I was having. And now this book has become my new bible of advice ! I could not believe how much I learned in such a short time - and how easy the book made it seem. There was something in just about every chapter that applied to me, my life, my finances,my future - you name it. Highly, highly recommended. If, like me, you thought Dow Jones was the designer who made those great wool slacks ( that's Jones NY !) it's time to buy this book - it's the best money you're going to spend all year.

Finally - a financial management guide I can understand!
Gene has done a great job of capturing the finance essentials every manager needs to deal with - in a logical, easy to read manner. I found that simply reading - not studying - the book gave me far more financial understanding than any theoretical b-school course, and in much less time. The anecdotal illustrations are very helpful in delivering clear explanations without getting bogged down with jargon. Well worth the read.

Great Read, Excellent Reference
Corporate finances are becoming increasingly important in a tight-economy world. The word is out: manage your finances well or you're in trouble. Even as our economy improves, this topic will continue to be critical. Every executive, manager, and aspiring manager must be familiar with the concepts of corporate finance.

If you are not a financial wizard, and most of us aren't, this book will give you the depth and breadth of understanding to "speak the language." Twelve well-organized chapters present the vital information about the role of financial management, the various reports that are generated-why and what they mean, profit and cash flow, and critical performance factors. The author, a Certified Management Consultant and Certified Professional Accountant with years of advisory and teaching experience under his belt, then delves into specialized areas. Readers will learn about cost accounting, business planning, budgeting, financing a business, and attracting outside investors. There is a tremendous amount of information packed into these pages.

As part of McGraw-Hill's Briefcase Book series, this book is filled with seven types of call-out boxes: Smart Managing, Cautions, Tricks of the Trade, Key Terms, Examples, Tools, and Mistake-Proofing. This is the kind of book you will read through to get a comprehensive picture, then return to as a reference book for yourself and others. The author's writing style is personal and conversational---like having a chat with an accountant who can explain what you don't understand...and what you don't even know that you don't understand. The depth is here.

There have been a number of books written on this topic over the years, many of them thick, heavy, and filled with small print and hard-to-comprehend charts and graphs. This book is designed to be enjoyed and absorbed: larger type, lightweight, and readable. Graphs and charts are clear; they make sense.

If you're going to read---and keep---a book on finance for people who don't go there frequently, this is the book. Clear some space on your bookshelf. This one's a keeper!

Financial Accounting and Reporting: Business Enterprises (Original Wiley Cpa Examination Review, 1996)
Published in Paperback by John Wiley & Sons (January, 1996)
Author: Patrick R. Delaney

Used price: $13.68

Helped me pass the Finance section of the CPA exam!
I sat for the May 2001 Exam and purchased the Wiley Finance volume to study from in addition to my review course. What a great investment! Unfortuantely the course alone was not helpful enough and I didn't pass the other three sections but I did ace the Finance section--thanks to the Wiley book. It gave me a clear understanding of what needed to be studied for the exam and plenty of questions. I'm sitting for the other three parts next May and I'm buying the Audit, A&R, and Business Law books to help me study. I know I'll pass this time around.

Excellent, focused and great help in passing CPA exam.
Book is very well organized (part of the detailed 4-book series from Pat Delaney, published by Wiley & Sons) and makes studying by topic easy to follow and understand. Each topic is followed by related questions, very similar to those on the actual CPA exam.

This book is more detailed than Delaney's 2 book set, and is specific to each of the 4 CPA exam sections. If you have passed some of the exam sections and need to redo one or two for whatever reason and have done ALL of the questions in the 2-book set and are looking for more detailed theory explanations, then this (or any of the other 3 in the 4-book series) book is the one to get.

Far exceeds the others (CPA Excel software, Conviser Duffy etc...) in ease of use, clarity of material and overall CPA preparation.

Overall, top marks.
