An excellent tool for understanding this complex subject
"The Challenges of Wealth" is full of practical information, exercises and tremendously useful advice. The authors address both technical and psychological issues; and in so doing, provide a complete exploration of the important concerns that wealthy individuals are likely to encounter. It is written in a clear, accessible style and is easy to read. The points made in the book are equally educational to the wealthy and to the financial planners, investment advisors, attorneys, accountants, philanthropy consultants and counselors who work with them. For anyone curious about this subject and looking for answers, this book is a must-read.

This is an excellent book
It is old, almost impossible to find, and I suspect that only the author and I have ever read it but it is a very good book.

I am a structured settlement expert and do financial planning for injury victims and often quote this book in lectures.

First book I ever came across on the psychology of receiving sudden wealth. The insights into the guilt that injured people and people who inherit wealth sometimes feel is priceless. Worth owning just for that.

Took me about a year to get a second copy of the book after my original was lost but it is worth waiting to have again.

Scholarships: Almost Full, Full
When you check out the colleges in this book, be sure to also check out West Point. It's the best kept secret. To learn more about it, get the book, "West Point: Character, Leadership..." by Norman Thomas Remick in addition to "The College Board .. Book".

Nice job
This is a great arrangement. The book is almost unnecessary. Just plop the CD in your computer, fill out the personal survey and the program gives you a list of all the scholarships (that college board has in the book) that pertain to you - as you described your history and interests in the survey. It tells you the basic info, due dates, etc. THEN you can link by internet to the scholarship site to get the full story if you think you qualify for that particular scholarship. Many applications are online and you can download or submit directly. This is terrific.

He answered my questions
This book provided me with an understanding of how this complex process works in an easy-to-read and an organized format.
In only a couple of hours I was able to grasp how financial aid functions, and made a few changes that hopefully will give my son more aid eligibility.

Easy to understand
After sifting through dozens of books, my husband and I found this easy to read, understandable and a good foundation to get through the financial aid process

Practical financial guidelines to apply before you wed
It is a scary thought that most marriages that end up in divorce do so over financial concerns. Larry Burkett's book shows the clear value of managing your money in your marriage. He sites many examples from consulting where families were unprepared for financial situations that arose in their lives (for example, purchasing a home based upon on two incomes and then one of them becomes pregnant ...). Other examples include communication breakdown and unrealistic expenditure patterns. Most importantly, Mr. Burkett emphasizes the use of a budget in order to avoid these pitfalls and take teh stress out of your marriage.

I found the book to be a simple and interesting read. There are many practical guidelines about establishing a budget. The percentages in the proposed budget are backed up with numbers and consultation experience. You can modify the budget to fit your own needs. There is also a lot of discussion about debt reduction.

My wife and I read this book about 6 months prior to our wedding; it allowed us time to put into practice the very principles of good money management that Mr. Burkett teaches. Now these ideas are second nature and easily implimented into our marriage. Our finances are under control and do not control us!

This book will contradict what society teaches. Great!
My gilfriend bought me this book because we are planning to get engaged soon and be married by next summer. This book taught me everything that I did not learn at college. Society teaches to use other people's money to make survive. Mr. Burkett will put everything perspective by showing the biblical principles when it comes to money. The interesting thing is that this book will contradict everything society teaches about using credit. You will learn how to orgainize your finances and realize that everyone should be living on a budget. Two things I learned from this book: 1. Spend less than you make. 2. It's better to make interest than to pay it. Great advice! I know that this book will change your view on how God calls you to stewardship.

The most readable finance book available
Of all the finance books I have read, this book is the most readable and the one I use the most. It sits on the credenza behind my desk. It is known to many of my colleagues as the "bible". To get it out of my office you have to sign in blood. I would hate to lose it. I wish the author and/or the publisher would get together on putting out a new edition.

Still my favorite finance book!
I bought this book when in came out in 1986 and still use it daily. Without a doubt, it is the finest, most readable finance book I have. I would like to see an update - I guess I'll check out other books Finnerty has written since.

Corporate Financial Reporting

Great Fun to Teach
Here is a secret: the study or practice or accounting may be tedious, but the teaching of accounting is fun. It's about money, power, greed, betrayal -- what's not to like? More particularly, it is one of those courses where students come in bearing such low expectations thaqt their only surprises will be pleasant.

Of all the accounting materials I've been exposed to, none is more fun to teach than this book by Brownlee, Ferris and Haskins. There is an introductory chaper of nuts and bolts. But then, the bulk of the book is made up of case studies in accounting analysis. With bright students (I use it with second- or third-year law students), you can do a whole course from the standing start.

Whenever I teach accounting, I tend to treat it as a "fraud" course--try to find the gimmick. In general, students are uncomfortable with the approach. They tend to think of accountants as nice people and their a not always happy with my seeming cynicism. Post-Enron (and WorldComm, and Adelphia, and Parmalat, etc. etc., etc.), I am tempted to call up all my former students and say -- "See? I was right all along." Meanwhile, it is wonderful to watch the student puzzle over a Brownlee problem and then say (as if with a flash of insight) -- "But that's wrong!" And of course the answer is: "That's why it's in the book."

An excellent book.
This is an extremely well-written and thoughtful book. The authors take a highly practical and rigorous look at accounting as used in practice by publicly-traded companies. It is an effective integration of accounting principles and real-world financial statement analysis -- helps the reader develop a sense of what is aggressive, what is conservative, etc., and what critical issues are discernible but not immediately obvious from a routine examination of financial statements. A good read for would-be Ben Inkers. For a more basic introduction to accounting, check out books by Robert Anthony.

Cost-Effective Diagnostic Imaging
An excellent book for teaching house-staff. However, it is now out-dated; a new edition is needed.

A great aid to the practicing clinician
I read it cover to cover. It is an excellent guide to imaging studies - I really hope they come up with a 2nd edition.

A rethinking of economic theories
The author has successfully discussed the various theoretical works done on "inflation". It had been enlightening to know that many of the great, simple theories in economics simply did not say anything useful. The balanced approach in discussing each issue had been a key feature throughout the book. I would recommend that final year economic students and MBA students should read this excellently written book.

A Gold Mine of information from a Trusted Source
Few books match what is depicted in "the death of inflation" The importance of this work is even more obvious as we are now several years after the book was originally published. The historical perspective presented is quite interesting, and with the advent of the internet, labor is the true source of the "zero inflation" idea. Price competition is inherently deflationary. This long term study "of studies" will show the average reader that capital, like any other commodity, is just another "fixed asset" in the universe. There is neither more or less of it in the universe, which means that inflation, as we have come to know it, is nothing more than an illusion in the short term, and a fallacy in the long term.

Must Read For Churches Considering Debt
This book does a marvelous job of laying out the Biblical cautions toward debt and encourages ministries to trust God for ALL their needs. All this without coming off as condescending to those ministries that have already chosen to use debt.

You can tell the authors desire to help ministries seek God's will.

Very well written!

A Must for Pastors, Elders, Deacons, and Bldg Committees
A great resource to prayerfully read through when your church is considering whether to borrow or not. The authors address common rationales for borrowing and address each one scripturally and pragmatically. Our western culture embraces financing for everything. This book will challenge our cultural default position of getting loans for church buildings and activities.

Bottomlines: (1) Borrowing is not a sin, but it is risky, (2) the Bible only warns AGAINST borrowing and debt, never advocates it, and (3) God gets all the glory when we trust Him to provide in His time.
