Step-by-step guide from the master
This book set me up very nicely for a career in forex markets. Possibly the gentlest introduction to international finance, the book does not waste any time with implementation of the ideas, instead provides you with the requisite knowledge, and illustrative examples. I had the fortune of being taught the subject by the author (Dr. Eun), and so the book was fully utilized. However, other teachers would also find the book an ideal companion to course notes. In fact, the book is so well written, it seems like a tutorial. You cannot go wrong if you are using it for international finance courses. The book will also help you with preparation for the CFA charter examinations.

An excellent textbook on international finance
This book has three major strengths compared to other textbooks in this field. #1: It is soundly based on FINANCE theories. Most other textbooks on international finance have more of an "international BUSINESS" taste. #2: It is more analytical than most others. #3: It is comprehensive yet very concise. This is a must-read in the field of international finance. It is particularly suitable for senior-level finance undergraduate and MBA students as well as finance professionals with an interest in investments.

Dr. Eun is a genius.
As a student of Dr. Eun, the book not only gave me a deeper understanding of the world of international finance, but a deeper understanding of this very complex man. This book should revolutionize the international financial community.

Used it in place of my assigned financial accounting book...
NYU's Stern School Of Business uses this book and its a well-crafted introduction to financial accounting. While taking accounting at the other New York business school, I deep sixed my assigned accounting book and instead borrowed my wife's. It coverage of topics and pedagogical flow are quite approachable and manageable. Struggling friends begain to purchase it for themselves. An excellent book. An interesting book as well. Case examples and references keep things interesting. Not just dry rules.

accounting study guide i want a complete book
An Introduction to acconting, Assets, The time value of money, Liabilities and equities, financial Investment, Analysis, Role of accounting and Debits and credits

An excellent text to ease you into accounting
Accounting is the type of subject that can ramp up quickly in difficulty, and this text plots a nearly perfect learning curve in getting the reader well-grounded in the fundamentals. I purchased this text as a requirement for a course, but it is a definite keeper and I would recommend it without hesitation to anyone interested in learning about accounting.

Key Management Ratios: How to Analyse, Compare and Control the Figures That Drive Company Value (Financial Times)

Key Management Ratios
This is a wonderful book. The pictorial presentation takes away the complexity about financial management and makes a difficult subject extremely simple to understand. I would wish that the author in further editions add more dyanmic interactions about alternative strategies that are followed on the balance sheet and profit and loss account, so that this excellent work could be taken to a higher level. I think no one in a business organization, right from the CEO to the lowest level, can ill afford not to keep this book close to them, Hats off to Mr Walsh,it is a great contribution to business management.

one of the best
This book helped me understand what balance sheet management is all about. Author draws examples visually. A must book for investors who begin a new.

It is the one book on financial management that helps you to get an intutive grip on the mangement ratios and how they relate to business.

Key Mamangement Ratios by CIARAN WALSH
An excellent reading and a 'guide' for a Non- Financial Manager or, for one who is driving his business anew. The book gives in a very simple language, the profound concept, and the method to understand the key ratios that we need to focus on, and make it happen. Specially recommended for Technical Mamagers who want to enlighten themselves about financial aspects of business.

An excellent budget, financial and treasury primer.
As an elected Treasurer and local government finance director for the past several years, I found this book to be an excellent primer for all elected and appointed officials. The practical advice offered by Mr. Wood is based on his experience and input from his peers and is extremely valuable. The book is written in a very informal and concise way and should be required reading for all elected officials. In fact, I gave this book to each City Council member and they have all indicated that this book provided excellent financial advice.

Excellent reading for the Government Watchdog
Len Wood presents Dollars and Sense in a practical manner enabling readers to absorb its content. A must read book for those that "watch" their local governments, school districts and elected officials. Written for fast reading, yet covers the subject matter extensively. If you want to be certain your local government is working at its fullest potential, Dollars & Sense can be a great help to you.

Great book for people interested in local government.
What a delightful book. The author has presented his subject in an understandable and capitivating manner. He does this by using lots of real life vignettes to make his points. People who want to know what their local officials should and should not be doing will want to read this book.

How I bought the farm
With little money to deal with, I couldn't believe that this book could do anything for me. Finally after a year of letting it collect dust, my husband and I tried it out. We set goals for 1,3,5 and 10 years separately and then together. In less than three years we purchased the 5 acre farm with farmhouse just by following the instructions in this little bitty book. I recommend it very highly to anyone who is in debt and wants out and to anyone who just wants to get more out of the money they make. Like I said, you don't have to have much money -- this books tells you step by step how to use it better.

You can make your paycheck last!
This is a great book. I lent my copy to someone and now must replace it. I recommend this book to any and everyone who wants to top living paycheck to paycheck. Why? Because it is simple and easy to follow. And best of all, painless!

This Is A Great Money Management System!
I read finance books as a hobby. Of all the books I've read on budgeting and personal finance, this is the best. I use this system today and have for several years. It does not teach how to invest. It does not focus on getting out of debt and staying out of debt, though you will be able to do that if you follow the system. It shows how to set up a simple but effective budgeting system. My recommendation: read it!

Bravo!
Editors at Financial Times (FT) co-authored this volume, with Tim Dickson serving as executive editor . It offers "The Complete MBA Companion in Strategy," the result of FT's strategic alliance with the University of Chicago Business School, INSEAD, the University of Michigan Business School, and the Said Business School at Oxford University. This is the seventh volume in what is identified as "The Financial Times Mastering" series. It contains articles that first appeared in FT in late-1999.

The material is carefully organized within 16 chapters. In the first, there are two essays: "Strategy and the delusion of Grand Designs" authored by John Kay, Director of london Economics; the second -- "Strategy, blind men and the elephant" was co-authored by Henry Mintzberg of McGill University and INSEAD, Bruce Ahlstrand of Trent University (Ontario), and Joseph Lampel of the University of Nottingham Business School.

As for the final chapter, "Fresh Challenges for the Future," it was written by Dan Schendel, founding and current editor the Strategic Management Journal. The reader is advised that "This final module sums up the main themes of the book, addresses some of the current controversies, and offers pointers on how the field may develop in coming years. The core message is that those who fail to keep up with the best in strategic management risk losing their businesses and losing their jobs. The cases of failure cited throughout the book underline the point." My own crystal ball imploded long ago so I now cut Schendel considerable slack, given the fact that his comments on "fresh challenges" were composed five years ago. In fact, I think his analysis holds up remarkably well.

Although exceptionally well-written and skillfully-edited, this volume is by no means an "easy read." My own opinion is that it will be of greatest interest and benefit to the more capable students enrolled in graduate schools of business, and, to senior-level executives. Of course, the immediate value of each chapter will be largely determined by the immediate needs and interests of each reader. I would be remiss if I failed to acknowledge the superb graphics provided by Graham Parish. I also want to commend, again, Tim Dickson and his associates -- notably Ken Pottinger, James Pickford, Laura Scanga, and various school "co-ordinators" -- for pulling together so much excellent material, then getting it all properly presented. Bravo!

Great Collection of Strategy Articles
This is a great collection of articles covering all aspects of business strategy. Prior knowledge about the subject matter, though is not necessary, will help you appreciate the material more. I strongly recommend this book to those people interested in building a thorough understanding of strategy.

Broad spectrum and excellent quality
Mastering Strategy contains essays with consistently excellent quality, the topics cover a broad spectrum. The book provides a great perspective on various dimensions of strategy; namely: social impact, historical development, academic interest, operational issues etc. All essays are concise and further readings are suggested at the end of each article, in order to guide readers for further investigation.

It does not get any better than this
This is a comprehensive and masterfully written book; all MBA students and anybody doing business in or curious about the global economy will benefit from reading this work. All the fundamental principles of the field are clearly described and extensive real-world examples and case studies are given in which principles are synthesized and analyzed to create a very understandable and thorough learning framework. The result is one of the best textbooks I have ever read. The complex subjects of exchange rates, international monetary system, currency forecasting, country risk, foreign exchange rates, currency futures and options, swaps and interest rate derivatives, translation and transaction exposure, measuring and managing economic exposure, corporate strategy and capital budgeting for the multinational corporation, and more are covered.

Quick shipping! great seller.
Quick shipping! great seller.

Outstanding Finance Text
This book covers a comprehensive range of topics regarding international finance and economics. A good deal of the material covers macroeconomic issues that a country will face but there is even more infomration relevant to decisions and situations that companies must deal with when entering foreign markets. The breadth of information makes this book appropriate whether you want a blueprint for doing business overseas or just want to better understand the impact of global trade.

Shapiro is very well respected as an economist and this book is a good example why. I was fortunate enough to have him as a professor in an MBA program and can say he has an amazing command of the issues as well as the ability to communicate his knowledge very effectively. The writing in this book is clear and concise with a ton of info packed into each chapter. Buy it, you won't find a better text on this subject.

The McGraw-Hill 36-Hour Course in Finance for Nonfinancial Managers

Finance made easy
I'd definately recommend this book to anyone who feels phased by finance. Either as a refresher course to revamp finance skills long gone or for newcomers to the subject. The material is very relevant and extremely readable which makes an otherwise droll subject quite lively and interesting. I would have given this book 5 stars but being the pedantic reader that I am, I discovered that some of the calculations were actually inaccurate and, even worse, the answers to the review questions were wrong too. This doesn't help when you're not a natural number cruncher and need solid accuracy to assist in the learning process. Needless to say, its still a fundamentally good book and I know I'll be referring to it over again to make sure the basic concepts stick.

Breathes life and energy into a potentially dry subject.
This book starts teaching before chapter one even gets under way by setting the expectation that you really can learn (and better, apply) finance no matter what you're trying to do.

The sample situation that follows all the way through the book really helps focus on the concepts being taught. Some of the examples are humorous and some make you want to share what you're reading with a loved one.

I bought this book because I'm just starting to deal with the budget aspects of network management, and needed to figure out how to lay out what I want to do technically to non-technical folks who have the company checkbook. I already know what I want to do, how much it will cost - demonstrating benefits and describing it in language the "C" team - CEO, CFO - speaks really helps.

One of the best discoveries for me while reading this book is that in addition to helping me achieve the goal above, I found the concepts are applicable to budgeting for the home as well.

It's definitely worth a read!

I'd give it six stars if I could! Fun To Read
OK. You're reading about this book because some brilliant mind at your company decided you should head up the financial decision-making department of your company. Never mind that you majored in Italian and never studied finance! Or, you are new to business and want to start your own company, and you know you need to know a bit about bookkeeping and financial management. Congratulations! You've found the right book.

"The McGraw-Hill 36-Hour Course In Finance For Nonfinancial Managers" is a great little book. Every small business owner who hasn't formally studied finance should read it.

Robert A. Cooke covers it all-- sales, cost of sales, expenses, buying, leasing or doing without, the balance sheet and income statement, and much more. This is not a bookkeeping text per se. "The McGraw-Hill 36-Hour Course In Finance For Nonfinancial Managers" teaches finance which is a broader topic. A strategic topic needed for successful growth of a company.

Unlike many introductory small business books, "The McGraw-Hill 36-Hour Course In Finance For Nonfinancial Managers" does a really good job discussing budgeting and long-range planning. Using the numbers to plan rather than just recording them for the sake of tax-reporting purposes is what finance and financial decision-making is all about.

Further, Cooke makes financial business planning, which is considered by many to be a boring topic, rather fun to read. He follows the new fictional start-up company, The Spouse House Company. The company makes little sheds, Spouse Houses, for spouses who are in the dog house and who need a little shed in the backyard to hang out in until trouble blows over and domestic tranquility is restored.

The book ends with a short self-test you can take to see if you have retained the information covered in the book. But, hey, this is real life and not school. You don't have to take the short little test if you don't want to. Nor do you have to work out the short review questions. But, I'd recommend you do.

"The McGraw-Hill 36-Hour Course In Finance For Nonfinancial Managers" is not only very readable, but reads quickly at only about 270 pages. That means you will be able to read it twice.

In addition to "The McGraw-Hill 36-Hour Course In Finance For Nonfinancial Managers," if you are starting your own business, you should also pick up a copy of "Small Time Operator," which covers taxation dates and issues, and a copy of my own "Thinking Like An Entrepreneur." These three books will give you a strong tripod base upon which to build your small business and entrepreneurial finance knowledge.

A novel way to learn about managing your money
This is a work of fiction about an honorable young woman's struggles to get out of debt and get on a firm financial footing. She succeeds with the help of a mentor and by working hard, visits to Debtors Anonymous and much will-power. Along the way, she, and the reader, finds out a great deal about dealing with money in all its aspects in an entertaining way. I am not just starting out in life and I learned a lot.

I liked the book, though I would sock any dentist who tried to talk about compound interest while he was drilling. This could be an excellent gift to give anyone going off to college, or starting a small business, especially an arts business. Anyone heavily in debt might find the heroine a wee bit hard to live up to.

The Money Mentor
I liked this book because the financial information is user-friendly and told as a story, which makes it easy to absorb. It is not dry as if coming from a text book. I found the information easy to apply to my life. It is a great resource book that I will keep by my side for a long time. One of the many important things that I remember from the book is that "I have to do what I love" and abundance will follow somehow. I liked the money exercises at the end of the book, because they are very clear to follow. I was so enthusiastic after reading the book that I started working on my numbers right away and collecting the information needed to help improve my finances. I have purchased the book several times already to give it as a gift to my friends. My thanks to the author.

Manhattan Librarian's recommendation
I highly recommend this compelling story of a young woman's coming to terms with debt incurred by overuse of credit cards. Iris Cassidy is a contemporary "Everywoman" whose coming to awareness about her finances also involves a journey of self-discovery that has a profound spiritual dimension. This is a warm-hearted didactic tale, a novel with a message, of one woman's experiences of life, work and relationships, as she wrestles with her realization that she has been spending more than she earns, and resolves to free herself from the burden of debt. In her story, personal transformation occurs through growing self-awareness, with the help of a mentor. She comes to see that forming a viable spending plan for repaying her debts has to make room for what gives joy and makes life meaningful for her--in her case, dancing. This well-written book can give anyone -- young or old -- insight into how to find financial freedom through careful planning and openness to change. It entertains while it teaches, even includes helpful exercises at the end.

I tell my friends "it's like Chicken Soup for the Wallet"
It's small and handy and I refer to it all the time. I even took down some notes in the margin.

You Get a Good Return on Your Time and Money from This Book!
Nancy Dunnan has taken 300 important and valuable personal finance lessons and made them fun, easy and interesting to read. Although some of these things you know already, it's not a bad idea to be reminded. In other areas, you'll either get new ideas or better ways to implement them.

Here are some of my favorites:

You can save money on international air travel by being an air courier (if you can live with carry-on baggage), and she provides a telephone number to get assignments.

While abroad, use your ATM card to get cash rather than your credit card. The credit card will start charging you interest right away.

To use that ATM card in many countries you need a 4 digit PIN code. Be sure to change to one before you leave home.

On the other hand, buying things abroad with a credit card is a good idea because you get a better exchange rate that way than by converting currency.

Want a beach home? Buy it in January in North America.

There's a service you can contact to find someone to pay your parents' bills when they can no longer do so, and they live far away.

You can save money by letting vines crawl up a trellis rather than your home.

If your bank is taken over by another one, switch your account to a credit union. Fees will be lower, and the rates paid on your savings will be lower.

Shop with 20 friends, and you can probably get extra discounts.

She shows you how to get rid of junk mail.

Be sure to check the register tape at stores that scan items. A 10 percent error rate is not unusual.

If you have student loans, she has lots of information about how to gain advantages in paying them back.

If you are near retirement, she has lots of good data on Social Security and tax issues.

If you take a cruise, be sure to buy any on-board gifts at the end of the trip (big discounts come then).

If you have too much debt, she can point you to those who can help you.

With this book, your money can take you much further. You'll also be proud of yourself for being a more intelligent consumer. So overcome your misconception stalls about how to get the most for your money with this book!

This is quite a valuble source to ANYONE who has or wants $$
