Good Hands-On Guide
Planning your own demise is never easy, but made easier with a good, basic reference like this. While it may not substitute for an estate planner, it will give you the concepts and language. It will also give you current trends, like getting better deals through pre-planning. At www.architarium.com, we are seeing a boom in advance purchase of mausoleum spaces, which is not only a cost savings but an investment as spaces are now traded nationally. Plan the funeral you want while making financially sound decisions. Your survivors will thank you.

A Great Balancing Act
I already owned several books about estate planning when I bought Estate Planning For Dummies. The books I had were pretty comprehensive, but they went into far more detail than I really needed, and I wound up not doing as much as I should have since I was more confused than anything trying to digest all the different kinds of trusts, etc. However, this book gets right to the heart of the various topics it covers (and is pretty funny in some places, too!). It doesn't try to be an encyclopedia or a book for estate planning lawyers. But it succeeds at what it does apparently intend to do, which is help the average person like me understand just what I need to concentrate on for my estate planning and what I don't need to worry about. Bill Gates and Warren Buffett wouldn't get much out of reading it (though they might find it entertaining) but for the other 99% of us it's the perfect book to help figure out where we are in estate planning and what else we need to do. I definitely recommend it, it's very easy to read.

Extremely well organized.
I read a lot of Dummies books, and one thing I really like about them is that they are usually well organized. Estate Planning for Dummies is no exception. The authors start with relatively simple concepts like just what is your estate and how to figure out how much it's worth, and then move on to wills. There is lots I didn't know about wills, such as what they discuss about probate. Then they move into trusts, and do a good job since they get right to the heart of the matter and help you figure out whether or not trusts even make sense, depending on your particular situation. I also thought the chapters on estate taxes were well done, too. I knew about the federal estate tax, which doesn't apply to me, but I was unaware of gift taxes, state inheritance taxes, and the estate recovery act.

All in all, I now have a much better idea of estate planning and even picked up a few hints to talk to my lawyer about for adjusting my will, which I already had but hadn't updated in a long time. That's another thing the authors do well, which is mention over and over how you need to regularly update your will, your insurance, and everything else that's part of your estate planning.

Financial Facts Help More Than Females
Financial Facts for Females has helped my husband and me get our financial situation under control. We started at the beginning of the year using the principles in the book to figure out our net worth. From there, we were able to set goals and develop a budget. The book is easy to read and follow because it does not use a lot of convoluted terminolgy. It is a book that both females and males can use to help them set and reach their financial goals. My husband and I have been able to buy the house we have always wanted by following the information provided in this book. I can't wait to see what else this author has to share with us.

Changing The Lives of Women
Dr. Dixon's book is changing the lives of many women. Her approach is hands-on and engaging. She is rewriting how women view money. Families will benefit from her results.

Financial Facts for Females
This book is excellent for women who are single. I was really elightened. The tips and the advice is very helpful in my day to day spending routine.

Dear Medical Colleagues!
When I first purchased this book, I thought it was just another pricey self help tome, written for self indulgent doctors, by a novice editor. Boy, was I wrong. This text, with CD-ROM, is a real masterpiece, written by professional CPAs, MBAs, JDs, CFPs, and even physician executives, all who have years of experience working with medical practitioners, IPAs, PPMCs, or MCOs of all types. The doctor-editor even has an MBA, is an insurance agent, securities advisor and is a board certified surgeon and finacial planner.

The book itself is divided into two parts: (1) medical practice finacial planning and (2) personal finacial planning. For, it is Dr. Marcinko's opinion, that in-efficent practices will no longer generate the free cash flow needed for personal planning endeavors. In the current managed care environment, he indeed may be right....

For example, the book augments the traditional financial plannig disciplines of budgeting, taxation, investing, insurance, retirement and estate plannig, with the new realities of managed medical care. These previously unaddressed topics include: office based managerial and cost accounting, marginal revenue and cost concepts, negotiating skills, asset protection, office computers, software and MIS, risk management and a host of legal landmines, including OSHA, Stark I and II laws, anti-trust, insurance fraud and abuse, HMOs, MCOs, PHAs, etc.

This book is so easy to read, fact filled, and stream lined for doctors, that I consider it a must read for all medical professionals. Rather than being overpriced, it is really under valued relative to the cost efficiencies it will bring to your practice and life. Without a doubt, this book will make you money, and save you even more. Don't go to the office, or through life, without it.

A New Guide For Us All
This book is a wonderful new addition to the libraries of those of us who are health care professionals and are trying to deal with the daily changing of medicine and economics. As all of us who practice medicine know, our practice time has increased while our economic gains have failed to keep pace. In fact, most of us are at a net loss over the past few years if you extrapolate your earnings per hour of work. But as dedicated doctors we strive to provide the best care for our patients regardless. Dr. Marcinko's book provides alternatives to traditional thinking and helps you see light at the end of the tunnel. Wonderful ideas and many practical thoughts for us to work with today so that tomorrow is a little better. Highly suggest this to all my colleagues.

Doctor-Financial Planner to the Rescue
A Senior Healthcare Executive, October 23, 2000

Doctors are NOT Poor Business People

It is well know that doctors and nurses are poor business people, especially in the world of managed care. Well, not this editor or his contributing authors; all from the fields of law, accountancy, medicine, insurance, securities, business, management and the investing and financial services professions.

Not only does the first section of this book review medical office practice management tips, but it also teaches physicians how to profit more from their toil. Then, the book relates best practices to invest hard earned money in the sectors of risk management, budgeting, housing, automobiles, college educaton, taxation, investing, retirement and estate planning.

URLs and information resources abound, and the CD-ROM is a fabulous guide giving 'real-life' examples for the above topics. Physician and healthcare provider specificity makes this major textbook a 'must read' for all medical professionals.

Empower Yourself Financially
As a babyboomer and a single person, I am still trying to find my way
in my financial life. When I ran across this book in my local library,
I knew that it was for me.

Mary Ivins discusses finances from the
point of where they actually fit in the real world, and does so from a
spiritual point of view. She also includes many thoughts taken from
things that have happened in her personal life - things that motivated
her to take steps towards her own spiritual and financial
prosperity.

This is a "how to" book of the first order. At
the end of each chapter is a summery of the thoughts shared within
that chapter, and exercises for the reader to do to see how well they
understand what has been discussed.

Throughout the book are sample
forms that the reader may use as is or adopt to their own
circumstances. At the end of the book we find a glossary of financial
terms - those terms that many of use are unfamiliar with, and need to
know before we can take an active part in our financial lives.

I
truly enjoyed the discussion of where to place assets, and what the
difference in various investment opportunities means in the short and
the long run.

If you buy only one book this year to help you with
your finances, this is the one that I personally reccomend.

Financial Security for Women
Mary Ivins' book is a heartlifting and inspiring "rags to riches" account of how it is possible for a women to pick herself up from the boot straps and build financial security with confidence.

The glossary of terms in this book is worth the price of the book alone and is one of the best reference tools for understanding the often times challenging and itimidating financial world to a novice such as myself.

Even though this book was written with a women's slant on seeking and obtaining financial security, it will be valued by anyone who realizes the importance of being able to acquire financial security for their peace of mind should they be faced with divorce, widowhood or retirement.

Financial Security for Women.
I was delighted with Ms. Ivins' book. It lifts the mind and heart of the reader with powerful motivational appeal. Today, when so many women are single parents and struggling to make ends meet, this book is a wonderful, practical teacher and an example in perseverance, tenacity and courage. It has given me hours of thought-provoking reading and valuable lessons in investing.

Informed sources report that today's young people are more interested in money management than their predecessors--but on the whole remain frighteningly ignorant of the specifics involved. Got Money? Enjoy It! Manage It! by personal-finance writer Jeff Wuorio is a sassy but smart compendium of relevant advice for those in their 20s and 30s who would like to buck that latter trend. After addressing everyday fundamentals, including budget setting and bank shopping, it concentrates on more advanced aspects of individual economics, such as debt, investing, retirement planning, home buying, securing financial assistance, utilizing electronic resources, and preparing for taxes. It also contains tips on such frequently overlooked cash-saving practices as reworking onerous student loans, finding and acquiring adequate renter's insurance, and buying household staples in bulk. "Making the most of your money is not as complicated as particle physics," Wuorio writes. "Granted, some things are more complicated than others, but the lion's share of basic financial ideas and principles are within the intellectual reach of anyone." His book synthesizes a wealth of solid information into one handy resource, and does so in a way that newcomers to the world of finance and investing can easily understand and readily utilize. --Howard Rothman

Outstanding and entertaining source of information
Got a degree? Got a family? Got a life? Then by all means, you need got money?

This entertaining, informative book is a lifelong resource of financial information not only for those in their twenties and thirties, but for those of us for whom thirty is but a distant memory. Written in a friendly, open style, reading got money? must be what sitting down and talking to Jeff Wuorio is like. From interest rates to bonds, stocks, budgets and home ownership, this book is chock full of information and handy websites for further research that is sure to become a critical reference for years to come. Of special interest are the tips on budgeting and saving for the future. Personal anecdotes further enliven the book, and one comes away feeling not only well informed, but awed by the wealth of knowledge that Mr. Wuorio possesses. It is clear from reading got money? that getting money and being successful in saving, managing and using it is not just for the well-heeled or the older generation. This book is number one on my list of holiday gifts for all the young people in my life.

VERY PRACTICAL, SMART AND HIP ADVICE
Wuorio offers advice on most every aspect of a person's financial profile; credit cards, cars, homes, investments --- but does so in a straight forward and humorous manner. It was actually FUN and informative to read this book and I know that I'm more armed to make smart decisions on a myriad of money choices

Like advice from a trusted (and witty) friend
Reading "Got Money?" is like sitting down with a friend and chatting about money--provided that friend is funny, lively and knows nearly everything about budgeting, insurance and 401k's. Whether giving advice on getting out of debt or explaining the intracacies of investment, Wuorio shows he has done his homework, and is anxious to share that information with 20- and 30-somethings. And like a trusted friend, Wuorio doesn't claim to be the final word on any topic, but ably directs readers to useful Websites for additional information. In short, this book is what every book on financial advice should be, but most aren't: practical, direct and -- dare I say -- enjoyable reading.

The keys to fundraising success
Harvey McKinnon's brilliant book literally delivers what it says on the cover. If you don't already have a monthly giving proposition you're already behind, but this book will quickly get you back in front. If you do already recruit monthly donors this book can help you do it better. Harvey McKinnon is widely acknowledged as the Pope of monthly giving. 'Hidden Gold' is a readable, entertaining and informative tour of the most lucrative area of fundraising after legacies (bequests). You can't afford not to have it on your bookshelf.

Hidden Gold Totally Revealing
The only question you need ask yourself is: Could my nonprofit prosper if it had a monthly, assured flow of gifts? Author Harvey McKinnon -- one of the world's more successful fundraisers and a pioneer who has established successful monthly-giving programs in organizations large and small, national and local -- provides reader-friendly, step-by-step instructions to help you mine the hidden gold in monthly donations. Practical, comprehensive, with excellent examples. Everything a how-to book should be.

Essential
I have dozens of how-to books on my shelves, for fund raising and marketing communications. Maybe 6 of them are imperishably valuable: quick, sensible, well-written, and backed by lots of experience. Harvey's new book is among that chosen few. I didn't know what monthly giving programs were and I'd never heard of Harvey McKinnon before a Canadian fund raiser I met at a conference started praising Harvey to the stars. The fellow was right! This book is perfect: practical, illustrated with examples from organizations of all sizes, clearly written, wise. I don't even do monthly giving (although I have clients who might). I still loved reading this book. You won't be disappointed.

Want to turn your life around for God? Read this book!
Are you struggling in your faith? Are you having trouble listening to God's voice? Did you know that there are several ways for God to communicate with you? Did you know that most of the time we hear two voices (Satan and God)? Want to know how to tell them apart and how to ultimately listen to God? Then you should check out Charles Stanley's book Listening to God. Two years ago I received this book as a gift and I just put it on the shelf. When I finally read the book I realized that if I would have read it the first time I would not have been faced with the issues that I am struggling with today.

In this book Charles Stanley not only teaches the reader how to listen to God, but he also tells the reader how to take that new knowledge and apply it in real life situations. He uses examples and stories from his own life, which helps the reader relate to the new concepts and issues. Each point is backed with scripture and is followed by questions that will make the reader take a closer look at his or her walk with God.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who is stumbling in their walk with God or anyone who is trying to strengthen their relationship with the Lord. This book, although it is apart of a Bible Study series, does not necessarily have to be read in the correct order. Just pick it up, read it and don't give up because the Lord will use it to show you the way!

LOVED THIS BOOK!
I really enjoyed reading this book and thought it was excellent. Not only did it focus on the "why do I feel this way" aspects of emotions, but it also offered great suggestions on how to deal with our emotions. The book focuses on emotions in general, but then gradually confronts specific emotions such as anger, fear, anxiety in later chapters. It gives great examples on what to do when you feel a certain emotion and how to deal with it. What I liked even more is that the text was backed up with great biblical verses and it also made you think. I've already started putting the book to use and I can already see a change in the way I think and react to my emotions! The only problem with this book is I wish it were longer! :) Highly recommended!

"God Has A Purpose..."
'God Has A Purpose For Everything That Happens To You', is the Introduction to this book that, along with 'Another', may in fact change your life forever. Charles Stanley has been blessed with a powerful Gift from God to teach His Holy Word...that is equaled by "very" few. His 'In Touch' Ministry is indeed IN TOUCH with the Holy Spirit God Himself (Now find out more...).

Good entertainment overview
This book did a good job of covering the many aspects to entertainment. It was a bit on the dry side though. For those trying to decide where they belong in the world of entertainment (as a career or as an investor), this book would provide great insight.

Best used as a reference
This book is the most complete available dealing with the various industries that make up "entertainment " in our society. It has many nice figures and tables that can be used to illustrate a point if you're a student doing a report, or a teacher covering this area in a lecture. But, it is a very dry read otherwise. It works best for me as a reference text to be used in companion to other texts on the various subjects. It'll have to be updated anually to be a valid reference in this age of the internet... it could use a website to go along with it maybe? Good book to keep on the shelf and refer to when you need a stat.

Lays it all out
I had always wondered how claims of unprofitable multimillion dollar-grossing films could be substantiated; now I know. The author provides a very good presentation of the details of entertainment financing. I particularly liked its up-to-date financial information on specific films; as well as the explanation of the power balance among studios, producers and distributors. All of this, while providing a historical backdrop explaining how things got to this point made for compelling reading.

It may be a bit dry, but that's what you want from a text like this. Better that than to err on the side of being too insider-focussed, name-droppy, or "lite." This book explains how the money flows and that riveting enough for me.

Detailed but flawed
I have read the book in detail, since this was the primary textbook we had for our class. It is quite astounding how so many things have been compiled into a single book -- not only in scope but also in terms of the number of researches put together. But it can be noted that the authors are clearly biased towards "modern finance" and defend clearly their own views. Another flaw is that there are ambiguities in some parts. You would not really know what they want to say. With respect to mathematics, the level demanded is alright. In fact, it could probably be made better with more math. Ideas could become clearer that way.

beautiful!
Since I have a MA in Econ, I was looking for a book that builds the bridge from economics to finance. copeland and weston have done an excellent job,and I am lucky to have struck gold after months of frustrations with "popular" texts like brealey myers. Copeland and Weston is meant for advanced undergrad and grad students. It presents the material in a serious, mathematical fashion, unlike Stephen Leroy's Financial Economics (another excellent text, but aimed for Phd students),so that there is a feeling of actually learning something at the end of the chapter. Most importantly it doesent trivialize issues like B/M do. I would definitely recommend the book to those interested in learning finance seriously.especially to those with a masters background.

Finance
Copeland and Weston did an extraordinary work writing Financial Theory and Corporate Policy. This book is an excellent academic material for either MBA or Ph.D students with a concentration in finance. However, we need an update edition because the last one (1988) does not incorporate the last empirical developments. I hope Copeland and Weston can produce a new update edition. Everybody that loves finance will be very grateful.
