It keeps getting betterThe stories are inspiring, touching and empowering and I love saying the affirmations throughout the day.
I am also a graduate of Chellie's Financial Stress Reduction Workshop and have to say the value of taking her workshop cannot be measured in dollars and cents! The synergy of the group and the support of the group is wonderful and it's great to see so many people taking the energy of money and making it work in a new and measurable way.
Chellie's teaching style and humor helps to support and honest, straight-forward and non-judgemental view of our own financial picture. The class and the book have helped me see how my financial life got to be the way it is and how I can change my circumstances and my experience with money. Now that's success!
If you cannot take the class, buy this book, read it and do the exercises beginning today - get a buddy to do it with you and have fun with your money!

Energizing for women of all agesNonetheless, this book is energizing and encouraging. I have provided some of the charts to staff that work for me in the hopes that it will encourage them to save for their retirement early and constantly.
I read many books, and I've read many on financial investing--this one provides lots of motivation and encouragement in addition to its clear explanations and wonderfully practical advice.
I wholeheartedly recommend this book. There are other excellent books on investment and financial planning, and each individual should start with one that speaks to him or her. A book like this one explains the basics without confusing the consumer!
Best wishes on your financial fortune!

InvaluableThe book explains many concepts in corporate finance, from the usual stuffs like DCF, cost of capital, risk, to much more difficult issues like business restructuring, in a very interesting, practical and readable way. Coupled with real world examples like the Time-Warner case, this book is clearly a must for those who want to built a strong foundation in finance.
The best introduction to basic financial management.I used the book during my MBA program, even though it was not required. My study group members always requested that I bring it to group meetings. I even had a classmate approach the author (who happens to be my father) at my graduation and ask for his autograph.
The book introduces complex finance concepts like net present value in non-academese language and the real-world examples reinforce the concepts.
I strongly recommend this textbook to anyone preparing to enter business school or embarking on a job in financial analysis.
Professor Higgins is a beloved teacher at his home institution, the University of Washington. You can share in a little of his vast expertise and gift for teaching by reading his book, Analysis for Financial Management.
One of a kindWhat makes it even better, is that it lives up to its back cover: it turns Finance into Management, or at least tries very hard to show what a CFOs life is really about, in practical examples.
Very strongly recommended for people that need to understand what being a CFO is about (all prospective MBAs) or people that need to understand what choices sometimes have to be made in finance.

Office wisdomExpect no encouraging words or quick fixes, but a lot of work and thinking on YOUR side. Steele guides you in the process of becoming successful at the corporation (and even at life, too) through his well organized and entertaining book. His style is direct and harsh, and besides it's directed to women it works for men too (at least a 90%).
The book is about americans corporations, so readers from other cultures might find that some parts doesn't apply to their own situation (even in case of working for american companies located outside US), but anyway, a large part still holds.
As a plus, you can call the author regarding these matters to his own web radio show at live 365.

This illuminating biography reveals a man whose conscientiousness, integrity, and good humor exist alongside an odd emotional isolation. Buffett also masterfully traces his life: his enormously successful partnership; his early, inspired investments in American Express and Geico; his companionship and investment with Katharine Graham of the Washington Post; his role in the Capital Cities purchase of ABC; his unique relationship with his wife and mistress; and his rescue of the scandal-ridden Salomon Brothers.

A Biography, NOT an Investment Guide
Read about Buffett and be inspired.I cannot imagine anyone reading this book and not immediately becoming a disciple of Warren Buffett. In a way, Lowenstein's biography reads like a legend - Buffett is the messiah of capitalism. Imagine having an average return on investments of 29% for one solitary year. Now imagine making that same average return for 40 years! Finally, throw out any notion that making such massive amounts of money was done deceitfully or immorally. Lowenstein helps us see Buffett not as somebody who has stolen wealth away from the masses (because if anything, he's created wealth for the masses), but as an investor - someone who recognizes value and buys into that value. It's what we do when we buy stocks or fall in love (is not love simply a statment of value?): we make investments.
Lowenstein's portrait shows us of a man who has made billions by making rational and morally correct decisions. Yes, it would seem that Buffett has an ingenious ability to understand the capital markets, but even excluding his knack for money, the bottom line which Lowenstein draws is that Warren Buffett is an avatar for human beings. This is not to say that Buffett is perfect, but we would be hardpressed to find such strength of chracter and mind in another human being. How many billionaires live in the same house they've lived in for 30 years? How many CEOs tell their shareholders that they get to decide where to the company should make its charitable donations?
Buffett stands very much as a symbol of Capitalism as an ideal, and Lowenstein paints a portrait of Buffett that beautifully illustrates a life lived under such righteous principal. As such, if you disagree with capitalistic ideals, DO NOT READ THIS BOOK!
Otherwise, maybe you'll be like me and find in Buffett an unlikely hero.
The Most Comprehensive Biography YetIt's especially puzzling that despite being a nerd, Buffett easily charms many of his class mates and others with whom he interacts. These skills were wildly successful as he went out seeking capital to launch his partnership.
I have read this book a few times, and recently took to underlining the most interesting anecdotes passages and Buffettisms. After recently finishing the book, I realized that I had practically highlighted each sentence. There are many gems within to be comptemplated
If you REALLY want to understand Buffett, ignore the "Invest Like Buffett" books out there (and there are a bunch). It is a lot more worthwhile to learn about the man, and especially his principles. This book in conjunction with his annual letters to his partners / shareholders is the best method by which a student can truly learn from the Oracle of Omaha.

Comments from the AuthorsThe first chapter defines the trading model and the various components: the portfolio, trading systems, position sizing, filters, and trade management. Although the book focuses on automating technical analysis techniques, these systems all work within the same framework introduced in the first chapter.
Chapters 2 through 7 cover a variety of trading systems: pair trading, pattern recognition, float analysis, momentum / range, and volatility. In Chapter 8, we create a "system" system by combining all of the systems into one strategy (a bottoms-up approach) and then compare this approach with a top-down system (a variation of the pattern recognition system) derived from market breadth and sentiment indices such as the put/call ratio, VIX, advancers/decliners, etc.
In Chapter 9, we recount one of our trading days. This was a fun chapter for us because we had no idea how the trades would pan out later in the week. After reading this chapter and our assessment of each chart, judge whether or not you are a better chart reader or system trader (N.B. we are the latter).
Chapter 10 is the day trading chapter (recall Ben Hur on a Roman galley chained to his rowing bench). Yeah, we poke fun at day traders but apply some common-sense technical analysis techniques for intraday trading. Hint: Use the rectangle for intraday trading, especially afternoon breakouts.
Finally, Chapter 11 contains the source code implemented in TradeStation's EasyLanguage: 64 pages of trading systems, indicators, and functions.
Regarding the book itself, many people have asked why we would publish these trading systems. The answer is that the systems are diverse and have an almost infinite number of variations, across time frame and sector. Find your niche and exploit it. As to the rating, we probably could have included more intraday examples and code in Chapter 10. Yes, the book will draw the ire of those who believe that one cannot trade the markets mechanically; however, with the proper software platform, we feel that any market knowledge can be encoded and implemented within a system.
Enjoyable readingMost of the systems incorporate the concept of price contraction/expansion and trading performance is mainly dependent on price volatility. These types of systems are a natural consequence of the bubble trading environment where prices surpassed normal levels of historical volatility by leaps and bounds. The trading environment is quite different now, as the recent rise in the markets is marked by low price volatility. This environment tends to favor trend following systems, something that the book does not present.
Stock selection and stop placement is a bit confusing. First, the position modelling incorporates an ATR factor of 1. The entry/exit default models call for a 0.3ATR trigger above and below the high/low. From the get go, the max. loss potential is 2*0.3+body of the bar, which in most cases will be greater than 1ATR. The exception to the case will be in the narrow range models, where the body of the previous bar may be small enough to limit stop loss at 1ATR. The other dubious issue is stock scanning and selection. It is not clear whether the authors trade the system on a stock for an extended period of time, or whether they scan the markets for stocks that meet the filtering criteria and perform a quick test to determine performance. If the latter, then the trading system works as an automated discretionary system rather than "mechanical" on its true meaning. The latter approach does not take advantage of the statistical edge of a system when only traded a few times in a certain stock, and becomes a random event.
The filtering seems somewhat very restrictive and the ATR trigger rather than the high or low of the bar is not convincing. I have developed and traded narrow range systems where the high/low of the bar works as a better triggering mechanisms. This is because of the nature of the stocks that the authors tend to favor in their selection. The filtering on the narrow range system is restrictive, and when traded on a single stock for a considerable period of time on a daily timeframe, the user might be disappointed.
But overall, the book is an excellent addition to your trading library.
Bottom line is the book makes me money
