It's rare to find a good art book, by a great artistThis book, transcribed by Sloan's wife (who was a former student of his), reads something like a working notebook at times, but, if you are a serious student of art (as every working artist should be), there are sentences in this book worth digesting over and over again. You might not agree with everything Sloan says, but there is an obvious strength here, built during a lifetime of study and teaching. Sloan was yet another great teacher from the Art Student's League (other teachers included Bridgeman, Hale, and Nicolaides who published significant books of their own), and one of the major painters of the Ashcan school of painting. I'm grateful for this book and wish that there were dozens more written by other significant painters.

History becomes personalI purchased this book originally to help me pass the time on a business trip in my hotel room - my mother grew up on a farm in Kansas traversed by trail and I had heard stories all of my life - mostly a lot of legends - I had occasion to visit northeast New Mexico several times over the past twenty years and now having read this book I have a deep respect and reverence for those persons whose dreams and visions made possible the taming of the American frontier - I became personally involved in the life story of Marian Russell and came away at the conclusion of the book feeling as if I had heard the story of a close family member - it was as if I were there with her living the story as well - wished there were more

Fantastic 2 in 1 children's book! Story book and coloringThis is a wonderful children's book that has black and white illustrations. The kids can read the story, or have it read to them, and they can color in the illustrations as they wish. If you are from Cleveland this book is a must as it is a story about Cleveland. It is a book that you will pass on down from generation to generation!

Readable, practical, theoreticalThis is a surprizingly readable account of a tricky subject. The author provides a good theoretical background, but realizes that some readers will want implement lattice rules without studying all the underlying theory, and organizes the book accordingly.

FULL OF INNOVATIVE AND USEFUL IDEAS.Thinking of re-painting a room or your entire house? Looking for innovative ways to transform your "inner image " of how it could look into realistic form and beauty? Read this book before you begin. It is filled with versatile ways to achieve exciting effect in the home with paint, either on the walls or on the furniture or on the floors. Ms Sloan presents painting techniques, the newest material, and provides a list of suppliers as well. Textured looks, pearlized paint, sparkle paint, how to use plaster and patterns make this a very savvy book. Glad I found it before I made a very expensive mess.

Great book for this reading levelI thought this was a very interesting and well-organized book for this age level and/or reading level. I actually bought it to read to my 5 year old. We learned about the ancient Egyptians' beliefs of the afterlife, and the mummification process, but in a way she could understand. Good illustrations with it.

Cool Book (even if you're not a basketball lover). This book is awesome. It talks about the past and present of a game they call "basketball." And, if you're a basketball lover, or you like watching basketball on TV, this is the book for you. It has directories of the front-office (like the GM) of each team and it has schedules of every game of every team. This is an awesome book, but if you just "hate" basketball, just get a biography of some famous basketball player and read it. You don't have to do whatever I say, but it works. I tried it on my sister. She hates basketball and I gave her a biography and she loved it. I also tried it on a couple of my friends. It works on them too. I also wouldn't get the book if you hate numbers. There are a lot of numbers in this book. Thanks for reading my review on a great "if your really bored" book!

MY FAVORITE MUSICAL!This is my favorite R&H show! I own all of the Vocal Scores, and love this one a little bit more than the others. All music from the show is contained in this Vocal Score, from the Overture to bows and exit music. This is the music from the original broadway production, and from the version that is released from the Rodgers and Hammerstein Music Theatre Library. (...)

EASY TO READ, INTERESTING HISTORY OF RECENT ECONOMIC THOUGHTStigler won the Nobel Prize in 1982 for his work on antitrust and the role of information in the economy. He was one of the founders of the renowned Chicago School of economic thought, whose most famous member was Milton Friedman. Stigler traces the origins of the Chicago School in this easy to read, non academic memoir. He also tells a bit of personal history, but his main focus is on the analysis of thought evolution in economics.
Overall, I thought this was a nice concise book. With only about 200 pages, the author surely measured his words. This is not a book about economics (though there is a little bit in it), but mainly a book on economic thought.
Fascinating, accessible style, humorous--a must read for allNobel prize-winning author George Stigler provides insight into the working of a great mind and the notorious "Chicago School" of economics. Worthwhile for its presentation of the human side of the "dismal science" as well as its clear explanation of basic concepts of Stigler's economic theory. Stigler holds nothing back and delivers a frank and modest account of his life and dealings with other prominent economists
