Don't buy this book...
...if you're looking for an Exchange administrator's reference book.

Although a hefty book, with a hefty price tag, this book simply discusses Exchange in general at great length without actually telling the reader anything useful at all. The raft of casual references to other Microsoft products and programming technologies would surely bore and baffle most programme managers while the lack of specific technical information and advice means that it is useless to administrators as well.

The style is verbose and so littered with gratuitous acronyms as to be unreadable; should you make the effort to unravel a paragraph you realise that actually there is no useful information there at all.

If you're looking for help with a real world exchange environment, want to know how exchange actually works, need to learn advanced administration techniques, or have to design an environment and want some pointers then forget this book. Even the supposed "Immediate Solutions" sections simply provide facile GUI screenshots of straightforward and basic operations without providing any explanation of what is going on.

In summary: I bought this book, and wish I hadn't.

So much potential...wasted
At first look, this book seemed impressively comprehensive in its scope and I was excited to explore its depths. However, after an hour or two of reading it, I was confused as to why I was learning so little. Then I realized, this book is full of information, yet communicates little. It has no voice. It makes no commitments and takes no risks. The authors never step from behind the curtain of its Microsoft marketing vocabulary to give personal advice, apply experience to problem solving, or explore off-the-path alternatives.

I should say that there is one message that does come out of the book. It is so permeated with "Microsoft Exchange is your ultimate savior" promotional content that I'm surprised it isn't a Microsoft Press book. If your desire is to learn how Exchange fits into the context of Microsoft's overall messaging strategy, then this book is very good. It also definitely does have a lot of information in it, expressed in Microsoft terms. But if you are looking for the so-called "popular Black Book problem-solving format", then look elsewhere. Maybe you'll find it in a Wrox or O'Reilly book.

Black Book used to mean nitty gritty.
Instructions to make a quick buck: Take the Exchange 2000 release notes, shrink wrap them, and call it the Exchange 2000 Server Black Book. They knew we were desperate for literature. I feel so violated!

Only good as a deployment guide
You will find much more info just reading the online help files. Which is what I didn't want to do, and had to anyway! Well over half the book covered deployment and planning. I wanted administration and much more in-depth coverage of Lotus Notes connection and Outlook Web Access. I only gave this book 2 stars because it did answer a couple questions, but if I purchase a book and have to get most answers in help files, I don't like it. I partly am to blame for not liking it though. When I got it, there were only two other books available. I see several others now, and will have to spend more I guess.

Not worth the money.
This book does not contain real tech information pertaining to real word situations. This book might a little helpful if your migrating from exchange 5.5. Other than that it is to non-technical.

Rarely have encountered a book this useless.
As others have said clearly, this book is a waste of trees, ink and the time of its reader. The "authors" should be ashamed of such blatant hucksterism and poor description of even the most basic aspects of trading. Even if you are a neophyte, look somewhere else.

save your money ...
... I have no idea what objective these guys had in mind when they sat down to write this book.... This book is just a bunch of information thrown together (probably downloaded from the internet) and they obviously took no time to put any real effort into this book. I was terribly dissappointed with my purchase of this book.....look elsewhere if you are interested in getting started in forex trading.

fair treatment of topic
this book is very heavy on the operational, functional aspects of fx trading. it is not a book on strategy, but does not claim to be either. for someone looking to get into fx trading, the material here is useful to provide a macro view of the process and the background of the rise in popularity of fx trading, and what to look for in terms of fx service. if you do not get that information from this book, you would be well-served to get it somewhere. if you already have the basics, history, fundamentals, etc. you can find more thorough treatments of strategy elsewhere. this book is a little misleading in the sub-title "from the fundamentals to the fine points". one might expect that the book covers everything one needs to know to mount a trading strategy, when what the book really delivers is "fundamentals and the fine points often overlooked because they are not necessary in determining future success or failure in the fx markets".

Disappointing
This was a huge disappointment. The book is simplistic, disjointed, and offers nothing that even a novice could use. It has a feeling of being written quickly to cash in on the forex trading phenomenon. Look elsewhere for advice in particular anything by Jack Schwager or by Wiley Press, they are usually excellent.

No stars would be a better rating...
If you have absolutely no knowledge of the Currency Markets then this book may be useful to you. The subtitle of the book is "Manage Risk and Reward in the Forex Markets by Learning How to:..."

Unfortunately, the overwhelming majority of the book is about Currency Futures and Options but NOT Forex.

Very dissapointed to have bought this book...
This book is not worth the paper that it is printed on. Author does not know the subject, and does not offer any information that could not easily have been obtained online for free. Tried to contact author at his website to answer question and never responded. Classic example of take the money and run. Will never buy a book again from these authors nor from Prima Publishing.

Ditto - Don't buy this for 70-224
I've just gone through 4 chapters, I'm 25% through the book and I'm two chapters away from installing the software.. Come on... The authors take a long time to get to actually using the software and I'm losing confidence they really ever worked on it at all. The book reads like one made for Exchange in general, questions were bolted to the end of the chapters then glossed as an MCSE book with a CD to the back for good measure. Chapter section headings and layout in general could be a lot better, and they are so verbose. God, I think I've read the same ROI / TCO sentence a thousand times. It's taking a lot of time to go back through the chapters and find specific points because the book is organized so badly, Chapter 4 in particular. I passed the Exchange 5.5 test a while back and this one just doesn't seem to have the technical focus of the books I used for that test (Teach Yourself MSX 5.5 and the 5.5 Exam Cram book).

I'll probably buy another book to do 70-224. I can't afford the time to spend reading a book that is likely to waste the $125 testing fee, and my time. It's too bad because I relied on the same series for SQL Server 7 and it was excellent.

I'm a big fan of Amazon's customer peer review comments and don't like to see poor reviews that unfairly trash a book, unfortunately I have to agree with the previous poster. Don't buy this book for 70-224.

Do not use this book to pass 70-224
I just passed the 70-224 test today and it was not because of this book. The first half of this book is all about the history of email, exchange business practices, and every acronym you can imagine (most were not even real acronyms). None of this pertains to the actual test and it will do nothing but fill your head with useless information. There are hardly any diagrams or references, and the practice exam program that came with the book asked me questions on customizing MMC consoles :( I have been a steady fan of Syngress study guides and so far I have used them to pass my CCNA, CCDA, the 4 core MCSE tests and now the 70-224. Btw ... the publisher of Exam Cram and Exam Prep books is now out of business ... I'm sure you can figure out why :)

The more things change....
I bought this assuming to learn a little more about equities trading around the globe, surprise! Its a replica/reprint of the 1921 edition of the book, not really up to date enuff to trade off. Note that they didn't sell as many books in those pre-Amazon days, this is marked # 168 of nnnn?

Of interest to historians or the incurably inquisitive only. TP

You should pass on this one!

Exchange Rate Parity for Trade and Development : Theory, Tests, and Case Studies

Narrow and Pedantic
The author harnesses empirical data but fails to put forth any meaningful hypothesis concerning the declining value of money in third world countries. I find the scholarship a bit narrow-minded. For example, the idea that the devaluation of the peso is the systematic outcome of the free currency market is poorly hatched and hardly researched. The author fails to address the geo-political landscape as potential causes for this loss of value and refuses to discuss the issue of NAFTA in a coherent way. My thinking is that the author is a pampered, ivory tower intellectual who has lost touch with his ability to reason.
