very little practical advice...more like a giant bibliography...
.....the author merely introduces many concepts, then recommends other books for actual information.

A very good place to start
This book is definitely for the beginner. The title says it all Getting Started in Trading. It briefly touches on all the different aspects of trading, and shows the reader exactly how many different choices and decisions have to be made before one can even start to "practice" trading.

The author lists resources (other books, web sites and organizations) for the reader to seek out for further research, and nicely pairs the resources listed with the many choices the reader should be making along his/her path to becoming a trader.

I chose to check this book out from the library. It's not one I feel the need to have sitting on my bookshelf. I got exactly what I needed out of it - a starting point and a list of places to go next for more information tailored to my specific research needs.

Stigum (or Success) versus Choudhry
A one-star Amazon review of the late Marcia Stigum's book: "The Money Market" denigrates her work, but recommends this book. Coincidentally it seems to have appeared just after a reviewer recommended her book over "The Repo Handbook" authored by Choudhry, one of the authors of this book.

It hardly seems sporting to denigrate the excellent work of Ms. Stigum when she is no longer able to set the record straight. Her classic work on the U.S. markets that allows one to deduce the dynamics - and equips one to solve the mathematics - of the global money markets deserves high honors.

The unsportsmanlike behavior doesn't end there, since it seems that books with titles that compete with Mr. Choudrhy's upcoming releases have multiple one-star reviews from obvious pseudonyms and free internet accounts. The books that get the most attention from this stalker are the most commercially successful in the competing areas. Perhaps it is a fan gone mad, or perhaps there is a more obvious explanation.

I would have given this book three stars, but I deducted for bad sportsmanship.

Good overall book on money markets
This is a timely book that covers in great detail virtually all apsects of the markets. Well written and well worth getting.

Cobbled together and poorly written marketing material
Full of factual errors, typos, misspellings and downright silly stuff, this "book" is truly no more than glossed-up marketing material for the company (Lingo Systems) which created it. Its value is accordingly neglible.

Think of this "book" as hard-copy spam which YOU have to pay for.

Buyer beware.

A very thorough introduction to localization
As a translator seeking more profound knowledge of the localization field, I found this book presented all the important issues. Their target is to educate software/web developers and others interested in internationalization & localization. I am recommending this book to such a company I work with, and would also propose it to others who want to know what is all this "Localization" stuff is about. Lingo Systems is a well reputed translation/localization firm in Portland, OR. Another great book for localization specialists is the one by Bert Esselink.

Indians, Settlers, and Slaves in a Frontier Exchange Economy: The Lower Mississippi Valley Before 1783

Author: Daniel H. Usner

Way too long!
Welcome to the incredibly boring world of the Mississippi Valley. If you have to read this book, the last paragraph of each chapter will sum everything up for you. There is also a ten page summary at the end of the book! So if this is required reading, don't sweat it. You can get everything you need out of this book in ten minutes! Please don't waste your time reading the entire book.

Fascinating Study of a Neglected Subject
Usner's Indians, Settlers and Slaves is a highly readable and path-breaking study of economic interactions in southern Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama before the formation of the 'Old South.' Here is a world of great social complexity, and surprising equality, featuring the Upper Mississippi Valley in a time of low settlement density. A must for anyone trying to understand the long-term settlement dynamic of the South.

Don't buy it!
You can't really use it. Huge amount of typos, omissions and errors. Just try to compute rate of return using formula from the book ROR = [(Selling price-1)/Buying price]*100. Buying for 90 and selling for 100 gives you a zero return rate, nice, isn't it. Worst book I've ever had.

Excellent title for self-training into a new job position
As a computer systems administrator, I usually support several applications without getting too involved in their inner workings nor with the business that they run. This book, however, allowed me to understand the bond markets and to be able to interact with computer users with definite knowledge and sure understanding of the business. The book is a cross between a text book and a do-it-yourself with examples. I couldn't have done it with out it. Next I'm ordering An introduction to Derivatives.

Poorly organized
I found the book to be poorly organized. Acronyms were used before they were defined. Concepts were raised and not explained. Examples were incomplete. Simply said, there has got to be a better book to use to prepare for 70-224.

A great study guide not to be missed
This excellent book begins with an overview of new Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server components, which includes installing and upgrading from an existing Exchange Server. It then describes how to troubleshoot an implementation and identify potential problems before they occur. This well organised book also provides expert advice, tips and insight that are not included in the Microsoft Exchange manuals. All in all, this is a great book for those who want know how to install and administer the new Exchange 2000 Server.

Puh-leeze, don't make me laugh
This is a book written by a guy without a college education and no real experience in the financial industry. He was unusually lucky during the bull years of the 90's picking stocks on paper - and I should emphasize "on paper" because his one venture into money management ended disastrously. Since the market crash, his media "empire", along with the investments his company made, have been completely wiped out.

If you want to take investment advice from a notable failure, be my guest. Be aware that whoever wrote the editorial review probably got paid handsomely to write it.

an investment classic
Midas Investing tells the average investor how to prosper in the market. It tells how to use strategies like insider trading, earnings, momentum and updates to beat the market averages. For beginning investors a must read book

Worst investment book I've ever seen
I can't believe this 260 page book has appendices that start on page 117!! Over half of this book is lists of stocks included in the ETF's...easily obtainable on the web. We didn't need to kill trees for this! I thought the author would discuss sector swapping strategies, etc. , but not in this book. This book just contains some basic information about ETF's in today's market.

Excellent Resource for the Investments of the Future
Exchange-Traded-Funds ("Basket Securities")are fast becoming the most important and popular investments in the world. And for good reason. As the authors point out, they offer superior performance to most mutual funds at a tiny fraction of the cost, offer tax advantages in the form of low capital gains distributions, and exposure to over 100 different market indicies. The authors offer a "Holy Grail" strategy of swapping between active and passive management, and a primer on point and figure analysis to boot. Don't look for precise, technical timing formulas, but rather get this book as your definitive reference on ETFs.

Overdone
Way too much information. Not worth the price, I'm afraid. The book was a bit disorganized and seemed to be more of a "crib" of various Freshman English 101 writing courses than anything else.

Excellent business writing reference
This book is a great resource for any busy professional responsible for writing anything--it's easy to use and provides tons of examples to illustrate key writing/grammar concepts. My own copy sits beside my computer and is quite dog-eared... I plan on giving this book to several of my friends as a gift.

Good book for beginers in groupware field (Exchange)
Well this book is little bit "out of date" but it still can provide good introduction in Exchange. Also very helpful tips and tricks can be learned. I think for beginers in Exchange on little bit older platform is almost ideal book for others, on the other side, little bit out of date.
