Geared toward a newbie
This book seems geared for the inexperienced user. Goes too much into needless details about trivial matters. This will help a "career-changer". This book assumes you have no previous experience whatsoever.

Excellent Pocket reference
This book makes an excellent pocket reference for supporting both Outlook clients and Exchange 5.5 Servers. The book is easy to follow with clear step-by-step instructions. I recommend this book as a reference for professionals and new users alike.

Understandable primer on ETFs
While I have been following the growth of ETFs for a some time in the financial media, I've been confused about how to select them and why they're sound investment alternatives. This book provided sound discussions about the various funds and why this is a good investment strategy. The charts were helpful and overall this is a very well written investment book

Want to learn more about ETFs?
I did, and I found that this book gave me a clear and comprehensive knowledge base for this new (at least new to me) investment vehicle.

Initial Grpahics Exchange Specification (v 4.0)
Among many books regarding IGES, this book provides a complete and update-to-date guide to people who do not plan to buy IGES 5.0 at a cost of $100+ from the related associations. I have also read its earlier versions.

A good book
This is a good book on IGES 4.0, the most recent version on which the complete details are available by free. Like its earlier versions on IGES 2.0 and 3.0, the book provides a complete introduction on IGES 4.0. I would like to see it as one of the best books on IGES

The Definitive Textbook on International Financial Markets
A very readable (and detailed if you read those parts) introduction to the subject of international finance.

The standard MBA text book, and one of a handful of finance books recently deemed significant enough to be translated into Chinese.

Also, how can you resist a book with sections on topics such as 'Banking Telecommunications and the Information Superspyway' as well as dry and very detailed math on derivatives trading models.

Other reviews from the great and good:

"This is the best text I have seen in international finance. Good work." Stephen P. Magee, Department of Finance, University of Texas.

"Grabbe had taught several 'Market Wizards' to trade currencies--and this is the book they recommend for understanding currency fundamentals." Dr. Alexander Elder, Director, Financial Trading Seminars.

"This is an original and insightful presentation of material that is often ignored or badly treated in other books." Richard J. Herring, Director, Wharton Program in International Banking and Finance.

"An exceptionally well-written book with detailed coverage of the financial markets in the international scene." Rahul Bishnoi, Department of Finance, University of Wisconsin.

". . . too much detail on markets." [Name Omitted], Tufts University.

"Excellent book . . . teaches students about actual markets and financial instruments..." J. A. Rosensweig, Yale University.

". . . an excellent and lucid analysis of the functioning of the international money market." C. Lawrence, Columbia University.

"Last year I found your book in the Beijing Library (the National Library of China) and had it xeroxed. . . Now I am cooperating with one of my friends to translate it into Chinese . . . China is trying very hard to apply the market mechanism to her economy." Zhang Bin, Industrial & Commercial Bank of China.

"By far the best book available. Well-written, up-to-date & accessible . . ." Asim Erdilek, Case Western University.

"This is an excellent, challenging, well-written book." E. B. Fredrikson, School of Management, Syracuse University.

Living & Working in the Netherlands
Good and helpful book with useful information and case studies. Could have used web address references and pictures, though.

Living & Working in the Netherlands
This book has a lot of useful information, and includes good case studies of different individuals' experiences of moving to the Netherlands. The only thing missing is the reference to web sites for accessing information online, such as apartment rentals. I also would have liked to see some photographs.

Interesting but dated
Krieger, I'm going to guess, didn't really know for sure what kind of book he wanted to write so he kind of included a bit of everything, but gave us not enough of anything.

It would have been great if the book had been written in the same style that Jim Cramer's book revealing how he ran his hedge fund was written, lot's of action and description. Krieger includes some of this, like how he'd spend 18 to 20 hours a day in front of a computer and wonder about his life. But he just didn't get in depth enough.

He covers a lot of history, but again, it was not enough if history was what you were looking for. In my case, it was a bit much, I really didn't need to hear so much about the specific names and dates, I wanted more of the individual trading side of his story, what he did and why. How it worked or didn't.

Of course, this book is totally out of date. For that reason, it is actually even more interesting in a way, as the author has no idea how FX trading will advance.

The book itself offers no specific strategies or advice on investing in the FX market, however, I guess that would make sense as when it was written, only pro's or people with a lot of cash could enter this market.

If Krieger were to decide to write a modern work, covering the topic of trading "inside the trillion-dollar world of currency trading" as the cover states, it would be something I'd love to read. I can't recommend this work currently, without the caveat that the reader realize it's limited value as far as trading in today's market. The history, however, is interesting as is the limited view the author gives us as to his trading. Whether the price of the book is worth paying, I'd recommend it only to the reader that is sure of what they are getting.

Great overview!
This is a great book. Mr.Krieger gives you the history of how foreign currency trading came about. He also provides you insight into how curreny trading work and more importantly how it fails.

He doesn't give specific strategies on how to trade currencies, but he does introduce vocabulary and resources to help you get started. In that respect the book is out of date. There is no discussion on the internet and how that has changed the face of currency trading forever.

This is a good book, a foreign exchange classic that wouldn't hurt any currency trader if he kept a copy on his shelf.

NOT Clash of Civilizations but contact and mutual borrowing
At least until recent times major civilizations gradually shared, adapted, borrowed, and sometimes transfromed material elements of civilization and even ideas. A wonderful overview of history before European colonialism introduces eaxamples and processes for a valuable perspective that should be read by area specialists and others tending to see things from the view of a single nation, faith, or culture. The pace and shock of change increased with modern communications and powerful force producing perhaps a different story from the period after that so well reviewed in this book. One might start with Phillip Curtin and Wolf's "peoples without history' for this later period.

A cultural contact
Jerry Bentley argues against the popular Eurocentric belief that the world began with Christopher Columbus. In other words, before 1492 cross-cultural encounters did not exist. The book analyzes the dynamics of these pre-modern encounters, and seeks to understand cross-cultural conversion. Bentley argues that cultural and religious traditions faced much opposition in foreign territory, and that they rarely won converts unless there were political, social, and economic encouragement. More importantly, was the need for aid from the syncretic process which allowed traditions to gain support in other lands. Bentley offers illustrations to support his argument, however, he often uses sources of bias when they support his argument. Unfortunately, sometimes his arguments seem to contradict each other.

Excellent introductory guide

This is a no-nonsense guide to stock terminologies and concepts. Everything from reading the newspaper quotes, to analyzing companies to options and regular equities is covered. There are also detailed discussions of the author's personal picks and why they succeeded (or didn't, in a few cases). The book also makes it easy to understand the whole process that is going on behind the scenes, which is interesting.

Highly recommended if you are just trying to learn about the stock market. One accidental strength of this book is that it's very old (many of the examples are from the 50s or 60s) and so it manages to get across the concepts without resorting to all the tech-stock hype that you get with modern information. This book really emphasizes the fundamentals which is great for a beginner.

Excellent for the inquisitive starter
Generally, the book is very simple for the beginner, yet very illustrative and complete: the perfect combination for a starter. It is great in helping the reader understand the mechanics of trading stocks. It is also great in illustrating the fundamentals of security analysis. The latter parts, however, highlight the writer's own philosophy in stock investing, and does not cover other equally successful strategies.

Trading Without Fear : Eliminating Emotional Decisions with Arms Trading Strategies

A good book of technical analysis & not trading psychology
The book title is quite misleading. However, this had not reduced the value or quality of this technical analysis tool book.

The author, with simple words, fluently explains about several Volume related technical tools such as Arms Index, Box Ratio and Volume Adjusted Moving Averages VAMA. Market tactics, like how, when and what to sell short and to cover shorts when you are right and when you are wrong, are elaborated with sound writing skill and clear examples.

In short, worth a read.

A Good Book, But Not A Great Book
The market is not driven by logic, i.e. good earnings, good products, etc. but by emotions, such as greed and fear, particularly at the turning points. It is the emotional response to the news, rather than the news itself, which determines the effect. Emotions can be better displayed graphically by volume analysis, especially by using the volume indicators developed by Richard Arms. The market operates as a function of volume, not a function of time.

I personally have had excellent results with Arm's "Volume Adjusted Moving Averages",which gives a far superior early warning signal than other MA's. It was therefore disappointing to find that the book only hints at the techniques to be applied. ( an outstanding book in this regard, is Stan Weinsteins "Profiting in Bull And Bear Markets). Arm's techniques are revolutionary, make a lot of sense, and give a different perspective. The book is worth a read for that alone.

This can make you broke
Who is to determine when prices are low or high. You can scale trade your way to oblivion very easily. The other question is how long is your money. If you have a lot of cash and you are in a market that doesn't fluctuate a lot it may work, but if you are trading the Dow Jones Futures or the S&P Futures, you are going to lose money every time.

After trading for 11 years and writing three books on the subject I can only say that I am not impressed with this strategy and anyone who promotes it as an alternative to technical analysis.

Trading on common sense
Finally there is a well-tested method for investing in commodity futures with reduced risk, based on the logic of fundamental factors rather than the fancy footwork of technical predictions. This book is well-written and clear, and brings us the straight-forward trading system successfully developed by Robert Weist in the 1970's.
