In 1997, the sky fell in Asia. Up until the moment the Thai currency crisis began in May of that year, most pundits could see no end to the "Asian miracle." Now many of those same pundits are predicting a more severe drop while others go so far as to suggest that Asia is entering a "lost decade." The hard truth, suggests Callum Henderson, the Managing Currency Analyst for Asia at Standard & Poor's, is not so dire or dramatic. While Henderson acknowledges that most of the affected countries, particularly Thailand, South Korea, Malaysia, and Indonesia, have a long way to go in transforming their economic systems, the long term outlook for Asia is good. The conditions that help to make high rates of growth possible--high savings rates, low taxation, good education systems, and high productivity--are still in place. What needs changing are the government policies that focused too heavily on exports as the main engine of economic growth.
Henderson traces how and why the currency crisis happened and finds useful parallels between it and the Mexican crisis that began in late 1994. He also offers specific remedies--such as the creation of a domestic bond market in Asia--and points to compelling opportunities in countries with mature financial systems such as Singapore. This is the first comprehensive look at the Asian financial crisis and should be useful to anyone doing business or investing in Asia. --Harry C. Edwards

"Ora tau, Mingkem"(Javanese expression)This book is well written which makes it a usefull tool to improve my English. The content is OK, but nothing worth it to rave about.(Perhaps, the author need to visit Continent of Asia little more often.)
20/20 hindsightThis is a good book -- it tells what we already know. Too bad that the author could not predict any of these events -- but then of course hindsight is always 20/20! I do not think this book helps one to do business in Asia. One major drawback - the author seems to have no understanding of Asian business and seems not to have sullied his conclusions by speaking with any Asians. Read this book for a glimpse of perfect hindsight -- but read also "New Asian Emperors: the Overseas Chinese their Strategies and Competitive Advantages" by George T. Haley for a more fair appraisal of the Asian situation and a terrific understanding of Asian business.
Insightful account for 1997 Asian currency CrisisThe Auther explain the underlining historical events ( e.g. the ups and down of dollar Yen exchange rate) that lead to the boom and bust of the Asian economics. He also account for the 1994 Mexico financial crisis in similar manner. Useful for understanding events shaping the world's economics.

some good information, but better avilable elsewhereThis book has some solid information, but it is all available elsewhere except some studies on Point & Figure profitability. However, tests in 2002 by djbaker suggested that the profitability of these signals had broken down, so i'm not sure how useful this book really is. Like the previous reviewer, i'd recommend reading the Dorsey book first.
Not the best, but has some nuggetsThis book outlines, in excruciating detail, how to manage basic point and figure charts. The only part of the book that can't be found on the internet contains subjects on optimizing the charts and recent (ca. 1994-97) analyses of profitability of the charts.
Read Dorsey first (Point and Figure Charting), and if you want to really get deep, read the last couple chapters of this book.

DisappointingThe book will certainly not help you to Master the FX & Currency Options : It is just a collection of articles by various people - it offers not many insights and does not help you to understand the nitty gritties : in fact I felt that a novice like me could also collect information from a number of sources and cook it up into a book of my own. In short a waste of money and time... sorry to have to say this !
Good for terminology, but no substitute for experienceAs an IT professional who needed to master many facets of foreign exchange rather quickly, I found this book to be helpful in gaining an ear for the terminology and basic concepts, as well as basic jargon of traders. This book might be best used as a companion to a course on the same subject, as it might give you an alternate explanation of the same subjects.

Introduction to Currency Risk (Currency Risk Management Series)
Published in Hardcover by AMACOM (December, 2000)
Amazon base price: $45.00
Average review score:

Careful - this is a very basic overviewThis book is written for the reader who has little or no experience in currencies and currency risk. The information provided is very basic, and not of use to anyone wanting to get more than a superficial understanding of the subject. The title is "Introduction", but I still think it is (only) 100 pages of generalities, not worth the $... I paid!

Rarely have encountered a book this useless. As others have said clearly, this book is a waste of trees, ink and the time of its reader. The "authors" should be ashamed of such blatant hucksterism and poor description of even the most basic aspects of trading. Even if you are a neophyte, look somewhere else.
save your money ...... I have no idea what objective these guys had in mind when they sat down to write this book.... This book is just a bunch of information thrown together (probably downloaded from the internet) and they obviously took no time to put any real effort into this book. I was terribly dissappointed with my purchase of this book.....look elsewhere if you are interested in getting started in forex trading.
fair treatment of topicthis book is very heavy on the operational, functional aspects of fx trading. it is not a book on strategy, but does not claim to be either. for someone looking to get into fx trading, the material here is useful to provide a macro view of the process and the background of the rise in popularity of fx trading, and what to look for in terms of fx service. if you do not get that information from this book, you would be well-served to get it somewhere. if you already have the basics, history, fundamentals, etc. you can find more thorough treatments of strategy elsewhere. this book is a little misleading in the sub-title "from the fundamentals to the fine points". one might expect that the book covers everything one needs to know to mount a trading strategy, when what the book really delivers is "fundamentals and the fine points often overlooked because they are not necessary in determining future success or failure in the fx markets".

DisappointingThis was a huge disappointment. The book is simplistic, disjointed, and offers nothing that even a novice could use. It has a feeling of being written quickly to cash in on the forex trading phenomenon. Look elsewhere for advice in particular anything by Jack Schwager or by Wiley Press, they are usually excellent.
No stars would be a better rating...If you have absolutely no knowledge of the Currency Markets then this book may be useful to you. The subtitle of the book is "Manage Risk and Reward in the Forex Markets by Learning How to:..."
Unfortunately, the overwhelming majority of the book is about Currency Futures and Options but NOT Forex.
Very dissapointed to have bought this book...This book is not worth the paper that it is printed on. Author does not know the subject, and does not offer any information that could not easily have been obtained online for free. Tried to contact author at his website to answer question and never responded. Classic example of take the money and run. Will never buy a book again from these authors nor from Prima Publishing.
