An enlightended and enlightening reader
How To Be Like Jesus: Lessons On Following In His Footsteps is a profound and accessible "self-help" book for Christian men and women seeking to improving themselves by following the example lifestyle example, behavior, philosophy, and teachings of Jesus Christ. Discussing the integrity, virtue, courage, leadership, and focus that Jesus had, and how we can remember Him in order to better embody the traits within ourselves, How To Be Like Jesus is an enlightended and enlightening reader which is enthusiastically recommended for Christians of all denominational backgrounds.

A Classic...
This will make any serious christian's library. Pat Williams really hit the jackpot here. Peaple will demand this book hard-backed and translated into other languages. BRAVO!

AWESOME ! A LIFE CHANGER ! MUST READ !
How to Be Like Jesus: Lessons on Following in His Footsteps is one the the BEST books I have ever read. I have never read this Author before, but came across this book in my local Target store. I loved it so much, I bought another copy and gave it to my friend as a gift!
In this book, Williams and Denney capture Jesus' character in such an awesome way. It is the first book I have come across that tells us so much about Jesus' character as He walked this world. You feel what he felt, you want to love like He loves.
If you want to know Jesus, deeper and more intimately, read this book. I refer to it again and again, when I need a reminder of why I am here.

I thank the Authors for this wonderful book !

It's just great
The book is just great! I used the source code from the CD-ROM for various image processing projects. The algorithms are also very practical if you have to deal with images. The code is neat and ready to compile and run.

Also this book is good on the description of image process and image analysis algorithms. I read the whole book and use it as a reference during my programming. It sits in my bookshelf and I use it almost everyday.

I recommend anybody who wishes to do serious image programming to have this book. It's just great!

(if you want my comments in english please send me an e-mail to innovacl@vtr.net)

Practical is the Word
The title says it all. This book was meant to be used. It is organized around a series of transformations that are performed on an image in going from the raw, captured form to usable result. Each step is well identified so you can go directly to the part you need. The methods and routines used are the author's choices, but they give enough information so you can dig deeper if you suspect you may have special needs.

I particularly liked the illustrations. They aren't fancy coffee table illustrations but they are very clear and pointed to what is being discussed. There are many illustrations that show the effect of the procedures on actual images from a variety of fields.

There is a CD-ROM of the executable programs.

Smalltalk by Example: The Developer's Guide

Nice Explanations of Difficult concepts
I find computer programmers are obscure writers. They don't seem able to express what they mean well. But this is not so for Mr Sharp. I've read online articles on OOP and other books on topics such as encapsulation, polymorphism, and messages and methods, and somehow the ideas just didn't gel. But with Mr Sharp's lovely concrete examples, I finally saw the light. Even if you want to programme in another OOP language I would recommend reading the early parts of this book to understand these concepts clearly.

Excellent
This is the one Smalltalk book that I carry with my laptop. If there's a Smalltalk feature that I haven't dealt with in some time then I'll take a peek at it here before I do anything else. It's great for Smalltalkers who are just about to ascend the steep portion of the language's learning curve - this book will drag you right up to the top!

Relatively very good.
This book very readable and informative if you are working with the VisualWorks SmallTalk interpreter. Most books on Smalltalk are quite useless. Maybe because there are various SmallTalk interpreters with their own basic class structures. I'm still looking for a book like this but twice the size, so that it includes comprehensive GUI analysis, garbage collection, IO handling, etc. However, for what this book sets out to do, it does it very well.

Daily Answers to What Would Jesus Do?
This is without doubt the best daily devotional book I have ever used. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for meaningful, thought-provoking, insighful, and challenging devotionals. The book should be appropriate for a wide range of age levels. We received one as a Christmas gift last year and I am ordering four for gifts to give this year.

Inspiring Devotional
I purchased the book for my 8 year old daughter because I wanted to help her with today's challenges in society. She and I sat down and read the first 15 days of January and she was filled with wonderment! Although we are supposed to only read one day at a time, the flowing quality of the quotes with Scripture and synopsis were easily followed by child and adult alike! Recommended for anyone trying to deal with the madness in today's society and searching for the right answers!

This book could positively change your life (pun intended).
This book of daily devotionals is outstanding. Nick Harrison takes a scripture reading, adds a fitting quotation, and then sums up in a reflection. When I received my copy, I intended to start with that day's devotional and then continue daily as the year progressed. However, I was unable to keep from looking at some of the other entries. They are marvelous - easy and interesting to read, but challenging to put into practice. The quotations have obviously been carefully selected and a section in the back of the book lists the authors and tells us something about them. I would not hesitate to give this book to anyone who wishes to expand his or her spiritual life.

Many good ideas on how to make your training more active
This book has many good ideas on how to make your training more active. For example, it give one ideas on how to turn a mundane one-way lecture into a lively interactive discussion so that the participants not only enjoy the learning, but retain and use the knowledge gained. In addition, there are many activities that a trainer can use to make his or her training more lively. I strongly recommend this book to all trainers.

Wow!
Great book with plenty of practical comments and ideas which allow you to design a truly active session that both, your audience and you, will enjoy.

The best book in training i have read since i am training
I have pleasant meetings with you book Active Training at the last weeks. I am very impressed from it. The book is the best book that has been written about active teaching and learning. The book taught me new active ways as well. The book could help you diagnosis your faults at training and remind you what you forget to do. The book is very friendly. Active Training make it clear that you can be the best trainer if you just work for it. "Active leaning" might hurts but it helps you to grow. I am very grateful about the adventures. The book function like a mirror that tell you where your lipstick is not polished , so you can correct it. The book gave me new insights even I am teaching for 10 years already . The book is like a mentor If you like you can give your hands and travel at a virtual exelent training class.

Handbook of Pictorial Symbols: 3,250 Examples from International Sources

Excellent Resource
An excellent source of images that can be used for making charts, website buttons, newsletters. The designs are clean and can easily be modified. I personally enjoy just looking through the images as they are very inspiring.

A Visionary Book
HANDBOOK OF PICTORIAL SYMBOLS (1976) is an expanded, updated version of Modley's earlier book, 1000 PICTORIAL SYMBOLS (1942). Like its predecessor, the HANDBOOK shows us that a truly pioneering, insightful mind actually can see the way the future looks. // In his introduction, Modley argues that pictorial symbols are in some respects superior to words as a form of communication because they can be understood by people from around the world. In a globalized economy, he predicts, such symbols will ultimately supplant "Men," "Women," "Hotel," "Taxi," and "Camping," among many other words. This is the world we live in now. Modley could have actually strengthened his Case For Symbols by pointing out that such pictures can be recognized by children literally years before they learn to read, and that symbols can be recognized more quickly than words, making them especially useful in situations where fast reactions are necessary (e.g., control panels in airplanes.) // Most of the HANDBOOK is a collection of pictorial symbols, some created by Modley himself and others devised by various bureaucratic organizations, including the International Olympic Committee. If anything stands out about these symbols, it is that Modley's own are richer and more interesting than anyone else's. They have a thirties-modern look that has more charm than anything the British Airports Authority could come up with.

Rudolf Modley
Rudolf Modley, symbolman and graphic designer, was a student of Otto Neurath [ISOTYPE]. One of the best examples of the application of this material is his _A History of the War in Maps, Pictographs, and Words_ [1943] which is out of print but easy to find.

Physics by Example : 200 Problems and Solutions

A great book to really learn Physics!
This is a great book to really learn Physics.

As a previous reviewer has said, the standard is that expected on a Physics course for a 1st Year student at a UK University. However, it has the added utility in that, given the broad range of subjects covered, there will be plenty here both for second and third year students as well as for the interested reader in the sixth form.

Subjects covered include: Classical Dynamics, Gravitation, Special Relativity, Optics, Electromagnetism and circuits, and Thermodynamics. The author has also included problems on Dimensions and basic Statistics as applied to experimental Physics.

What I like best about this book is that you can "dip into it at will" and find something of interest. One worth keeping even after you are done with the exams to which it is geared.

Best problem book ever seen
A jolly marvellous gem of a book. This is about the standard of a first year university physics course in the UK, and apart from teaching you how to solve problems, it teaches you quite a lot of physics too. I learnt physics from this book, and didn't need another text book; and though I was going to keep with computer science, this inspired me to major in physics. Ignore the people who tell you that you need Resnick & Halliday. In real life, Rees is a lovely "gentleman scientist" and a profoundly clear thinker who really does supervise first year undergraduates one-on-one, so the answers have been field-tested and are tailored to his audience. This book can't be recommended too highly. You should avoid cheap imitations like the 2000 solved problems in physics book. Everything here is here for a reason, not to bulk it out. The only thing to bear in mind is that I haven't used it much since my first year. (Long time ago now :-( ) Books like this don't scale well. I think it's worth the investment, but check out your library. From experience, the questions have a way of coming up on the Cambridge Natural Sciences Tripos Part 1a Physics paper :-)

A truly enlightening review of all that is physics.
The role of a physicist as a problem-solver is probably among his most important roles. In fact, anyone having endured and possibly suffered through a college level physics curriculum must realize that success as a physicist depends crucially on the individual's ability to solve challenging yet practical problems on paper. It is to this end that I recommend a truly enlightening book by W.G. Rees titled Physics by Example: 200 Problems and Solutions. Covering all major areas of an undergraduate physics curriculum, with clear exposition and creative solutions to challenging problems, this book is bound to make its reader a problem-solver of the first rank. The problems have been selected to illuminate the most fundamental concepts in physics. The solutions are presented in a systematic and rigorous fashion that does not rely on intuition alone. The examples presented are typical of problems on final examinations for undergraduate courses. For those seriously pursuing the study of physics, this book serves beautifully to both solidify your understanding of physics and to test your preparation for exams.

Decent book
As a programmer new to RPG 4 and programming for the AS/400, I needed help with subfiles. This book proved easy to read (I can't say I've read it through, but enough to get what I needed) and there are lots of helpful code examples. I used the sample program for a page-at-time subfile application almost verbatim to get started on one of my programs, which saved a considerable amount of time and effort. Overall this book has been quite useful for me.

Excellent learning tool...
Book really explains subfiles in terms anyone can understand. The CD/ROM has sample code that you can use immediately as "models" to develop your own programs. Author does an excellent job of explaining how subfiles work. But if you are like me, you will develop several subfile "skeleton" programs for your own future use. That's where the examples can really help...

THE subfile book for AS/400 RPG programmers
This is THE subfile book for AS/400 RPG programmers.

Mr. Vandever approaches the subject with a sense of humor, lots of examples, and excellent technique. The examples are written in ILE RPG IV (RPG III programmers will find the book useful, as well), and do a nice job of showing off recent RPG IV enhancements by incorporating them in the examples.

I have developed lots of subfile programs, and read the other books on the subject. This is by far the best treatment of the subject that I have seen.

Best Basic Project Management Book for Product Development
I've read a number of project management books over the years, and very few of them fit at all in a product development environment. This book fits and matches product development very well. In fact, in my opinion, it is the best basic project management book on the market currently for application in product development. This shouldn't be a surprise though since Mickey Rosenau understands project management practice in the field of product development. Beware of the other authors who claim that they understand product development and then apply a traditional approach to project management. Project management in product development is different, and a traditional approach to project management doesn't work in product development. Stay away from the traditional management approach and get this book instead.

Nice book, easy to read, and ready to put in practice.
Excellent book, a good guide to improve project management

A Teaching Book
This book not only offers excellent writing exercises, it also includes the authors' examples so you can get a feel for how to make best use of the techniques described. I especially enjoyed the biography data sheets which help you to better understand your characters (or yourself!). This is a "teaching" book. Here, do this, it says, but goes on to show you how, step by step, which many books don't bother to do. The Writer's Path will keep you busy, entertained, and hopefully, writing better and better pieces.

So many reasons to use this book
The Writers Path is a not just about writing. It is also about reflections, healing and connecting to oneself and others. It serves not only the seasoned and blossoming writer, but also those looking for a sensitive structure to explore personal insight and creativity through writing.

As one who teaches a college class about the creative process as well as being a creative arts therapist I have found invaluable tools in the Writers Path. The exercises, essays and examples help students and clients alike connect with their spirit, their story. We all have a story to tell. Creativity is a great healer. Having methods of tapping into it though writing has proved insightful and therapeutic for my students and clients who claim "they are not writers". They have explored some of the techniques in the Writers Path to create some profound and touching stories.

I was first attracted to the book because I wanted toexpand my writing skills. I was pleasantly surprised to find it so divers in its application. It should be on every creative writing class syllabus. Those looking for creative group process ideas will find them in this book. Walton and Toomay present a beautifully written guidebook for ones creative journey.

My Path
The majority of "The Writer's Path" consists of exercises and examples, tied together by bits of wisdom, suggestions, and experiences the authors have had. There are plenty of suggestions for using these exercises in partner, class, or group writing, which makes them much more widely applicable than most other books. Also, when I read other books I often shrug at many of the exercises, finding them a little less than inspiring. Most of this book's exercises come with variations, suggested places to start, ways to take them further, and so on, and I found them more interesting.

The exercises range from "jump starts" (quick little things) to "letter forms" (exercises you can do with postcards and letters), "style" (exercises to help you work on your voice and style), "character" (things like biography data sheets, character explorations), and more. If you only read one chapter from this book, though, read the "story" chapter. The exercises in random story structures, abstract story structures, natural story structures, poetic outlines, and so on are intriguing, fun, and inspiring.

The examples are my only quibble with the book. They take up a lot of space, and I wasn't terribly interested in them. I do think they serve one important purpose, however. The writer who is afraid to just cut loose and allow herself to write something silly or even--heaven forfend--bad can see that it's okay to not write masterpieces here, and that can be fairly liberating.

This would be a particularly valuable book for writing teachers, I believe. The authors have done quite a bit of teaching, and they share many of the insights they've learned. So whether you're teaching creative writing to high schoolers or some of your adult neighbors, in a classroom setting or an informal writers' group, you could learn a lot from this book.
