Great information
I have been a senior executive in the mortgage business for over 25 years and I would recommend this book to anyone considering the business. I found this book to contain in a concise and organized manner all the information a new or seasoned Loan Officer would need to be successful in the mortgage origination business. I advise any manager to consider providing a copy to each of their originators.

I use it as a textbook for my college class
I am writing this review in response to the concerns of one reviewer who didn't like the $55 price. This is the first review I have ever written on amazon.com, or anywhere else for that matter. I had a choice of many other books to use as a textbook for the class I teach at Montgomery College on mortgage loan origination, and I chose this one. At first, I, a stingy Yankee, was taken aback by the $55 price, and concerned for my students who have to deal with high textbook prices, but when I examined the book I was amazed at how much there was in it, information not available in such form anywhere else. There were a few other manuals and texts that I could have chosen for the class, including some that were hundreds of pages long, but they were full of fluff and consisted simply of compiled information. They were four pounds of hamburger; this book is 12 ounces of filet mignon. It is is focused, focused, focused on providing information mortgage loan originators actually need. It has helped my students start lucrative careers and has helped me teach a very popular course; I even use it when I teach private classes for some of the biggest mortgage lenders in the nation. I have been a mortgage loan originator since 1988 and I have never seen such a valuable book. I was amazed - even embarrassed - at how much I learned about the business, even after 15+ years originating loans. With information, its not the price, it's the value, and this book is incredibly valuable. There are four pages in the book that I require my students to copy and keep with them; these pages alone are worth hundreds of dollars, and contain on four pages information that is spread across hundreds of pages of industry publications. I encourage anyone considering the business, and even anyone in the business already, to buy this book. Feel free to call me at home at 301-563-6225 and I will be happy to discuss the book - that is how strongly I feel about it's value. Not one of my hundreds of students has ever been anything less than enthusiastic about the book. I even discuss the price of the book at the beginning of the first class, and tell the students that I thought, at first, that it was too high. Then, I encourage them to evaluate it over the course of the class, and tell me if they think it is overpriced. Not one of them has EVER told me so, nor has anyone in the mortgage business ever told me so. If it were up to me, this book would be required reading for every mortgage loan originator in the country. If mortgage loan originators read this book and absorbed the information in it, this would be a much easier business to be in for everyone involved. It has been approved by a number of states for the instruction of mortgage loan originators, as well as numerous community colleges. Sorry to ramble on like this and sound like a shill for the book, but as an originator and an instructor I wanted to address the cost issue. Some people know the price of everything and the value of nothing. Ignore the price here, and look at the value. Do that, and I believe you, too, will see what I am talking about.

THE most comprehensive Loan officer training book in print!
Thomas Morgan's The Loan Officer's Practical Guide to Residential Finance is THE most comprehensive loan officer training book in print today. Chock full of every single aspect of the mortgage origination process, I truly recommend this book to every amateur as well as novice loan officer I know!

The author has writen a very general book full of a lot of useless information on the Small Business Administration programs - much of it is out of date according to my CPA.

The Role of the Paris Club in Managing Debt Problems
Published in Paperback by Princeton Univ Intl Finance (December, 1985)
Author: Alexis, Rieffel
Amazon base price: $10.00

Role Paris Club Glossed
This book is a succinct statement of the role and funcitoning, policies and procedures of the Paris Club as distinct from other clubs such as the London Club. For the most part I would recommend it with the qualification that readers should do more research on a major part of this book, namely, its discussion of conditionality. Conditionality is a set of criteria to which a borrowing nation must comply, in whole or in part, in order to be treated as "creditworthy". The 'prime directive' of official banks such as the IMF and World Bank is not necessarily to close the gap in a nation's balance of payments, not to remove the deficit, but rather to transform, littlt by little, command economies [i.e., socialist ones] to market economies. Conditionality as stated in the book under review leaves out the main conditions with which a borrowing nation must comply: elimination of consumer subsidies; deregulation of imports and exports, privatization of public sectory enterprizes, elimination of tariffs on imported goods, making it easy for foreign firms to settle into a borrowing nation, making bank interest rates mover closer to the rate of inflation, devaluation of the nation's currency. The treatment of 'conditionality' in this book glosses over the meat on this table. I did not expect this gloss because the book came under the auspices of Princeton University's Department of Economics. I was quite disappointed. The real role of official banks is political - not economic. Economics used politically is what this global world is all about, and Princeton should not gloss over this aspect of transnational development in a post socialist world.

An Actual Balanced Account
This is neither an expose nor a ballyhoo (despite the subtitle, "Talent On Loan From God", which is a phrase Limbaugh often applies to himself) but is straightforward account of an intelligent but aimless man who eventually wanders into the role of the biggest thing in talk radio.

If it has a fault it's that it's too dry, but you'll find a lot of interesting events that foreshadow his future career as the right's spokesman. For instance, how he was fired from his DJ job for contantly playing the Rolling Stones'"Under My Thumb", probably the most misogynistic rock song of all time.

"Essentials", but not much more
I expected something a bit more in-depth rather than a primer. There really isn't much here that wasn't covered in each of the, sort of generalized, real estate practice books I purchased for about the same price.

I was severely disappointed with the short shrift given to most of the topics and pity those poor souls who paid list price for this book.

Hard to believe this is a college level book
It was hard for me to believe that this was a book used in a college level Real Estate Finance class. It was simple minded and for a finance book, I found it vague. Maybe the authors were trying too hard to "dumb it down" for the masses, but please! If it is a college level textbook, one would expect a little more meat.

Essentials of Real Estate Finance
This is a great book for anyone who is interested in learning real estate finance from the beginning without a finance background. The book provides readers with a wide coverage of fundamental finance principles. Readers will get a good sence of the current finance industry trends from this book. There are many easy to understand examples given under the "In Practice" narrative feature.

Don't waste your money
I was charmed by this book's promise of "thousands of top scholarships" but was soon very disappointed. After looking through 50 or so scholarships in the book, I noticed that many of them were repeated. For example, on one page they had the same scholarship listed three times! I feel like I purchased a book that contains only a few listing repeated over and over again. Save your money and search the internet for scholarships.

Thanks!
I bought this book hoping that I would be able to find one or two scholarships. I ended up finding several and the result was that more than half of my tution was paid for even before I had to write my first check. It is very easy to follow. You find the scholarships that apply to you (so therefore the scholarship might be listed in more than one catagory) and if you met the requirements you send off for the information. Very easy!

Total garbage
Thinks he knows everything. Full of hot air.

If you don't have anything nice to say, come sit next to me
Seidman uses the above quote in the chapter where he apportions blame for the S&L fiasco. This book contains a lot of entertaining passages, and considering it is a book about finance written by an accountant, that in itself makes the book unusual.

I found the book to be well written, and very up-front about the authors biases. It was refreshing that the hidden agenda was right out in the open for everyone to inspect, just the way the author maintains that good government should operate. As Seidman states in his introduction:

"Why write about these experiences?" Of course, I share the goals of most memoirists: to immortalize my contribution to society; even scores with my enemies; provide financial security for my old age, confirm the taxpayers worst suspicions about their government; and generally leave a record of my adventures for the benefit of future historians".

How to Become Mortgage Free in ten years or less
The book is very basic and works more in theory than in the real world of finance...especially in todays economic environment. The strategies really only work if you take the extra payments and invest it in the stock market. Thats too much risk for most. Best advice is still to prepay your mortgage and have peace of mind!

The book sells for $189???? Overpriced is a huge understatement. What nerve! Its worth about $20 retail.

How to become mortgage free in ten years or less without ext
This book has really helped me understand the financial aspect of buying a home. The book is very easy to read and is divided into easy to understand sections which you will undoubtedly enjoy. Mappa definitely knows what he is talking about!
