Laughable fiction
Another laughable piece of anti-American fiction. This would be a great book if only any of the sources of information were verifiable. They're not, and this is fiction. I'd sooner believe that Clinton raped Juanita Broadderick.

The wild imaginings of a lunatic author, at best.

No Surprises Here
Where to begin? As I tallied up all of the mind-boggling abuses of power, criminal activity and greed I became filled with a deep sense of dread. I came to the realization that if only 1% of this book is true then this is a president (a family) that should be behind bars for a very long time. And we are all in some very serious trouble - unless you're Kenny-boy Lay.

Dubya's stolen election, lies to start a war and the rampant cronyism plaguing our government today give all the more credence to this awesome work and further demonstrate just how desperately ruthless and vicious the Bush family is. For those of you who dismiss this tome as fiction - there's a reason the first few publishers wouldn't touch it. Here we go again - this time it's global!

And you thought Clinton was bad!!
In comparison to George Bush (not Dubya) Clinton looks like a choir boy!! Everybody should read this book. Pete Brewton outdid himself! Extremely informative and well researched.

Mention "college" to the parent of any teen, and stress lines deepen around the mouth while a panicked, wild look forms around the eyes. College tuitions get more and more expensive, and college savings, if such exist, rarely keep pace. But while the kid is busily applying him or herself to SAT preparations (in order to get into a more expensive university), the parent who is going to fork out the money would be well-advised to browse through Cassidy's Scholarship Book. Assistance is out there for the informed applicant. Celebrities like Bill Cosby, Eddie Murphy, and Oprah Winfrey have made big money available for students at Spellman, Howard, and Morehouse Universities. Specific niche scholarships are offered by the Contess of Munster Musical Trust (for Commonwealth citizens studying music) and the International Society of Arboriculture pays the way for students of horticulture and entomology. Children of footwear industry workers can apply for funds from Two/Ten International Footwear Foundation, and there's money for the descendants of the signers of the Declaration of Independence, too. There are scholarships for women and scholarships for men, scholarships based on academic performance and on sports prowess, and for any number of intended majors and careers. This is the best book to drive home the lesson that research pays. --Stephanie Gold

A waste of money, in my opinion
This book is awful. I found no scholarhips applicable to me in the entire book, and it is full of bizarre scholarships that almost no one could apply for. I thought this book was for college-bound high school students and college students. However, most of the scholarhips are for things like mothers over the age of 30, graduate students, playwrights, etc.

The best feature of the book was that it listed scholarships by major - science, english, etc. However almost all the scholarships listed were specific for a certain reason - for instance, students of Sacred Heart Academy or residents of Montgomery County. These scholarships are easily accessible for those people that qualify for them, such as at local libraries and schools, and are not helpful to include in a book for students all across America, only a small percentage of whom could qualify for those certain scholarships by living in that area.

I was excited to get this book and thought it would help me find some college money. However it was absolutely useless to me and I wish I wouldn't have spent my money on it - I don't even know anyone I can give it to that would benefit from any scholarships listed in it. If you are a college-bound student or are already in college and are looking for scholarships and loans suited to you, I don't recommend this book. ................................. Although this book has many many scholarships, they are so diverse and hard to qualify for that it would be better if they only had even a few that would match most students.

Pretty good
If you're in need of a scholarship, this is a pretty good book to look at. It does have some scholarships, grants, internships, and loans that most likely wouldn't apply to almost anyone. Of course, there are some that apply to almost everyone of every color and faith. Definitely get this book if you're in need of a book filled with private-sector scholarships.

Anyone looking for scholarships should buy this book!
I gave The Scholarship Book to my nephew in high school, who wants to be an artist, and he found a lot of places with contests or awards that he could apply to. There is a lot of good information, and I recommend it to anyone going to college.

Basic Banking
I purchased this book to gain a better understanding of the industry as a whole. It served it's purpose! I am new to working in banking and I will have to learn how my bank operates, but now I can ask the right questions to speed up the process.

Basic introduction to banking
Includes a lot of information about banking but not in much detail. A handy reference afterall. But for the folks who want more in depth knowledge into banking, go for a larger volume.

Given all the choices out there -- choose another book
I bought this book in hopes of understanding better how to buy my first home. It did in fact help with a number of questions I had (though many remain). But what really hurts this book is the author's confusion with math. Several of the formulae in the book are just wrong (like how to calculate your debt-to-income ratio). His comparisons of various loan options are also useless. I'll give two examples: (1) he compares ARMs to fixed-rate mortgages during a historical period during which interest rates dropped like a rock, so it was already clear which would look better; (2) in another example he prefers a 30-year, low point but high rate loan to a 20-year, high point but low rate loan based solely on the monthly payments -- no mention of the relative paydown of the loan's principal. There was a lot of useful info in this book, but since there are so many options in this genre, I would suggest you look elsewhere. I am returning this book tomorrow.

Great Help!
When I purchased this book I had very little knowledge about real estate or lending. After reading the book, successfully buying my first home and now preparing to buy my first rental property, I must say that Mr. Eilers book is truly amazing. I have followed his methods, formulas and tips and tricks to the tee and they ALL work! My realtor even borrowed the book until she could puchase one of her own. I have now purchased and read four real estate books and none were nearly as helpful, complete or as easy to understand as this book. Not only does the book help with real estate, it is also very helpful in the area of finance. Thanks for helping me buy my first and second homes.

Buying a home is not like buying groceries--it's a complicated exercise that most of us will do only few times in our lives. And given that a home is most often the biggest financial transaction we'll ever make, it makes sense to get help, but not necessarily from your friendly real estate agent. That's just one of the many tips that Alfred and Emily Glossbrenner offer in the Smart Guide to Buying a Home. The authors provide a solid foundation for prospective home buyers, and consider everything associated with buying and owning a home, such as finding a mortgage, negotiating, inspections, using a real estate agent, taxes, and the costs and the risks of home ownership. The book also considers how to evaluate property and assess just how much house you and your pocketbook can really afford. An excellent primer for first-time homebuyers. --Harry C. Edwards

This book is great for the first time buyer...
Smart Guide is filled with useful informatation you ought to know before you start looking around for your first home. From finding a lender, finding a mortgage, picking an agent, negotiating the deal, and understanding all of the closing costs, this book tells you everything you need to know about buying a home. Just bought my first home this weekend!

All the information you need to buy a house
If you ever want to find out the grueling process of buying a home, this book will tell you all the gory details from budgeting your expenses to find out how much house you can afford to paying all those crazy closing costs. There are some tips and reminders scattered throughout the book. The chapter on negotiating with references to "The Art of War" is going alittle too far...the authors had way too much while writing that chapter.

Could have contained more secrets
Pretty much everything that was said in this book was in my first choice (Invest in Yourself: Six Secrets to a Rich Life). If I would have known the book as going to be more than 80% tables, I would have never ordered it. Most of the information contained in this book can easily be found on the web. Needless to say, I was very disappointed with this book. I guess that's what happens when you buy online as opposed to in a bookstore. I could have flipped through this book in 20 or 30 seconds and realized that most of the pages were tables that needed more detail. What I found funny is that I received this book 2 whole days before I received my first choice and that's because my first choice supposedly was shipped before my second choice.

Not much of a secret
Here is what this book says. Paying your mortgage off faster than your payment schedule will save you tens of thousands of dollars. True, but what is the time value of that money you spent on your mortgage? Could you have "made" more in the stock market or somewhere else?

Yet the author belabors the point ad nauseam, giving examples about how much you can save paying a little more per month.

Basically, he does not give the full story. When you pay off your loan early, you are also paying a net higher interest rate. Scim this book at the bookstore. The best secret is not buying this book!

Good Advice!
This book provides excellent advice on what were until now--to many--secrets of the financial industry.

Just a note on a previous review: many banks say they will NOT accept prepayment. I know of a way that every bank approves up, that saves homeowners thousands in unnecessary interest and cuts years from their mortgage. I'll gladly call or email anyone who sends an email on this subject.

Bride on Loan
Published in Hardcover by Harlequin Mills & Boon (June, 2001)
Author: Leigh Michaels
Amazon base price: $22.95
Average review score:

Depth missing.
Caleb Turner was known for his inventions and his "bimbo of the month" relationships. When Sabrina Saunders causes him to badly sprain his ankle, Caleb blackmails her into protecting him from his hordes of women. Close quarters cause new feelings in Caleb: possessiveness, jealousy, and love.

Second book in a trilogy about the owner-operators of Rent-a-Wife, an agency designed to help busy career people with mundane chores. Not as good as HUSBAND ON DEMAND, the changes in Caleb's views of women and relationships are not shown in a convincing manner. More could have been done with Sabrina's family relationship.

Cute, but not a blockbuster.
Caleb Tanner is a millionaire playboy who can't keep his hands off women, even in trouble. Not a single simpering female has managed to tame him...till came Sabrina Saunders. This charming and at times funny story is about a playboy doing the impossible, falling in love with one woman for life. The heroine is bold, sassy and intelligent, and will appeal to many readers. It's got all the ingredients of a good book charm, humor, and attraction. The only thing missing from the is depth of emotion... Leigh doesn't explore the inner souls of the characters, which is usually what readers look for. But if you like light hearted books, then this is the one for you.

Super series!
What a lovely tale. Definitely get the other two books as well--HUSBAND ON DEMAND and WIFE ON APPROVAL--and curl up with these three charming heroines (and heroes!) on a snowy day.

Don't waste your Money on this
I did not find this book helpful at all. I guess I should have known better, but I thought maybe it would have one piece of useful information. It didn't.

Helpful for me!
This book lists sources of funding or assistance for both profit and non-profit organizations. Naturally, most of these funds are allocated to community development, social issues, conservation and economic development. Each listing includes relevant information such as the contact person, address and phone number, proposal deadlines, information on amounts previously given, and the required qualifications for receiving the funds. Resources can be in the form of cash awards, endowments, continuing support, grants, loans, matching funds, consulting services or technical assistance for operating budgets, seed money, emergency funds, building, equipment, research or special projects, for example. Most sources are restricted to certain geographical regions and these are categorized in the book under its respective state. However, there are some programs which fund national and international projects and these are categorized by topic, such as: agriculture, finance, health, conservation and real estate.

It explains ways to receive money if you own a small bus.
This book is a great refrence for the many small business owners who are looking to expand on their great businesses. This is a great book in a overall perpective. I belive that this book will help a lot of business people out. I will gladly thank you for making this book for small business people like my self.

Real Estate Loan Brokerage: How to Become a Successful Mortgage Broker
Published in Plastic Comb by P F S Publications (May, 1991)
Author: Richard B Partain
Amazon base price: $40.00

Fairly thorough, but outdated
I purchased this book during the start-up phase of becoming a new mortgage broker. Being new to the industry, I was looking for a comprehensive treatment of the subject. While this book did a fair job of covering the subject, it does show it's age. There have been vast changes in this industry over the 12 years since it's publication. There is no coverage of automated underwriting or LOS software - both of which are critical to success in the industry today.

So while you will get a broad introduction to the profession from this book, it will certainly not give you everything you need to know to become a successful mortgage broker. There are better publications out there, but unfortunately they are hard to find.

Excellent Resource
This book is an excellent step-by-step guide for the beginner in learning the steps necessary for closing a loan. The author has organized the chapters in a way that takes the reader from the beginning to the end of the loan process, detailing each important step along the way. I'm sure it will become a useful reference manual for various questions that pop up.

The only problem I had with the book was that it did not include much in the way of marketing/lead generation tips. From an origination standpoint, it will serve as an excellent resource for me.

Real Estate Loan Brokerage : How to Become a Successful Mort
I purchased this book last year and it has become more than informative, I have created an entire training manual around it. It is a must read for the up and coming loan officer.

It's working for me
I'me new to real estate investing and I found this book very helpful. In particular, I enjoyed the sections on investing, financing and taxes.

If you want to invvest successfully in real estate, I highly recommend this book.

In fact, I wouldn't invest without it!

In my opinion ( a great book)
I have read many real estate books and found most say pretty much the same thing. This book by Dolf DeRoos is different.

You won't find 1,000+ pages of worthless drivel like some financial books, just meaty, powerful stuff that really works.

You'll want to add this one to your must read list. Great book.

Want $25,000 Income Per Month?
My wife bought the book for me as a Christmas gift in 2002. Wow! This is by far the best book I've read on how to build wealth using real estate. Dolf clearly explains how buying property is one of the most common wealth building tools used by the rich and famous. Quick question. Do ya think Donald Trump makes billions of dollars working for someone else? No! It's from owning real estate. Lot's of real estate that has appreciated over time. On a personal note, because of this book, real estate has started to provide me a with a steady monthly pay check for the rest of my life. In today's world, no JOB can offer that.

In the spring of 2003 I refinanced an existing property for over $37,500 and reinvested it into two multi family homes. I never thought of my equity as tax free investment capital. Each home has a positive cash flow of over six hundred dollars per month. After property management fees, I net over nine hundred dollars per month. I plan on buying twenty eight more properties within the next ten years using what I learned from this book. My goal is to earn over $25,000 per month in positive cash flow from my business. As Dolf points out, owing properties should be treated as a business if you want to succeed. To my ears, that's good sound advice.

My only criticism of Real Estate Riches is that Mr. De Roos spends the first third of the book trying to convince the reader that real estate is the BEST investment of All Time.
Personally, I still enjoy selling call options on stocks and profiting handsomely in an up or down stock market. I will say that adding real estate to my over all investment portfolio is one of the best things I have ever done.
