This book was obviously not written by an english speaking author. This is the only technical text book I have ever read that has so many problems but provides NO solutions. The examples in this book skip too many steps, and the author needs a basic revision in the English language.

I have several problems with this book. First, the author does not provide numerical answers to the problems or the drill problems. This makes it very difficult to verify if the problem was solved correctly. Second, the examples are poorly written. It fails to answer many what-if questions one comes up with when reading the chapters. Third, the index is poorly written and makes it difficult to look up information.

1. This is a textbook for 3rd year electrical engineering students. Most people who read this book HAVE TO read it becuase it is a required text. The classic captive audience.

2. The author does not skip any more steps in his (her?) math derivations than other, similiar books I have had to use. You're a 3rd year EE student: suck it up, kiddo. Break out some printer spew and a #2 pencil; I'm sure you can get from here to there.

3. Many authors provide numeric solutions to SOME of the homework problems. ALL OTHER AUTHORS provide numeric answers to DRILL (PRACTICE) problems so that the reader can see if s/he has got the hang of it. THIS AUTHOR did not give answers to ANY of problems, drill or homework, in the book. This limits the effectiveness of the book as a teaching tool. It would be nice if answers to the drill problems could be posted on the internet (Hint, hint.)

4. The authors language is adequate for the discussion of the subject matter -- three phase power, transformers, induction motors, etc.

5. The book is too damn expensive.

I needed a complete, up to date battery reference book. With a publishing date in 2000 and a hefty price tag, I thought The Battery Reference Book by T.R. Crompton would be just the ticket but I was wrong.

I admit that there is a lot of information in this book about yesterday's battery technology but look for modern Lithium Ion and Lithium Polymer and you wont find it. Since I can't find this information I worry that other, emerging technologies are coming, and I won't find out about them in this book either.

I have to blame myself for making the mistake of buying this book. I should have researched more. If you are looking for a battery book that includes Lithium Ion and Lithium polymer, skip this one.

Good overview of battery chemistry and types. However very little up-to-date info on NiMH and lithium ion batteries.

This book may be accepted as a transition from analyitical to numeric analysis. But its flow charts and mathematical aspects aren't emphasized enoughly. Besides, new versions of technical computing languages came out, like Matlab 5. Matlab is very easy to understand, so the matlab files can be used for a new edition. If the flow charts, input-output relations, mathematical basis, more explaining graphs, figures and graphics were presented, the book would be more useful. The analytical version of it (Veinott,1956) is more understandable, but of course not suitable for computer applications. Hoping for the Matlab version. Best Regards.

This book can be accepted as a transition from analytical analysis to computer aided analysis. Though, it is not as understandable as its analytical version. (Theory and design of small induction motors,1956). Firstly mathematical aspects aren't emphasized enoughly. Second, its fonts are not suitable for a mathematical book. Besides Computer technology is rapidly developing and some new softwares (like Matlab) came into the sciene. Nowadays Matlab is nearly a commodity for technical computing. I think a new version including Matlab Files will be useful. Analytical essentials and the inputs-outputs of the modules may be reminded briefly. Hoping for the new edition. Best Regards.

Examples are easy to follow. The first chapters are almost spoon-fed. However organization is whack. The book is designed to be used from cover to cover - no skipping chapters. The index is horrible. In most texts, topics are arranged by chapter in the CONTENTS section and all topics are arranged by alpha order in the INDEX. In this book, it's inconvenient to lookup "model editing" for example. One has to look in each chapter to find which takes a lot more time than scanning an alphabetical listing.

It's a great book for school people, but not for an engineer.

Save yourself time and money, buy the oem shop manual if available. There are not many specific "generating sections" covered and not alot of detail in what is covered. Engine section is ok.

for my particular generator, i DID NOT learn anything that i hadn't read in the owners manual about troubleshooting the generator portion. it's still not generating power. most of the book is on the engines of these generators. i know how to fix engines.

This book give a lot of general information of different CMP operations and it is good for those who want to appear to be very knowledgable in CMP. But, as I say, it is too general. Quite a good overview but boring.

A once excellent text on electrical systems for facilities managers or building systems engineers. Still has much to offer as a basic information/theory text. However much has changed in the requirements for electrical systems in buildings since 1988. From a practical standpoint a rewrite is in order. A companion, up to date National Electrical Code is suggested when using this text.

Initially, the title of the book makes it seem exciting. However, all topics are covered very briefly and the book assumes the reader has a large repository of knowledge (so much so that, in fact, those who possess that knowledge would not actually need this book!). Coverage of alterntative market forms is weak. Unfortunately, this book is continued testimony to the fact that Brits still live in their experience, oblivious to the incredibly cutting edge work being done in this sector in other parts of the world.

For a science text of this type, Sato's book is unusually difficult to read. Its awkward, imprecise, often ambiguous wording is distracting--I find myself asking, "What does he mean?" more often than I ask, "How does that science work out?" That said, the book is reasonably thorough (covering precisely what the title says it does) and a patient reader (fresh graduate student or ripe undergraduate) might learn a thing or two. There are no problems (or solutions). The figures are poor.

I found this book to be extremely basic with very short chapters. The contents were good topics for learning but very little was presented. A journey industrial maintenance electrician/electronics technician would find no challange to reading this except for the two manufacturer's schematics.

This book is strictley for the novice.
