Good for young kids
This is a good book for the young age kids. It gives them a start on how electrity and batteries work. Also, it intrigues them to learn more about modern electricty and batteries.

A technician-training level manual
The study guide and lab manual is not written on a level suitable for most college electrical engineering courses, I believe, since it is rather mechanical in its procedures, which are of the form "do this, measure that" but do not require much understanding of the underlying theory. Although there are a few questions accompanying the "procedures" these do not probe deeply enough, in my opinion, and it would be quite possible for a student to perform the experiment and fill in all the blanks without understanding much of what s/he did. There are "review" sheets preceeding each experiment which touch on the theory, but again in a mechanical way. It does not seem to me that the experiments would provide any opportunity for creativity or real *experimentation* for students, and therefore the authors' goal of "stimulating your interest in elecricity and electronics" is unlikely to be met.

Review for E&M text (Duffin)
A reasonably good text for undergraduates but one needs a certain amount of patience to go through the lengthy explanantions in certain chapters. It should be just an early guide to some ideas on electicity and magnetism, no more. Intermediate level readers should then proceed to refer to Milford and Christy and then to Classical Electodynamics(Jackson).

My Review
I think this book is very resourceful for people who would like to learn about electricity because it has a lot of stuff you need to know about electricity.

Tough to read
This text is very tough to read and follow. The style of the authors is tough to adjust to. And what can be explained easily, the authors go round and round and finally when the arrive at the explanation, you have already closed the book because you have a headache, or your head is whirling.

Use this if you have lots of time, and you can understand abstract and abstruse writing.

Average reference book.
This book is huge - but a lot of the details are not practical to the average electrical engineer. How many details of junction boxes and fittings do we need ? About 20% of the details are worth having. However, the book has good technical disussions.

The sample specifications are useful as a commerical grade "sheet" specification, but not full book specification. Please note that the book says that you can write for an electronic copy of the specifications included in the book. Sad to say, the author has passed away since it was written and his firm does not provide the specifications on disk.

If you are looking for a good electrical power reference book - look to Bob Hickey's Electrical Engineers Portable Handbook.

The book is a survey of a large number of PI defects
A large number of photoinduced phenomena associated with the photoinduced (PI) defects creation have been reported in the past. Besides the fundamental interest, these phenomena are practically important due to their influence on the performance and stability of semiconductor devices such as solar cells and laser diodes. The book by Redfield and Bube gives a comprehensive review of the subject. To my opinion the authors review the most important PI defects in crystalline and amorphous semiconductors focusing on the existing models without mathematical complications and emphasizing the need for more sophisticated many electron models.

The authors start with a review of the basic definitions and terminology of metastable defects. Some of the concepts in this chapter were discussed too shortly and it would be much more efficient if more details were given in particular to the audience of new comers to the field and for graduate students. Chapters 2 and 3 deal with defects in crystalline semiconductors with particular attention to DX and EL2 centers in III-V compounds. The bulk of these chapters is devoted mainly to PI defects as observed with electrical properties such as photoconductivity, resistivity and Hall mobility. Photoinduced changes in the optical properties of crystalline semiconductors associated with the defects creation are numerous, but they were ignored in these chapters and the topic is actually missing. A detailed review of the properties of photoinduced defects in hydrogenated amorphous silicon and their kinetics is given in chapters 4 and 5. These two chapters are well organized and informative. In chapter 6, a summary of PI defects in other amorphous semiconductors are summarized. In certain cases such as chalcogenide glasses, this summary is too short when compared to the amount of work done on PI defects in these materials. The last chapter summarizes the effect of PI defects in devices. This chapter is well written and provides a reasonable summary of the main effects, although the book is oriented more to the material aspects than to devices.

In summary the book is a survey of a large number of PI defects in semiconductors. The subject matter is generally well-organized, although many topics were mentioned too briefly and some significant information has been ignored. The amount of references is reasonable, however it is far from being complete and the book has an index. In my opinion the book can be invaluable as an introduction for those who are new to the field and for graduate students.

Photovaltaic by Dr. Messanger from FAU
This book has a lot of good information on setting up a photovaltaic systems, I was forced to use it in his Photovaltaic course at FAU in FL. The book has lots of examples on different systems. The problems in the book are a bit to difficult and the answer could not be found in his book.
