In the case of such reference books as the one reviewed here "Dynamics of Droplets", the whole purpose of buying the books depends on the need for it ie a particular reason. In my case I was interested in the splashing impact of water droplets on hard and liquid surfaces. It must be kept in mind that reference books are general references and not intended for a specific purpose. As such, this book provides a rudimentary introduction to my area of interest. It also covers the whole range of droplet interactions not only experimental results but the whole study of droplets experimental, theoretical and computational. A very wide introduction, based at times on the research of the two authors and their research institute.
Its good as a general introduction but don't expect too much in your area. Worth getting but the price tag is somewhat high.

A fair introduction to basic circuit analysis; not a book that I use every day. It is a necessary stepping stone to the more advanced theory, though.

This book contents is excellent. It is explained easilly and step by step. The examples are very clear and easy to understand. The only problem are the examples at the end of each chapter. These problems are far more complicated than those explained on the chapters. Also the solutions of most of them are wrong. Recommended for non-engineering students.

I have this book, and have read it. At the university I give lectures in dynamics of electrical machines. For the students it is the first time they expirience electrical machines. A problem you always face is what is a good book on electrical machines? I know from expirience that the perfect book propperly will never exist. In this book, I must say, there are some very good explanations on how the different motors work and their dynamics. However, for long pasages it is _not_ clear what the aim is. For a person already knowing electrical machines, it is interesting to talk about motor-windings in a general way, but if want to learn how the basic motors as a DC_motor, a induction motor and a synchronous motor works, it is nescessary to explain electromechanical energy convertion first and then attack each of the motors individually. This is where this book fails. It is a mess with some good parts inside.

This is a great book to have if you are on the road. Small enough to fit in a back pack, tool box, or luggage, it provides plenty of general electric data to assist in regular home work to the large construction sites. It has wire size charts, motor data, electronic symbols charts, transformers and heater data. I recommend it to people who need a field reference. Its much lighter than carrying an NEC code book.

The book covered most important topics in Power Systems Engineering, but many mathematical errors were found. Good for teaching beginning power systems, but watch the errors before assigning problems.

I found this to be a readable, thorough text that adequately covers the subject. A fair number of pages at the end are devoted to reference material -- dimension tables and tables of typical values for real-world motors -- which I found valuable. Criticisms include proofreading - several equations substitute the number "12" for "I squared" which made for a real headscratcher until I figured it out. The line drawings that illustrate the text were apparently supplied by Siemens as this company's name appears prominently on them. This seems parochial to me and should have been edited out, or other illustrations used. I thought that the treatment of phase relationships and rotating magnetic fields was less than rigorous, taking a phenomenological approach rather than an analytical one. It would appear that any material requiring a knowledge of trig and calculus had been stripped out, which is unfortunate. Still, not a bad text overall.

I found the book usefull and full of good infromation. But... the book is not consistant in adressing the skill level of the reader. One moment it goes into great detail for the layman's comprehension. The next moment the book may give short diagnostic instructions, that only someone with a greater knowledge & skill level would undersand. Since the book is the size of a typical paperback, less than an inch thick, space limits it's content. The book would be better if it was more consistant with it's depth of explinations. And/or a terminology and skill glossary
