Electric Machinary-Chapman;
As a textbook, for the first electrical machines course, the main advantages of this book are;

1- Sufficient number of worked examples and chapter end problems. 2- Sufficient number of diagrams, well selected and helpful.

The weaknesses

1- The typing mistakes; I have pointed more than 50 of them appeared in the second edition and, repeated in the third edition.

2- The graphical solutions are not drawn with 'easy to follow' scale, especially those with log or semilog-scale.

researcher book
the content of this book is so vast. it is very useful for researcher in the area of electrical machines. But it must be definitely checked grammatically. there are many mistakes and it makes the article misunderstood.

advanced design book
This book is probably worth the money. It is quite advanced. It seems to contain considerable theory. Some of the notation is hard to follow, but I didn't study it too hard. This is a book that would unfold over time. Someone who is learning can't just read a chapter and bingo. This book is for the long term. I hope to understand this book more after a few more years in motor design.

Basic book for starting with power engineering
This book was usefull for my introduction course to electric prower engineering, for this porpuse is the best book you can find. But Don't expect it to be very profound.

About this book....
Although this book is translated into Chinese, I like to read this book. Because I'm a collage student, this book is necessary for me. I study electronic, and this book is my best choice. Such as transformer, transmission line, power flow...ect, it's full and great to people who want to study the more power system. It's not hard to understand.

A ground breaking book for audio designers
This is one of the first books that had a comprehensive treatment of topologies using bi-polar transistors that are now in common use for things like audio amplifiers, power-supplies, oscillators (such as for audio clock generation), and non-linear switching circuits.

Well written and of great historicial interest.

Excellent
This book is comprehensive and well written. The other reviewer gave it glowing words but only a contradictory 2/5 rating.

Don't waste your time
I have this book and it sits on my bookself collecting dust. It was a required text for school and I could never use it. It is poorly laid out and the descriptions of the systems are not in depth enough to actually give you a decent understanding of the material. The systems are out dated with current technology unless you are a general aviation mechanic. For the few systems that are in detail, the writer makes it very difficult for the beginning student to understand. When I taught I tried to lead the other students through the text and I found it easier to just use the book as a door stop than a teaching tool. The rest of the books in this series are wonderful, but I would never use this one again.

Great Book on Theory but...
This is a great book on theory, but if you're a kit aircraft builder like me, it doesn't have enough specific "how to" information. A great resource to go along with this book is "The Aeroelectric Connection", not available on Amazon as of the writing of this review. It has all the information you need to know about to wire your aircraft; tools, supplies, and the most valuable of all: wiring diagrams for every possible configuration.

Aircraft Electricity & Electronics
I believe this text to be the most comprehensive reference available on basic electricity, electrical & electronic systems and avionics. When I need information about an electrical system or component it is the first place I look.

The scope and detail of the text vastly exceeds that of any of the other A&P "textbooks". The text is not written at a fourth grade level like the other textbooks. If remedial instruction is your objective, this is not the textbook for you. If, however, your objective is quality instruction on basic electricity, electrical systems, and present day avionics systems this comprehensive text is vastly superior to others I have examined.

In the A&P and advanced maintenance curriculum at the university where I teach, this text is used as a reference in five different courses. This text is the one you want to "hold on to" as a reference for your future maintenance activities.

The only flaw in the text I perceive is given the rapid pace of adoption of new electronics and computer equipment in the aviation industry, the text will soon need revision to remain current.

Needs Improvement
This book would be better if it had all the answers in the back as opposed to just the odd problems. It gives you problems in the back of the book that it didn't cover very well in the examples. This is the book my school is using so I am stuck with it. You will go nuts with significant figures while trying to learn from the problems. It could use a little more depth. Or maybe even the website having additional "examples" reading material, more problems wouldn't hurt either.

I guess the book is okay, but this is just from a frustrated college student who works full time, and has a teacher that just reads from the book. I have 8 computer/internet certifications and this book just confuses me. (Not the material as much as the ommission of certian possiblities/questions/etc)

oh well.

My Favourite Technical Book?
This is a fantastic book! All the issues and examples are very clear. They have done great work! The only bad thing is that some pictures has many "problems" to be solved, those tasks can be in different pages, so you have to look at two different pages. And when you have to check the formulas also, you may have to look at three or four different pages, that's difficult. Well, this is too large book, some things have been explained too hard!

John@home.com
First of all, this is the best introductory book I have ever read. Boylestadt does an excellent job of getting to the point on the subjects he talks about. The tools he explains in network theorems are very good for the ones who wish to bone up on their skills. You might want to have some other books that explain the subject a little simpler, but you have to work any way to get at that knowledge level. This is a good class room book where one is in a group and can communicate the thoughts they have leaned from the book.
This book is not about devices such as transistors and diodes but its about how accurately you can analyze the circuit. On top of that every mistake he makes in one edition,he corrects it in another edition. So you can guess that this book is pretty good. You don't necessarily have to have a TI-86,but it makes the work flow pretty easily. You need to know what an integrand sign means but for the most part it is a very readable book.
Boylestadt has books out on devices, too. If it's like this book
you know its very knowledgable.

Not worth the paper its printed on
If there ever was a case for false advertising, this book takes it all the way. The back cover claims that after reading you will be able to install some of the most modern systems. This book is nothing more than a brief discussion about some of the things that can be automated in the home. The wiring that is covered in the book is juvenile at best. If I had previewed the book at a book store I most definitely would not have purchased book. Pass on this one.

In serious need of update
With the pace home automation as been changing, this book should be considered "out of date" and hopefully soon be "out of print." While the author does seek to enlighten readers, the focus of the book is out-of-touch with main stream home automation thinking in 2002. Even the control systems referenced are no-longer near the cutting edge. While references to structured wiring still ring true, the techniques for reaching a total intregated system have changed. I was so disappointed with this book I actually returned to Amazon as I felt it could not enhance my library in any regard. As an alternative I would suggest "Home Automation for Dummies."

The first book I read about home automation
This was the first book I picked out of the shelf to read about home automation. I found it very useful and informative. I read about 50 pages before I had to leave. I wanted to come back and buy the book. I am not sure why so many people seem to dislike this book. Anyway I consider this a good book. I am going to go back and browse through some of the other books suggested and decide which one to buy.

Third semester of crap and counting...
I had the misfortune of using his Electronic Circuit Analysis book my sophomore year. I'm impressed - he's actually managed to write a book that is more worthless! The examples are poor and few and definitions of symbols and constants was almost nonexistent. Get yourself some note cards or you're going to lose hours of your life flipping through this waste of paper.

A Little Detail Please
This is used for an upper division intro to semi's class at the Univ of MN-Duluth
This book is at best a poor text, but more likely it would be better with a reference book that actually went over the material, and used this as an overview.
I like what other students say about the answers in the back, "If you get that answer, you know your wrong."
Either the author doesn't really want the student to know how to do the material inside, wants an instructor to figure it out and teach it, or just doesn't care.
A poor purchase at 10% of the price.

organized, easy reference
This book is used at the University of Washington for an upper level senior, lower level graduate course on semiconductor physics. I've found it a good for breakfast reading. It's a well organized and complete reference to many topics. There are lots of equation numbers and the important ones are boxed in blue (for those like that). Don't read cover to cover.

Nicely illustrated instructions, Little else
I was anxious to get this book for my son who is a precocious builder. However, I was disappointed to see that the gadgets you can build were not described at the beginning of the instuctions. The gadget is named, then the building instructions begin. There is no description of what the gadget does, or how it works.

I was pleased to see that most of the items need to make the projects are easy to find, since my son already experiments with electricity. However, starting from scratch will mean a trip to the electronics store for most people.

Meets expectations
Considering what we paid for this book, it meets our expectations. A bit difficult for a 8yr old. But helps to increase awareness about electricity amoung childrens.

Good for young inventors
This is a great book for a simple introduction to electronic gadget building. My son is always building and designing and this is giving him a way to do it with electronics.

Absolutely Horrible
I've had the misfortune of having this book as a required text for two second-year circuit analysis courses. The book is poorly laid out, and difficult to follow. Concepts are spread out, and hidden in dense sections of text. Much flipping is required to understand what the authors are trying to say.

One slightly redeeming point is the large number of problems in each chapter, but this hardly makes up for the lacking of the rest of the book.

If you're stuck with a course that uses this book, hope that you get a good prof who gives great notes (I got lucky).

Unclear
The book is very unclear in many areas. My professor's notes are better than this book.

Very Nicely Put Together
I feel like this book was very nicely put together. Those who believe otherwise are just slackers that have been given everything they needed in high school. This book is a GREAT book for a electrical engineering major, but just having this book will not make you more intelligent, you will need to take the time to read it to understand what's going on.
