The section on network synthesis and the design of passive and active filters was found very useful. The author presents the theory involoved behind network synthesis in an accessible manner.

However the author could have used more example problems to drive home his case.

This book has been around for a long time. When it first came out, in 1987, it was the best book available. Unfortunately, it has not been updated since then, even though it has been reprinted several times. It has excellent basics for planning and designing a system, but much of the technology illustrated is outdated. With an update, this could be the best book in the field

This pocket size reference guide includes equations and functions used in common circuits. The book also provides printed BASIC programs that may be entered and used to calculate most of the equations.

This is a thorough overview on the vast issue of energy recovery form the oceans. It is important to classify it as trully useful brief guide in all currently proven technology fields, tidal, Ocean thermal (OTEC) and wave energy. Practically an assembly of thoroughly compiled papers, this guide will assess theoretical infrastructure, technological approach, advantages and problems, future research, added to an elementary assessment on economics; all within about 300 pages.

This guide should prove of particular importance to students, academics and engineers seeking some comparative financial information on wave energy projects, compiled by the pronounced authority of Prof. J.Falnes. Although considerable progress has accumulated since when published in 1992, the book remains a definite and solid introductory guide -particularly so for the popular OWC (Oscillating Water Column) technology.
State of the art...is a risky issue to attempt -even as a title effect. That is among reasons on why only four stars are awarded.

Excellent review of the linear optical properties of semiconductors. Very didactic and practical. The optical properties from the far infrared to the UV region are systematically taught, showing experimental data and theoretical models used to fit the spectra. It is appropriate for beginners, and numerous references are provided for the readers interested in details. I find this book so excellent that I will prepare my own course following it.
The only shortcoming I find is the lack of comparison of the experimental spectra with the simulations based on Density Functional Theory and ab-initio methods, so important in our silicon era.

Ever wonder how those special outlets in kitchens and baths work? Their not just like circuit breakers - anyone who has seen those funny looking outlets and wondered how they work should read this book. The author can get pretty technical at times, but anyone with a basic knowledge of elecricity should be able to follow it. There is an extensive chapter on the history of electrical Code requirements, and a discussion of their use in other parts of the world. The only drawback to the book is that it was published in 1996, so doesn't include some of the most recent advances int he field.

Very elaborate review of InP properties. Although GaAs is mentioned in the title - there's very little information about GaAs. Very good literature review for InP and its alloys.

Physics with Multiply Charged ions is a helpful and comprehensive resource of the various aspects of multiply charged ions. Sections of particular interest include discussions on QED effects in MCIs, and the structure and layout of an EBIT. The only problem is that it doesn't provide enough introducotry material. The topics are presented more in the form of a series of research papers, and this hurts the readability of the topics. I bit more material on X-ray Spectroscopy and a connection of MCI physics to normal EM theory would be appreciated. Other than that, Physics with Multiply Charged Ions is a wonderful resource.

This books presents a general overview on process controls. I would recommend it to people looking for a good introduction to the topic.

The author composed an excellent text on the fundamentals of power electronics theory and design. The explanations were very clear and were backed up with challenging, yet, relevant exercises. While designed for undergraduates in an engineering program, I use the written text in instructing electrical technicians. Hats off to the author!
