On page 15 the figure 1.9 shows four capacitors in series, the conclusion drawn is that the four capacitors add their individual values to equal their combined sum. I'm not a rocket scientist but I believe this is incorrect. The only way to add their values is to have them in parrallel, this is completely reversed from how resistors work. I hope this can help you, the rest of the book is very well written and informative.

This book provide the how-to for experiments in electricity and magnetism that many teachers need. It is primarily focused to the elementary and middle school level. This book tells you how to do the experiments with easy-to-find materials and gives you the reasons behind the science. You teachers know that your students will ask, so be prepared.

Ball lightning obviously is an extremely rare event. As in the case of other rare phenomena, the investigator is dependent on reports of casual witnesses, because systematic observing programs are not possible. The reports collected over many years include reliable as well as doubtful information. Stenhoff gives a good sample of reports, photos and descriptions. These clearly show the range of observed phenomena and the questions which remain open. The summary of sightings and the review of theories to explain the variety of observations makes the book very valuable, particularly as there is no comparable recent publication on this topic. I also appreciate the list of references (up to 1998 publications) which allows to look for details regarding reports as well as theoretical papers. All together: highly recommended.

I borrowed this book from a fellow electrition, and it helped me find the problems I was having in wiring in some circutes. The diagrams are easy to understand

I have read the same exact book, just the 1979 revision. So my review of it spans only the first 5 chapters, but I think that this book is one of the best out on the market for beginner electronics hobbyists, or the serious student.

It represents various ways of reading a book such as this one, e.g. the deviation from graphics-only skimming, to text-only study, or even both at a time. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to start in on electronics, or just to find out what's happening when you turn something on! 4 stars! I'm sure the 1995 edition presented on this page will be more than enough for the starter.

I thought that the book helped establish many of the basic concepts of quantum mechanics. It also helped me remember some opf the more basic formulas that I had forgot.

Begins with the necessary physics and vector calculus. Steps logically and clearly through the physics of diffusing ions in solution separated by membranes. Presents classic Hodgkin-Huxley formulation and develops analytic and computer models of excitable axon. Covers basics of ECG and heart vector rotation. All exercises in the book focus on extension of topics and experimentation. Written for the engineer/scientist at the senior undergrad level.

Being a Masters student of History in Denver, Rose's work is recommended reading. Unless the processes and politics of technology and industrialization turn you on, the first two and final two chapters will be slow going. But in the middle three chapters Rose hits his stride describing how the utility companies placed appliances and power tools into turn-of-the-century "home ec" and "shop" classes to get an entire generation hooked for later consumption. He also details how the marketers focused pressure on husbands to buy these "labor-saving" devices for their overworked wives. Even if you are not into the techno-politico history, those middle three chapters are worth the price.

An excellent introduction to market-based mechanisms for electricity provision and alternative electricity market structures. Discussions on transmission planning and pricing could use more meat and consideration of the many unresolved issues. Basic economic explanations are a bit brief as well.

The book deals with the basic concepts of Electricity Supply Industry reforms, generic models of deregulated industry and bring an excellent source of the international stage and characteristics of deregulatory process around the world with some well defined examples.
