Energizing...
Chambers, Schnoor and Hamilton have put together a concise non-technical book on some very technical issues.

Their research is detailed, accurate and extensive. The book is well written.

In these days of rapid change in power generation technology, this book will be outdated within 10 years, though the issues raised here will not be.

Regardless, it's a great read full of great information on a subject that is important to us all.

Thorough, Completely Clear Presentation of the Sector
This book by Ann Chambers depicts the growing Distributed Generation Energy industry with an impressive and wide-ranging command of the facts but with little in the way of hard-to-understand "under the hood" technical lingo. Effects of this burgeoning technology is documented for both the national and international markets; case studies describe the relative successes of DG installation. I cannot think of a better way to start -- as a company owner, as an investor, as a policymaker -- to begin than with this book.

No Fridge Cooking
If you want to live without a fridge, this is the book. Makes living without a fridge easy for anyone. Also cooking with woodstoves covered.

Great use of home storage with or without electricity
This cookbook is good for anyone serious about implementing a home food storage program, as well as anyone enjoying "old fashioned" or outdoor cooking. When starting home storage, I wondered what I would ever do with all that wheat and powdered milk, which are two of the foundation blocks of most storage programs. This cookbook has some very good, diverse recipes, with the added advantage of being usable in the event of power outages, however this type of cooking is tricky and is best learned before it is a necessity. Furthermore, I like this book because some of the recipes remind me of the types of things my grandmother and mother used to cook (steamed puddings, Boston Brown Bread) and that's also fun for the kids, even though time consuming for me. Some recipes are very simplistic (like PB and What? Sandwich), but the point is to list the nutritional values so that one could figure out a complete diet not lacking in anything just from very basic ingredients.

Excellent EE Review Book
This book is a great guide to review
electrical circuits and math too.
It shows basic examples as well
as more advanced examples. Each solution
is covered thoroughly.

Worthwhile adding to your personal engineering library.

I worked all 673 problems. Although there are some printing, circuit and computation errors, (which I documented, sent to the REA people and assume will be taken into account for the next revision), this is a worthwhile manual for any engineering student. It can be referred to myriad times through their engineering career to refresh their thoughts on well thought out, practical and interesting electrical circuit problems.

Chapters 11 and 12 develop Laplace transforms which are highly effective in solving not only electrical circuit problems but mechanical problems, ordinary differential equations, partial differential equations, boundary problems, etc. Laplace transforms will, unlike some other methods, give the engineer the complete solution, i.e. transient and steady state. Try, Laplace Transforms by Murry R. Spiegel.

In Chapters 3, 14, 15, 17 and 18 matrix, Fourier, Z-transforms and state equations circuits are developed as additional methods of calculation.

Chapter 19 on numerical methods is useful, especially now that computers can reduce the tedious chore of calculation. Numerical analysis, by itself, is a fascinating study. Try, Numerical Analysis by Milton Kaufman and J.A. Wilson.

it seems to be basic, necessary, and presentable
I have shown that electromagnetics was one of very important fiels in the environmental problems especially, electromanetic interferance(EMI,EMC) due to the noise, effects on human body ajusting in the atmspheres. so i'd like to research on it, and from now stay at library such as engineering lib. for more long time. maybe no other issues i rush in. suggesting that auther should be hurry, all people can be out of the EMI ghost, pain thanks a lot for reading my opinion, have a good luck.

Fantastic!!
The book is just what I have been looking for. The materials covered are detailed and understandable. The author sure does know how to convey his points across by being descriptive and informative. I recommend this book to anyone who has the similar interests as I am.

Electronic Transport in Mesoscopic Systems

A great book
The book primarily describes the so-called transmission formalism which is applied to electron transport in mesoscopic systems. Yet the main strength of the book is its introduction of the powerful, yet easy to implement numerically, apparatus of single-particle Green's functions. A device engineer armed with the knowledge of this apparatus and a copy of MatLab should be able to accurately model conductance and charge distribution in devices on the scale of tens of nanometers. Indeed, the book illustrates the application of the apparatus to transmission calculations in devices such as resonant tunneling diodes and single-electron transistors. The book provides much more than calculation recipes; the roots and physical relevance of the transmission formalism are well explained by examples such as the quantum Hall effect and conductance fluctuations. The text should be a great aid to future nanoelectronic device engineers.

Integrals from my heart
A few words to just sum it up, SUPER DATTA. The electro-moelecur analysis presented by author Super Datta is an incredible interpretation in defining the forier series. Euler's Identity is not only sexy, but intellectually stimulating. My boyfriend Michael and I a few weekends ago in Key West Florida had the opportunity to visit with Super Datta. While sipping tasty tropical beverages and listening to KC and the Sunshine band, we contemplated for hours over quantum mechanical models. This is simply the beginning of the decaying power sears.

Super Data, Super Job, I'm simply, In love

Homemade Holograms: The Complete Guide to Inexpensive, Do-It-Yourself Holography
Published in Paperback by McGraw-Hill/TAB Electronics (November, 1990)
Author: John Iovine
Amazon base price: $19.95
Used price: $7.50
Average review score:

Very good reference
Mr Iovine provides an excellent resource for building relatively inexpensive devices for creating holograms. From isolation table to power supply with pictorials, schematics and sufficient information about the technology to assist each step taken. A star omitted due to dated source information.

Excellent practical introduction
The majority of do-it-yourself holography books have at least one major flaw. These range from "you can do this on a sand table" (sand and optics do not mix, sir!) to "now, from the Laplace transform of the spatial function we can see" (maybe *he* can see it, but non-physicists can't.)

Iovine's book has none of these flaws. He just explains how to do holography with minimum equipment and expense. It's a practical book. Holography can be expensive if you're just going to try it out, but Iovine shows you how to cut the costs by building your own laser, your own optical table, beam shutter, and how to use film rather than plates.

If you want theory, he has a fine -- short -- and intelligible explanation of why it works, with no mathematics required.

I've got Saxby, Unterseher and Iovine on the book shelf of the optics lab. They're all classical texts in their own right, but only one of them is dog-eared, and it's Iovine.

A good introductory read.
This book was written to counter many of the arguments used against nuclear technology in simple and easily understood terms. Recommended for people with little technical background that want an introduction to the topic.

Great introduction to a nuclear power
The book was a short, concise, fact filled introduction to nuclear power and its history. This book was logical and easy to read and nobody should be afraid of reading it because of its scientific and technical content. One major point of the book is that nuclear power is extremely safe and clean compared to its fossil fuel based alternatives. It also debunks the many falsehoods and myths the anti-nuclear power movement have succeded to spread. A very convincing and important book. Nuclear power may actually save us from the great disaster. Don't judge the previous statement before reading the book. I am personally very impressed! Thank you Prof. Max Carbon I truly enjoyed your book!

Power System Operation
Published in Hardcover by McGraw-Hill Professional (January, 1994)
Author: Robert H. Miller
Amazon base price: $50.00
Used price: $31.11
Average review score:

Great Little Primer for Load Dispatchers
Part of my job with a large midwestern power company is to train load dispatchers. I'm constantly on the lookout for good material. Power System Operations by Miller is one of the best textbooks I've found to train non-degreed system operators. I used the first edition myself when I was a new load dispatcher, and I found it to be a great self-study guide.

One problem with the latest (third) edition, there are no answers provided for the questions at the end of the chapter. This is no problem if the book is used in a classroom as the instructor should be able to figure them out. But for self-study it is absolutely necessary for the publisher to provide the answers to the chapter tests. Also, there are a few typos in the chapter on reactive power that could be very misleading to students who are already struggling.

The book concentrates mainly on transmission but the first four chapters are useful for distribution dispatchers as well. They provide a good foundation for teaching system overview, AC fundamentals and reactive power. The chapters on protective relaying, while still giving a basic overview of the various schemes, are a bit dated because they don't cover some of the latest microprocessor-based relays that have been replacing the electro-mechanical ones over the past several years.

This is not the be-all and end-all for training system operators, but when combined with on-the-job training and other supplementary material it can help establish a solid training program.

Excellent developmental tool for Power System Operators
Power System Operation provides a well structured knowledge base and reference for the new and seasoned power system operator. It will serve as the foundational and theoretical basis for many of the experienced based knowledge that is passed from operator to operator. I would recommend that all power system operators be equipped with this book as must read material.

power plants technology
I'm currently using this text as a main refence book in my teaching labor in Facultad de Ingenieria , Mecanica , Electrica y Electronica 'de la Universidad de Guanajuato,Mexico, from at least 5 years ago. This is a very complete book to see a global idea of the power station technology, for fossil and nuclear power plants, including the thermodinamical basis, and it has too a very good information on non- conventional energy sources and its hardness technology.i recomennded very entusiatically for the people who wants to know about the energy bisness

Powerplant Technology
I have found this book since 1993 and curently it serves like a reference book for the courses that i teach in the subject of "Electrical Power Plants" in the "Facultad De Ingenieria Mecanica,Electrica,Electronica" of the "Universidad de Guanajuato" i have found the book content very understandable and with the theoretical deepness enough to take the aknowledgement of the thermal proceses for the electrical generation power plants additionaly, it tooks lightly the nuclear power plants technology and the renewable energy sources and the technology necesary to aproach them. The book gives a general sight for the college students involved in the energy areas of mechanical and electrical engineering. I strongly recomend it.
