Although I am a physicist and possess many books, for a long time my collection contained only a single book related to physics: Photons and Atoms. It is the most pedagogical text to be found on the fundamental aspects of the quantized interaction of matter with light. It's concise, clear, and convincing. The reader is never left mystified about any technical detail: no assumptions or approximations are left unexplained or swept under the rug. Yet, in spite of the high technical level the text is full of insights and simple intuitive pictures as well. Worth mentioning are also the exercises in each Chapter, which are remarkably useful and rewarding, Moreover, the solutions are given and display the same clarity of style and insightful remarks as the main text. The main emphasis of the book is on the nonrelativistic formulation of QED, but, of course, there is also a chapter devoted to the relativistic version that includes a description of how to take in a proper fashion the non-relativistic limit. Also questions of gauge, such as concerning the often confusing choice between "p.A" and "r.E" are treated, and it is, e.g., explicitly shown how in numerical problems the two are not always equivalent, as approximations made are not necessarily gauge invariant. Is there anything bad to say about this book? Almost not: for a while I had the impression that this book was the only one without any typographical errors, but in the meantime I have discovered 2. To be a bit more serious, maybe there is something: the book focuses on fundamental issues and, hence, if you expect ---especially given the title of the book---to read about problems such as spontaneous emission or laser-induced ionization of atoms, then you will be disappointed. In that case, you will have to check out the companion volume: atom-photon interactions. But hey, that's not such a bad book either.

A must buy for those wishing to study the physics of semiconductor devices.

This book should be more famous than it is. I bought this book on half.com with a very cheap price. I didn't expect much from it. But when I started reading, I found this book rather good. The author has the readers in mind. The writing is very attractive, it's hard to imagine a semiconductor book that you don't want to leave aside. This book is not short of math, but unlike Seeger's book, it's not boring and intimidating, the author doesn't want to flood you with abstract math, he wants this book to be useful and practical. Also, there are a lot of illustrations to help you understand the text. The content of the illustration is good, but the drawing is a little coarse and need some refinement. Also, the typesetting should be improved.

i used this text book in my final year engineering project and i found it to be a very halpful book aaaamong many others that i read in my final year project design work.

This is the best one among the books published by this author so far. And it's very suitable for researchers who works on high power devices, such as SiC and GaN devices.

THIS IS A GREAT BOOK. IT NOT ONLY GIVES INFORMATION ABOUT POWER SUPPLIES BUT IT ALSO EXPLAINS HOW TO BUILD THEM. THE INFORMATION IS PUT RIGHT IN WITH THE STEPS SO YOU LEARN ABOUT SOMETHING AS YOU BUILD IT. IT HAS INFORMATION, ASSEMBLY STEPS, REQUIRED PARTS, AND STEPS TO UP THE POWER ON PRE-EXISTING POWER SUPPLIES. IT SHOWS, IN DETAIL, ON HOW TO CALIBRATE AND MAKE ADJUSTMENTS TO YOUR POWER SUPPLIES. LOTS OF DIAGRAMS. THEY ARE VERY HELPFUL IN ASSEMBLY BUT SOME, NOT MANY, CAN BE CONFUSING.

If you've tried many highly technical books, you'll REALLY understand when I say that it's just a plain, old, decent book -- does what it's supposed to do without any of it botched. He covers both equipment and connections and, e.g., positive/negative/zero sequence analytical stuff. If you're not eating beans and rice 3 times a day due to low income, this is an investment for you! By the way, Gross has long been the Square D Professor at Auburn U.

This book is actually a pictorial book of a Nuclear Power Plant. It has a narrative that explains the nuclear power industry, and an overview of how the plant operates: Its key components, etc. However, this is not a scholarly work, and seems to be geared more toward a jr high student level. I used it to explain nuclear power to my children. The pictures are also excellent.
