This book is a must have for anyone serious on the subject. It's the most comprehensive source of information I have ever come across; pays for itself in time saved searching for data, examples are of great practical value and the material is current. EE background recommended.

This book is a must for all power systems engineers (industry and academia). the authors have embarked on a problem which is of great importance in today's competetive dergulated power industry. with ever growing need for increasing profits and reducing the cost of generation and transmission, the maintenance scheduling could make or break a power provider. The authors have ever so correctly addressed this problem both from theoretical and practical point of view. Their recommendations and suggestions regarding the present, past and future practices are right on target. As an academician I think both students and practicing engineers should use this book for it's theoretical, practical and up to date information on maintenance scheduling.

for a long time now, i was looking for a "start from scratch" book in understanding auto electronics. a book with illustrations that actually explains how it works. this book is a great introduction, a must buy if you really want to know the fundamentals. even though it's about RV's too, it tells you all you need to know about autos.
the more you read, the better you understand what you read.
i now know how the battery really works, know what it really does, what the altenator does. i know about switches, sensor,actuators and solenoids now. at first you you need time to grasp the concept, but it gets easy to understand very quickly. 5 stars.

This book is being used as a textbook in our technology classes where a less rigorous coverage of DC/AC fundamentals is desired and which includes the topics of three-phase voltage and an introduction to motors and generators. We use this book as the DC/AC text for our HVAC, Electrical and Mechanical Maintenance programs. The author covers P-Spice simulation in the last chapter which could be left out without taking anything away from the book, in other words, nice, but not necessary.

The listed publication date is 1992. The Coast Guard routinely adds and subtracts questions from their database so I don't know if the book is still valid.

On the plus side, you would have the old questions.

On the minus side, you would be missing the updated questions.

If you are like many people, you will have trouble reading 250 pages of question on the screen then this book will be good. If you want to print out the current questions, or read them on a screen, the USCG site has them in Excel and PDF format.

I am not aware of any other publication that has the current questions, which is a pity.

This is a great introductory book for people who have just entered this field. It explains those deep concepts in rather simple words and formula, but very clear. And it is so well organized you will never get lost while reading it.

I want to start of by saying I am a student take electricity class. We got this book a few weeks ago. I thought it would be like any book. A book wrote to just get money. These book half the time doesn't make since. The person that wrote this book took the time to write in a way anyone can understand. This book is easy to follow, and has lots of pictures to help you understand. If you want to know alot about electricity or a little bit this is the book for you. I also like that the book follows the newest code 2002.
