This book is a compilation of letters and artwork gathered from children across the world. Mr. Temple traveled to countries such as Egypt, Sweden, and Canada to develop a feel of how children view the earth's environmental concerns. It's a sweet book that could be used for elementary aged children as well as a refeshing book for a conservation professional.

I'm in the education field and one of my reoccurring irritations is that when I go to conferences, I constantly hear about how corrupt, evil, racist, "fill-in-the-blank-with-evil-adjective" the government of the United States is. I am sometimes drawn into these conversations and what I find out the majority of the time is that the same people complaining have no idea how our government works or how to change it. These same people often feel that loudly complaining will solve their differences. Then I start asking these people questions about their knowledge of government like "Do you know who your congressman is?" or "Do you know how Congress works?" What I usually get back is dirty looks and incredulous attitudes. Then I explain how our democratic republic works and how they can put pressure on their appointed representatives. They're usually amazed and ask how I know such things.

I explain that a little education (what most people receive, but don't retain in their high school civics classes) about our government, country, and the history of our country can go a long way. Even something as simple as realizing what the three branches of our government are is a useful first step. Reading the Constitution can be a good second step. Books like this one explain some of the basic facts about how our government in the USA works and how to participate in it (other than just voting).

Perhaps the most important part of learning about the government and history of the USA is that it's OK to be patriotic. Too many radical liberals (and a few wacko conservatives!) think that it's shameful to be patriot. It's not. The USA is a great country and has much to be proud of. While the USA isn't perfect and has made some mistakes as a country, I always think of the final factor in this country's greatness is the large numbers of people who "vote with their feet" and immigrate here. Some people are so desperate to get here from countries that don't take care of or provide for them that they are willing to illegally immigrate here. That's, perhaps, one of the most powerful statements that can be made about the USA.

I highly recommend this book for those of you who feel that your vote isn't important or that you can't change your world. You can!

I recommend this book because this content of the story is very interesting. The words are very easy to understand. You can read the book and see the movie as well. Many people like to see the film. So I want to recommend this book for you...

I was given a copy this book when I was hospitalized for Bipolar-II disorder and given Depakote as a mood supressor in May 1999. This book is really very good, easy to read, and mostly appears to be complete. I have the personal feeling that it seems to be a little incomplete (maybe I have paranoia also!), but it is an excellent starting point.

This book provided information that people of all ages can use. Many of us only know basic information, such as smoking can cause cancer. When you read The Downside of Drugs, you recieve information like where each drug came from, the effects drugs can have on an indivisual,the ways in which drug use influences certain aspects of our society, and much more.

I saw this book at a thrift store and remembered using it incollege for quick weight loss. I picked it up for 25 cents andbelieve it was a terrific investment. Dr. Stillman's diet seems to make more sense than any of ther other high protein diets that are out there right now. The major difference seems to be that this diet allows a variety of vegetables and salad items and also an alcoholic beverage every day! Though breads are restricted, there is a recipe for a tasty, low fat, low carb bread (made with cottage cheese!) that satisfies a craving for muffins, rolls or cookies. I have experienced no hunger pangs on this diet and have lost a pound nearly every day since I began. The book is over 20 years old and it will be noticed in some of the anecdotes and observations Dr. Stillman recounts about about his patients. In addition, his recommendations on exercise seem very tame for today's exercise crazy world. He recommends stretching, deep breathing and walking in front of your TV set! I enjoyed this book and plan on passing my copy on to my mother after I lose 10 more pounds.

This is a great concise text that presents the ocular side effects of almost every drug that's on the market. I have yet to find a drug that is not in there. While there are constantly new drugs being formulated and released there may not always be what you are searching for in this book...but there will be that drug category which will give a good idea to the practitioner about what to expect. This book saves time and frustration for the Optometrist or Ophthalmologist in that we do not have to repeatedly look at the PDR and sift through the mounds of information presented in it.

In contrast to Drugs in Pregnancy and Lactation, which covers drugs by name, this text addresses disease categories and in many ways is a more useful text to overview specific problems. References complete and timely. A useful reference work to have on the shelf of any OB or primary care physician.

This is an excellent book for introducing young children to drugs...both the good and the bad. It is very helpful if there is abuse in the family and it needs to be explained to small children. It is a great book to open the lines of communication.
