Despite how it is presented here, this is actually an edited volume of chapters written by experts in the field. Gives a good update of the current state of knowledge. Essential reading for people in the field.

Very scary stuff. The bottom line is that for the sake of enhancing national security and national competitiveness, the U.S. Government, with approval from the highest levels, funded the wholesale introduction into U.S. citizenship of both Nazi scientists and Nazi participants in genocidal programs who were viewed in many cases as "essential" to our anti-Communist endeavors. The loss of perspective among selected senior intelligence and policy officials, and the long-term influence of this program on our obsession with Communism, give one pause.

Bought the book due to a magazine review. No disappointments even after reading in the magazine much of the information contained in the book. Book has more good information about what type of plants to use in certain areas, ease to grow, how each kind of houseplant helps clean the air in it's space. Good reference for anyone interested in experimenting with improving air quality around them at work or home.

Igi (Inger Birgitte) Heitman is a researcher at the univeristy of Oslo. She's trying to link psychology to chaos theory, but after her father dies in a hit-and-run accident she finds herself following up his last job as a private investigator. She hopes to find the truth about his death, but instead is drawn into the lives of an increasing number of people, all somehow connected to Siv Underland, the missing woman at the centre of her father's final case.

Apart from enjoying this thriller for its story, I got a real feel for what it would be like to live in Oslo in winter. Brrr! This book has been understandably compared to "Miss Smilla's Feeling for Snow", for both its chilly setting and its intriguing narrative.

This book provides a good look at the well known alerting agent, caffeine, which is a weak drug. There are other books which more closely look at the role of caffeine on paying attention, perhaps the most famous book being How to Cure Hyperactivity (ADHD)(1981) by Dr. Anita Uhl Brothers, M.D., of Berkeley, California and C. Thomas Wild which reports that caffeine compounds can temporarily reduce distractibility and increase attention span for a small subgroup of those with Attention Deficit Disorder, working better and with less side effects than Ritalin.

I had to do a seminar for work, and I didn't have many resources on my topic: carbamate pesticides. This book was very informative, providing me with the compounds in the class, with their mode of toxicity, and with their uses and misuses. I found out that one of the most toxic substances known to man, aldicarb, is a carbamate pesticide. I realize that most people out of the scientific field would not find this book interesting, but since I am a chemist, I was impressed with this book.

I've been a fan of this software ever since I was able to transform myself from a relatively handsome guy in his mid-twenties into a bald guy with a comb-over! (something my wife is still upset at me for)

This book gives step by step, easy to follow instructions, with examples which had me up and going in no time. There is also a demo version of the software on the CD-ROM for those who don't have it yet.

I recommend this book to anyone interested in morphing technology. Even though it is now considered "old" software, it is by no means obsolete. I still use it often with great success.

This book provides a non-technical overview of the role that sex hormones play in aging. The title led me to think that the book would address the entire field of aging; however, it mostly focuses on the relation of sex hormones to aging. The first five chapters actually do summarize the general subject of the science of aging, but the information contained in these chapters is covered in more detail in other books (see Steven Austad's 1997 book, for instance). However, starting with chapter 6, Gosden hones his focus more specifically on the sex hormones and how they affect aging. He presents the story of the discovery of the sex hormones, starting with investigations by Brown-Séquard in 1889. In the remaining chapters, Gosden interweaves the history of sex hormones with recent discoveries about how they affect aging. The book is written for general audiences, so there are no in-text citations, although Gosden provides a chapter-by-chapter list of suggested readings at the end.

The IPCC-1994 follow up on the first two reports of the IPCC working group one (WG1) reports on climatic change gives a good compendium of our knowledge on anthropogenic (and natural) radiative forcing of the atmosphere and the climate system. The book fills the hole that new findings in the last couple of years have created. It will be mostly for specialists that have to know things before the rest. If you do not belong to this group, wait for the 1995-IPCC report due in the beginning of 1996.
