Mozart Effect
Music has been a power in the World probably since the dawn of time. All indigenous tribes used and use it, as well as most people in the world today. The entire series has helped me as a person with Multiple Sclerosis to recoordinate my thinking, relax, regain focus, and has helped me with depression. My motor skills are not yet improved to a great extent, but I've only been using the CDs for a month. I recommend them to my friends. I have also taken an interest in Gregorian Chant since reading the book. My ability to concentrate has improved remarkably after daily use of all 5 CDs for the past month.
I hope all that purchase or are considering purchasing these products will give them a serious try. My entire household of 5 have benefited from the music.

National Image and Competitive Advantage: The Theory and Practice of Country-Of-Origin Effect

The definitive guide to country-of-origin effect
Two of the world's leading country-of-origin academics have collaborated on this strong work on national image. It is not for the faint-hearted: Profs Jaffe and Nebenzahl have backed up their theories with hard, academically rigorous research. It is not a book for the casual marketer, but for a marketing expert that has an understanding of the qualitative and quantitative analyses of marketing research. Despite the academic foundation, the authors have filled this book with up-to-date examples, including the Rover sale by BMW and the revival of the 'Buy New Zealand made' campaign in late 2000. There are useful lessons for identity professionals applying national branding to not only nations but any product or service making use of a country's image. Those charged with promoting nations will be advised to read this comprehensive and complete work.

Improve Your Health with Herbs
Prescription and over-the-counter drugs can interact with herbs, so before taking an herbal formula it is a good idea to see which herbs should not be taken with various vitamins, minerals and prescription drugs. There are also some herbs that most people should avoid and this book contains the information you need to make the best decisions about your health.

Herbs can be quite powerful and there can be side effects. There are seven sections that explain the 175 best herbs and how to use them to promote healing and relive minor symptoms.

The Contents Include:

Introduction - Why you should take charge of your health naturally.
Safe & Effective Herbs - Safe herb catalog and herbal medicine explained
Safe and Effective Multiherb Formulas - Multiherb forumulas explained
Herb-Herb and Herb-Food Interactions - Potentially harmful interactions
Dietary Supplement-Herb Interactions - Beneficial dietary interactions, harmful interactions.
Drug-Herb Interactions - Drug catalog and understanding interactions.
Herbs for Special Cases - Safe herbs for children, potential dangerous herbs for children, unsafe herbs for pregnant and nursing women, safe herbs for older adults, dangerous herbs for older adults.
Buyer Beware - Herbal safety, herbs to avoid.
Appendix - Reliable manufacturers, suppliers, top-selling herbs, index of safe herbs, conditions index, additional reading, easy-to-use index.

Not only does this book give you the best information I've seen on herbal medicines, it also is beautifully illustrated with full-color pictures of the plants being discussed. The layout of the items is especially appealing and you will find this book easy-to-use and very practical.

For instance, if you are taking Anacin 3, Asprin-Free Excedrin, Bayer Select, Excedrin PM, Panadol or Tylenol, these contain Acetaminophen which is a pain reliever and fever reducer. While there is no known herbal interactions, you may want to help prevent liver damage from long-term use of acetaminophen by taking Milk thistle. So, preventative care is also discussed in detail.

The Index of Safe Herbs by conditions gives you information fast. If you have Insomnia, you can look up the name of the condition and you will find recommendations for Catnip, Chamomile, Dill seed and Valerian. To read about Chamomile in detail, you can easily look up the herb at the front of the book in the safe herb guide.

What you will find is a picture of the herb plant, why it is used, how it works, comments and cautions and dosage information. For instance, if you can't sleep, but are using a blood-thinning drug like warfarin, or you are allergic to ragweed, you might want to skip that remedy and research a second option. In the beneficial herb-herb interactions tables, you will see that catnip and passionflower are good combinations to relieve anxiety and insomnia. However, they should not be used with antidepressants or MAOI antidepressant drugs like phenelzine.

As with any remedy, it is a good idea to discuss your health issues with your doctor before taking herbal supplements or vitamins. Use this book to catch those items your doctor might not even be aware of. Most physicians don't seem to be aware of the side effects of herbs and don't take a great interest in this area. That has been my experience. Once you know what works for you, I think you will see your doctor less and feel empowered that you can in fact help your body heal with your own knowledge.

Echinacea, olive leaf extract and oregano have literally been a miracle for me and my husband. Within about three days of catching a cold, we seem to recover and get on with life. Before, even on antibiotics, it took one to two weeks to get well.

I looked up Olive Leaf on page 44 and sure enough it is used to treat infections, including colds and ear infections. It contains oleuropein, that has been shown to kill bacteria and viruses. It also has been used for antibiotic qualities for more than 6,000 years! Talk about an ancient remedy. Echinacea is also a Native America remedy and then you have oregano which contains substances that are known to be antibiotic and antifungal. I take the capsules as the oil is rather intense and is not recommended for internal use.

Herbs may be the miracle you have been looking for.

Surfing The Net Effect
At a time when how-to-do-it books on computing spawn in a seemingly endless stream, Beth Porter has written an intelligent, highly readable book that has little to do with the how and a great deal to do with the why and where-to of the internet. The Net Effect, a well-illustrated, carefully documented, incisive theoretical work starts with the little known, virtually unwritten history of the internet and concludes with some futuristic speculations about the internet phenomenon. The book, although sophisticated, is absorbing and accessible to a reader, like me, who has only a basic general knowledge of the internet.

Between the historical and the predictive are chapters that focus on the socio-cultural paradigm shift that has occurred and is still occurring as a consequence of rocketing internet growth. Two large sections of the book focus on, first, the "da Vinci Syndrome," or the dramatic rise in the close links between art and technology, and, secondly, the increasing interconnectedness of all postmodern, non-linear human experience, fueled and supported by the internet. Porter examines and illustrates how the internet can connect virtually everyone to everyone else, how the democratic organization of the net enables people not only to use it effectively but influence its direction, and how it fosters interactivity among its users. Porter, an independent Media Consultant, award-winning website producer, and internationally known lecturer and writer on internet issues, displays a wide breadth of knowledge and experience that pervades every page of the book. But the book is far from pompous--spiced as it is by appealing anecdotes, recounted with wit and verve.

For me, the most interesting section of the book is the chapter that deals with the technology of the internet and its impact on the contemporary arts scene. Drawing on and building upon her extensive background in theatre, film, and television, Porter explains lucidly some basic ways in which the internet has changed not only the contemporary artist's vision and production of art but the entire relationship between artist, art work, and audience. At its best, the internet can and does involve its audience more actively with the art work than was possible in the pre-internet era.

As Lord Puttnam of Queensgate CBE comments in his foreword to The Net Effect, Beth Porter "has written a totally accessible account of the history and effect of the new technology, with enthusiasm and flair, and without a hint of the expected computer nerdiness that would, I confess, ordinarily scare me off." I can't agree with Lord Puttnam more. I read and re-read The Net Effect with great interest and emerged from my brief immersion in the history and theory of the internet with a much better understanding of its power and with much less fear of its impact.

Excellent Concept!
In 1997, the editors of this work organized A Meeting of the Minds 2: ITEC Virtual Conference '97. Presenters from around the globe submitted essays which formed the basis for electronic discussions during the virtual conference. This collection includes over 40 essays which were originally presented at this groundbreaking conference. Contributors are from Australia, Canada, Iceland, the UK and the USA.

The conference was divided into ten strands as follows: Censorship: More Problems. Possible Solutions?; Children's Literature and the Internet: Issues and Services; Critical Thinking in the Electronic Age; Electronic Collection Development: Selection and Management Issues; More Hot Spots for Teacher Librarians; MOO Trek: Using MOOs in Education; Multiple Personalities?: Teacher Librarian, Cybrarian, Director of Information Services; Process and Product: How Do We Access Students' Work?; Professional Electronic Networks for Teacher Librarians; The School Library Home Page

Each strand is represented in the work with essays written by school library professionals who provide a wide range of viewpoints and demonstrate the universality of issues concerning the profession.

This is an excellent collection of essays dealing with many of the concerns of our profession as we continue to embrace the electronic world. Not only useful to teacher librarians, but could be used to further educate teachers and administrators on the role of the teacher librarian in a digital world.
