This book has been impossible to buy for a decade now, and I continue to miss having it. It provides a thorough and historical comprehension of the field of international education. It has a nice written style, concepts are well described and it is context oriented. I hope a third edition is a future plan of both editors and publishers.

Readers familiar with Robert East's work will recognise the thoughtful yet critical approach he has taken in his latest book. As always, East's review of advertising is wide ranging and, unlike many authors, he does not pursue a narrow agenda, but presents and evaluates a range of views and the empirical evidence associated with each of these. Another key characteristic of East's work is his ability to make difficult concepts accessible to others. For these reasons alone, this text is a valuable addition to the range of study material that can be set for advanced papers in advertising and marketing communications.

Comprising six main chapters, East includes a detailed analysis of media planning and the effect of advertising exposure on consumers. I found this one of the most valuable aspects of his text as it included a review of Jones' STAS model and incorporated details of recent UK work, neither of which tend to feature in other advertising texts.

East's review of wearout also added a valuable dimension to the text as, again, this complex topic tends to be glossed over in other texts (unless these are specifically devoted to media planning). East also presents a thorough review of competing ideas and assists readers to understand the strengths and weaknesses of different approaches. His analysis of empirical data relating to wearout is particularly helpful.

Chapter 4 examines how individuals process advertising and thoughtfully reviews different models of advertising. I would have relocated this chapter closer to the beginning of the text as knowledge of the theories discussed is useful in interpreting the different approaches to media planning that were canvassed in earlier chapters. However, East's provides an excellent overview of complex theories and the chapter integrates material from a variety of sources clearly and succinctly.

Chapter 5 examines point of sale activity and it was pleasing to see a detailed discussion of this increasingly important topic. East links this chapter very clearly to the material in chapter 4 and offers a much deeper analysis of point of sales promotions than is typically found in advertising texts.

Overall, this text fills an important gap in the advertising text market. Although academics have numerous texts from which to choose, many take an almost entirely descriptive approach. By contrast, East's text is one of the few to offer a critical review of the conflicting ideas and theories that abound in advertising. Academics who wish to challenge their students by exposing them to a wide range of views will find this text invaluable.

This book is excellent! Great for science lovers, environment lovers, and great book lovers. It teaches us to learn about and appreciate our currently decaying environment. I strongly recommend that you buy it!

This book, part of a scientific research series, focuses on the effect that antenatal exercise has on psychological well being,pregnacy and birth outcome. It provides a comprehensive review of the literature to date. In particular, there is a very interesting and easy to read section on the history of exercise in obstetrics throughout the centuries. There is a section on the practicalities of exercise classes and the author describes the physiological and anatomical changes that occur during pregnancy. The study itself is detailed, well controlled and addresses the gaps in many previous exercise studies. Overall, I found this a very easy to read book and recommend it for anyone interested in the field of exercise during and following pregnancy.

If you are interested in the effects of climate change, and can afford the not insignificant entry cost, you should buy this book. It is particularly recommended for all American scientists who continue to deny that climate change exists. I found the book so gripping that I read it from cover to cover in one evening. However, you should petition the publishers to put a marginally less obscene pricetag on the book.

This is the best book ever! You HAVE to buy it! Tom is a genius and a very interesting person. Also a great storyteller. The book is excellent--I have several copies. You definitely won't regret this purchase!

This is the classic Cold War study of the effects of nuclear weapons. It is a timely book in today's world as we all ponder the nature and effects of weapons of mass destruction (WMD).

This wasn't what I expected, but was even better. It spoke to my spirit. I also highly recommend Andrew Wommack's book, "Harnassing Your Emotions."
