Cape Cod at its best
For many years, the author has sold beautiful photographs of Cape Cod scenes in his store in Chatham, Mass. This book is a compilation of these photographs, and they are exquisite. Anyone who loves Cape Cod, or photographs of natural beauty in general, should buy this book. The author manages to capture on film what so many people love about Cape Cod and convey a sense of what makes Cape Cod different from anywhere else.

Excellent Cape Cod Photographs
This is a superb collection of highly detailed photographs of mainly natural scenes on Cape Cod. The photographs are mostly of the Outer Cape (Chatham to Provincetown) and span all four seasons. The reproductions are exceedingly well done. Anyone who likes nature photography or Cape Cod should love this book.

Their rainforest is ours
Dion, Rockman, and Ross show us what is in front of most of us, the dwellers of the urban landscape, in a way we all might like to think about looking at the world. This is a great, thought-provoking book which is a must for every rural and urban school, city, and town library around the globe. If hundreds of curious people pick it up to buy and read, and give it some consideration, all the better. I loved it. - Loren Coleman

Urban life...
A great book, with a general overview of the urban dwellers and the habitat they transform by interactions beetween species, space, history and the human perpective of the life in the cities.

Its real achivement is the explorations in to urban ecosystems, with an accesible language for everyone.

The basic information book for all cancer patients.
Bruning covers aspects of curing Cancer that no one is prepared for, in a factual, non-pitying way. This book is a departure from many "I Survived the Big C" books that gloss over how to contend with symptoms and side effects that do have remedies.

As she covers each topic, you may find her own personal experience tucked among the information. But her recovery is not the subject here. It was the variety of information, some outside the traditional approaches with their risks, besides what foods may be helpful.

When I joined CANSURVIVORS, a help group through American Cancer Society, I knew that a factual help book like this was immensely important to ease people through their illness. I refer to it all the time, but often have given my copy away again!

After my treatment, with many bumps along the way despite the best of care, I was determined that a different book was needed. I would write it. I organized the topics, and was searching for professionals to interview. I was startled to find that Bruning followed my outline in "Coping with Chemotherapy" two years earlier. She had written my book very well! I thank her again.

Very helpful tool for those facing chemo.
I have purchased several copies of this book to give to friends who were facing or coping with chemo. All of them thanked me and said that it helped them so much. I am buying another one today, sadly, for yet another friend. It tells you things that your doctor may not and let you know how to help yourself.

Creatine and Other Natural Muscle Boosters : Everything You Need to Know About America's Bestselling Muscle-EnhancingSupplements

If you don't know this is the book that you need
Finally a book that explains how supplements work. Very easy to read, this book explains in detail how creatine works and how it should be used. There is more truthful supplementation information in this book than I have found in muscle magizines in the past three years. Anyone who wants to try supplements needs to read this book first to get an edge on companies who sell low grade products.

Creatine: Explained
This book was very informative about the good and bad effects of creatine and other muscle enhancers. I think that this is a good book for the serious or not too serious weight lifter. Very clear and straight to the point.

Not a random walk.....
...but a coherent and organized text on diffusion.

This is a complete text on the subject of diffusion. Similar to Shewmon's original "Diffusion in Solids", but Glicksman is more complete and modern. Glicksman is worth purchasing even if you already own Shewmon.

Finally, a complete explanation...
I have found that mathematically intensive books frequently leave out many of the steps that are critical to a complete understanding of the fundamental equations. Diffusion in Solids does a wonderful job of taking you from start to finish in each problem presented. It is a complete tome worth every dollar spent. Thanks Marty!

really good
A very well written walk through of basic knowledge into dose-response data and synergistic relationships. I found it very helpful.

The definitive work
The statistical analysis of drug combination data in the literature is of a generally poor quality. This is not through lack of guidance in the literature, but rather because the relevant papers are scattered throughout the statistical and pharmacological literature, making it difficult for researchers to get a good overview of available methodology. What is needed is a single work where the required information is brought together. This book is it! The book covers most of the statistical methods required for drug combination studies, from designing the study to optimise power, fitting dose-response curves, to analysing the data. Many examples are given, which the reader can work through to confirm their understanding. The presentation is very clear, so even those with a limited knowledge of statistics should be able to follow it. The book does not aim to cover all of the available methods for analysing drug combination data, but the methods it does contain will be adequate in most cases. To balance my review I should point out the weak aspects of the book. It is not easy to find any. But maybe some of the material could have been omitted - for example formulas for calculating a linear regression and the variances of the estimates, which most researchers would just want to get from a computer output. Also, there are over 30 pages of tables, such as logarithms, probits, t-tables etc, which most researchers would have access to from other books, and which are rarely required as software normally does all the work. Besides, there is some strange formatting in Table A-2 (natural logarithms). For example, ln(0.1) is given as "7.6974-10"; why not just -2.3026? These criticisms are trivial in relation to the positive aspects. Any researcher studying drug combinations for synergistic or antagonistic effects will need this book. I like it.

An objective, well informed look at a culturally taboo topic
Many of the Scientific American Library books are gems and this isosemantically titled book by Dr. Snyder is no exception. The books I have read from this series are uniformly short, sweet and to the point. Drugs, per se, are after all essentially what brain function is. Drugs are our personalities, our emotions (not to mention all other vertebrates, especially the class of mammals to which we belong). There is no better way to come to understand psychology, physiology, the cognitive sciences, and one could argue, metaphysics, than by examining the action of drugs and the brain; the primary distinction being intrinsic, naturally produced drugs as opposed to extrinsic, store (or street) bought ones.

Dr. Snyder runs through the litany of the common classes of drugs: the opiates and their natural countersubstance, the endorphins--the stimulants and their action of dopamine reuptake blockage--the hallucinogens and their concomitant serotonergic pathways--and some of the more popular psychopharmcologicals specific to schizophrenia, depression, and anxiety.

This book is a well written, historically informative, crash course in pharmacology for the lay reader, and remains a valuable reference long after its initial reading.

Psychopharmacology primer for the intelligent reader
This book is short, accessible, and fully illustrated. It is a particularly compelling technical primer for the intelligent but non-initiated reader. The logical flow of the book reflects the history of drug use and pharmacology research, both increasing in sophistication over time, and is topically organized by the major classes of psychoactives.

Subjects touched upon include the use of drugs in religious ceremony, Freud's cocain habit, the 60s, and the modern era of specialized mood-altering drugs.

The author is chair of Neuroscience at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland and one of the top three most cited scientists in the life science.

It is a pleasure to read, and a springboard for further investigation in the areas of psychopharmacology, neuroscience or psychiatry.

Earth Signs - Understanding the Medicine Wheel
I loved the simple, straight-forward way of presenting a complicated system of magic. Integrating the Winds with the Moons, the people and the animals of the world has laid out a basis for a lifetime of self-introspection and awareness on a universal scale.

The beautiful presentation of words and illustrations are icing on the cake.

Well worth buying!
Earth Signs is a great book and has given me a new and different perspective, I would like to wish Grey Wolf and his co-authors every success with this book, and I hope they will follow it up with other works of just as high a calibre. Julian de Burgh Astrologer.

Wonderful book despite dull title
I first came across this book in my local library. Its rather dull-sounding title notwithstanding, the book is an easy-to-read, lively, thoroughly useful primer for young adults about job loss. As a parent who has experienced being laid off, I highly recommend this book for kids. ...Its main theme is that a parent's unemployment affects the children too, and it addresses the kids' concerns in a caring, positive, and reassuring manner.

Very helpful for children
I highly recommend this book to anyone from ages 12 and up. In a calm, clear, and engaging way, the author explains unemployment to children: how and why a parent might lose a job, how it affects the whole family, and how to cope with problems. The book is positive and quite comforting, while addressing concerns about unemployment straightforwardly. It's full of good, useful information, even for adults, and can really help children understand and cope with a difficult, yet all too common, issue.
