Quick & Fun
This book offers very easy to implement closers that can not only be quick and fun, but of course do what closers should do - reinforce learning. Some are certainly just for fun and when there is brain overload, those also have their benefit. As most of Pike's books, this is certainly a good one to have in your library.

Spectacular Endings
This is the most valuable book in my training library. It offers memorable and positive closures for any training. I recently used Name Tag Closure for a weekend long training. The participants loved it! As an added bonus, they told me it made a great icebreaker at the beginning of the training. This activity help them remain focused as they helped each other "find" the answer to their questions. It also worked as a great review at the end of a very long training.

Improves Retention of Trained Material
Lynn Solem and Bob Pike teamed up to present 50 of the best closers they found and used in their Creative Training Techniques Workshops. Trainers looking for ways to end their sessions on a high note will find lots of opportunity lurking between the covers of this book.

Each activity is coded for its use in one or more of four categories: Review Content; Action Planning; Celebration; Motivation. The instructions for each activity are clearly laid out, listing the activity's Source, Objective, Class Length, Appropriate Audience, Group Size, Amount of Time to allow for the activity, Equipment required, and the activity Process.

I have used nearly half of these closers at one time or another, and each one has hit its mark--even when I have been afraid the activity was going south for a few minutes! The A to Z review is one of my favourites for coming back to a group after a lunch or evening break. Colored Dots is a splendid technique for giving the participants a chance to commit to using the learning points on the job. Consulting Envelopes works well for both review and real-world problem-solving, and after trying the Geometric Close about four weeks ago I cannot imagine why I did not use it earlier. Trainers looking for creative ways to have participants reviewing material--enthusiastically--will find this book a useful tool.

Many good ideas on how to make your training more active
This book has many good ideas on how to make your training more active. For example, it give one ideas on how to turn a mundane one-way lecture into a lively interactive discussion so that the participants not only enjoy the learning, but retain and use the knowledge gained. In addition, there are many activities that a trainer can use to make his or her training more lively. I strongly recommend this book to all trainers.

Wow!
Great book with plenty of practical comments and ideas which allow you to design a truly active session that both, your audience and you, will enjoy.

The best book in training i have read since i am training
I have pleasant meetings with you book Active Training at the last weeks. I am very impressed from it. The book is the best book that has been written about active teaching and learning. The book taught me new active ways as well. The book could help you diagnosis your faults at training and remind you what you forget to do. The book is very friendly. Active Training make it clear that you can be the best trainer if you just work for it. "Active leaning" might hurts but it helps you to grow. I am very grateful about the adventures. The book function like a mirror that tell you where your lipstick is not polished , so you can correct it. The book gave me new insights even I am teaching for 10 years already . The book is like a mentor If you like you can give your hands and travel at a virtual exelent training class.

Pragmatic Leadership Tools and Techniques
This book is an essential part of every manager's toolkit. It is the most pragmatic book I have ever read about conducting a productive meeting. The title is modest. In addition to providing me with a step by step guide for the best meetings I have ever led, over half the book is dedicated to the delicate art of managing group dynamics. Levasseur takes sophisticated behavioral concepts and makes them simple to apply in the toughest situations. He also offers great advice on how to design and conduct specific meeting types (customer advisory sessions, process redesign workshops, etc.) that tend to be non-recurring and require a creative approach. The author accurately points out that the techniques of dealing with human dynamics in a large group meeting also apply in less structured business situations, such as one-on-one feedback sessions. I give this book two thumbs up. The first thumb is up for the book's broad applicability, pragmatic style, and overall usefulness. The second thumb is up for its readability and relevant examples that bring the concepts to life. Not only have I read this book a number of times, I use it on a regular basis in my work. I've read all the books on meetings, and haven't found one better than Breakthrough Business Meetings!

Practical advice
At last, a clear roadmap to designing a productive meeting. Written in a user-friendly manner, this book provides detailed instruction on how to plan for and how to facilitate meetings that actually produce results. Anyone who plans meetings, in whatever capacity, should read this book.

Indispensible Guide to Meetings
We need to stop meeting the old fashioned way where the person who called the meeting thinks it's his or her meeting. In reality, whenever any group of people meet to discuss issues and solve problems, the meeting belongs to everyone who attends. In simple and elegant terms, this book shows you how to harness the people-power that is inherent in any meeting. Read it and apply it's principles and suggestions and the quality and productivity of your meetings will improve dramatically. As Professor Schein of the Sloan School knows, this book is both theoretically sound yet totally practical. It is an indispensible guide to meetings in the 21st Century.

Great book!
I baught this book at first just so I can see how I would feel about getting into real estate. Let me tell you, I studied the book, took the C21 course (we went over the same material that was in the book but rushed through it in class)then took and finished my state exam in a little over a half hour (3-31/2 hour test if I remember correctly).

Believe me when I say, this book helped me a lot. I don't think I would have past the state exam with just taking the crash course.

I have been in real esate for a year now :). Thank you, Mr. Pivar

Great Material
I am about to take my exam and I am quite confident thanks to this exam book by William Pivar. I was not able to find the companion that can go with this book according to the Introduction. I think it would have made it even easier to learn.

Complete the questions in this book and you will pass
This book is a rigorous study book. And it is a lot less expensive than taking a cram course. It is the only thing I studied and I passed the first time!! Now I just wish there was a companion book for the Broker's exam!!!

CORPORATIZING AMERICAN UNIVERSITIES - SOLUTIONS TO SAVE THEM
During four decades of working in several American, Canadian, and European university systems, I witnessed the insidiously gradual corporatization of universities. Now, the historical record of the nightmarish transformation has been written down in "Campus, Inc." edited by psychology professor Geoffry D. White and political organizer and writer Flanery C. Hauk.

This book is a lively and thoroughly well referenced work. Those who believe in universities as centers of free inquiry that productively protect and defend democracy, will be revolted and horrified by the revelations in "Campus, Inc." The may even become activated.

"Campus, Inc.," is an intensely absorbing collection of essays by thirty nine authors. Among them are consumer advocate Ralph Nader, outspoken MIT university professor Noam Chomsky, and political activist Ronnie Dugger former editor of The Nation and founder of Alliance for Democracy. These are but three of dozens of similarly subversive figures who discuss the history and mechanisms of the hostile takeover of American universities by self-serving corporations.

Setting a grimly comic mood, Dugger's essay quotes a limerick recited by Clark Kerr, former president of the University of California who became top man at the Carnegie Commission on Higher Education:

"There was a young lady from Kent,
Who said that she knew what it meant
When men took her to dine,
Gave her cocktails and wine,
She knew what it meant -- but she went."

Then Kerr added to this, "I am not so sure that the universities and their presidents always knew what it meant , but one thing is certain -- they went."

"Campus, Inc.," presents California professor Leonard Minsky's writings on America's conquered campuses that have become inhabited by, "Dead Souls," as the title of his essay characterizes today's students. Minsky cites U.S. Congressional passage in 1980 of the Bayh-Dole Act as initiating the removal of independent thinking on college campuses:

" ... displacement and subordination of the humanistic tradition and collegial society that are integral to the university . . . . Without significant public scrutiny [corporations] annexed billions of dollars in public investment in the universities, silenced corporate and military critics on campus by defunding their departments and programs, replaced students with a more docile group intent on securing corporate jobs and benefits, and altered the culture of higher education by focusing it on the needs of corporate sponsors for marketable products instead of basic research."

Todd A. Price's essay, "Wiring the World: Ameritech's Monopoly of the Virtual Classroom," presents the darkest view of corporatized education. He forecasts replacing live classroom teaching by technology that will change the campus from a thinking place into a pure workplace. Price predicts that video and computer technology will devalue the classroom experience by replacing live human classroom teachers altogether with staged and canned computer and video-instruction that can be cut, edited, centrally controlled and transmitted .

Price documents teacher and student reactions to the techno changes: "They ripped my classroom up," one teacher is quoted. "A lead teacher . . . described a macabre scene. A student teacher was sitting in front of a row of students. She was wearing a headset with an attached microphone. Each third grader had a microphone on the desk just in front of them. A curriculum expert from the University of Athens sat in the background, miles away, and transmitted corrective feedback to the student teacher."

Most students recoiled and retreated into silence. The teacher judged the experience of teaching on-camera as having little day-to-day value.

Most young university graduates who would be professors naively believe that entering academic life will offer them freedom and opportunity. But "Campus, Inc.," presents a picture of bleak exploitation and systemic, corporate manipulation of young academics. " ... instead [they] find themselves in an existence as throwaway 'adjunct' instructors, hired and then fired, adrift like the Ancient Mariner and forever roaming the earth in search of a tenured port."

Michael Parenti writes that if American campuses have had any instinct of linkage to the world of progressive activism, political action has been browbeaten out of them by decades of draconian surveillance. This assessment is seconded by Noam Chomsky who states, "all that has kept the vast university sector afloat was money from the Defense Department, which led to students and teachers becoming little more than an obedient home army providing technical and logistical support for a government that is at permanent war.

Essayist Jeff Lustig promotes faculty unionization, citing the victory of the California Faculty Association at California State University at Sacramento where he teaches. However, he also charts an alternative to the campus as a knowledge factory and vocational training school for the corporate world order. Lustig proposes a democratic university to train academics in the mold of philosophes of the Enlightenment who brought to society itself the fruits of their learning in the form of a radical criticism that nurtured history's earliest movements for revolutionary democracy.

American students as activists in a world struggle is an entirely new concept of a university mission that "Campus, Inc.," helps to popularize. Campuses could be a battleground against corporations that degrade

workers and wreck economies around the globe. Chapters detailng the success of student actions against international sweatshops, against a California attempt of communications companies to gain access to the campus market in return for provision of educational technology, and opposing foreign investment of human rights violator Burma.

"Campus, Inc.," can serve as a handbook for those in the forefront of mounting campus reisitance to presidents trying to run them like for-profit companies; who act like corporate CEO's by downsizing faculties, cheapening academic services and programs, and peddling access to whole student bodies to outside vendors and corporations.

Parents of high school students who read "Campus, Inc.," will become skeptical about computers in classrooms. They will get a powerful urge to protect their children from video cameras on campus. Also, they will anxiously wonder where to find a corporation free, good old fashioned liberal arts campus that can prepare their children to become mature, independent thinking and democracy defending citizens.

inspirational for student activists!
This compilation documents the disturbing trend of so-called "Corporatization" in US Higher Education...includes articles & commentary by Ronnie Dugger of "The Texas Observer" and by Ralph Nader, as well as by student activists themselves, documenting their successes and failures in combating "Corporatization" and struggling to make universities more deomcratic. If you liked David F. Noble's _Digital Diploma Mills_, you'll love this book. If you buy this book and have never heard of David Noble, read up on him also! Likewise, this book makes a nice companion piece to any number of books by Stanley Aronowitz on Higher Ed, especially his books _The Knowledge Factory_ and _The Last Good Job In America_.
Essential reading for exploited graduate students, academic librarians, part-time adjuncts, and all members of academia's proletarians.

Brilliant!
This book offers a poignant rejoinders to those familiar cliches, which advocate more interventionism on the part of the state in economic and social affairs. Over a hundred cliches are answered from "We must abide by the majority... thats a democracy" to the all to familiar "Pass a law" cliche. No liberty-loving library should be without a copy of this book. Contributors include a wide spectrum of paleolibertarian, conservative and other thinkers.

This book should be taught in kindergarten
This book is one of those gifts that come along at a time in life, right when you're ready to hear the message. This book is not just a libertarian manifesto. It is the basis of liberty presented in a highly digestible format of short essays that one can keep a copy of in the crapper. Good stuff in, bad stuff out. This book is a must read and must have for any citizen concerned with freedom, liberty, and a truly just society.

An excellent resource
This book provides quick, but thorough, rebuttals to many of the most common cliches spouted by those who would involve government in every aspect of our lives. A must-read for anyone who thinks about politics.

Efficiently written and well-organized.
A very concise, well-written book. Extremely helpful with regards to actually writing the exam - very focused on passing the test, as opposed to learning for learning's sake. Also contains lots of useful information about exam and CMA qualification procedures. One word of caution: I have a background in economics, and I imagine someone without a similar background might find this book too advanced to start with, in that it is very abrupt - no time is really spent on explaining basic but tricky concepts. I appreciated this fact, but others might find it tough. But you'll definitely want to work through this book at some point before writing the exam.

Bravo and well written!
If you really wanto to pass the CMA exam with the least effort. You gotta read this book. It's well organized, clear, and useful. I can guarantee you if you go through it twice, it would be no pain at all to pass the exam. I wish I would have had read it twice so that I could pass it with a higher score.

A must for the CMA exam.
Book is very well organized and makes studying by topic easy to follow and to understand. The book is organized by 10-exam topic followed by related questions, very similar to those on the actual CMA exam; some of the questions are taken from CIA exam.

I think it is one of the few books that offer comprehensive material I found in the market on CMA exam. It is a must if you are serious on passing the exam. The Gleim CMA software is a highly recommended tool. Good Luck.

Kids get more than "Fast Cash"
We have had this book for over 2 years, and I have watched my 11 year old develop in her ability to choose increasingly more sophisticated jobs. This book is a great tool for children to develop a creative business sense. The ideas are practical and attainable for children to produce. As they work out the details of a chosen task, they can learn business ethics and how work well done can increase their earning potential as well. My daughter was interested and encouraged by the section on stories of famous and successful entrepreneurs who started creating various projects as children. This book is definitely worth buying.

Exellcent and helpful book.
exellcent book. Has some faboules ideas. It is a must read for any children.

Fabulous, with real-kid examples of success
I have only skimmed it, but am ordering 10 copies to give to inner city kids through a non-profit organization.... stimulates the reader's creative imagination. It's easy to become convinced that a successful REAL business is possible. Dozens and dozens of creative teenage entrepreneurs are interviewed, each with a different kind of business, each one successful, and many of whom have continued running their business as an adult!
