Review for the Clep Introduction to Management Exam

Needs an update, but still wirth the money
6/29/02 I needed Principles of Management for a prerequisite to get into an MBA program. Took the test 3 days ago. Several questions on the test, especially relating to people who'd developed theories, were never covered in the study guide. I think they probably need to release a revised edition. The study guide still describes the test as a #2 pencil, color-the-ballons test. Today it's on computer. I liked the short, direct-to-the-point format of the book. I read it once, working all the problems as I read. Then I read it all again and reviewed the questions before taking the test. I was told that scores range from 20-80. Mine was 78. I don't see why anyone would take a college course when they could buy this study guide, spend 8-10 hours studying, and then pass the CLEP.

The Only Study Guide You Need
to pass the Principles of Management CLEP. I read this book through once, worked all of the practice tests at the end of each chapter and went through the sample tests at the end of the book until I had a good working knowledge of the subject. I took the CLEP this week and passed with 20 points to spare.

I spent less than 2 weeks with this study guide before taking the CLEP.

Pay attention to the theory and the theorist who goes with it. Make sure you really know the definition of each of the management theories (functional, systems, etc) so that you can recognize them on the test. You'll need to know not only what the theory is but also be able to distinguish which theory is being described in a real-life management situation.

Good luck!

Easiest credits I've ever earned.
I bought this book based on the other reviews I saw here on amazon. I spend about a month reviewing (could have spent less, had finals in the way) and read the book about 4 or 5 times, did all the tests 3 times and ended up with a 71. It's a very short book (about 80 pages of review) and definately worth the cost. There were a few questions on the test that weren't covered, but overall a pretty thorough study guide.

Absolutely Necessary to Score High on the GMAT
I started preparing for the GMAT test approximately 8 weeks ago using the Offical Guide for GMAT Review, practicing roughly 40 questions per day. Since the Official Guide doesn't have much in the way of test taking techniques, I also used the Kaplan and the PR Verbal Workout. Aside from these books & the PowerPrep tests, there wasn't much else I used.

I took the test today and scored a 720, which closely matched my scores on the PowerPrep tests (720 and 740). On the Kaplan tests, I scored 630, 620, 680 (don't trust the Kaplan scores). In my assessment, the Official Guide practice questions are crucial for maximizing your score - you'll probably want to use the other test prep materials to learn some useful techniques, but the Official Guide MUST be used. Since the math in the Official Guide comes from the old paper-based test and has changed somewhat since then, I found the quantitative questions on the actual test to be slightly harder. I'd suggest supplementing with questions from the Kaplan for the math. For this reason, I gave the Official Guide 4-stars. Seems the Verbal questions haven't changed though - I found them to be quite similar to what I encountered in the Official Guide.

Practice as many questions as possible from the Official Guide and you'll be good to go!

Get this book
I have studied for about 6 weeks for Gmat. Before I got this book, I got through several other books for Gmat(such as Kaplan,Princeton Review,Arco,Barron etc.) and all of those books were imperfect in the sense that they could not even match the quality of problems in this book.(Some in Kaplan were mere copies of the real questions) Since I had a very solid background in mathematics I concentrated mostly on verbal. However, when I did the two sample exams in Powerprep, I realized that my verbal percetile was around 70.I got a score around 700 in both exams. Finally, I acquired this book fortunately just a week before the exam, and decided to cram the verbal part. I finished the verbal part in 4 days. I read all the explanations in reasoning and sentence correction questions. I am sure that doing so will let you too get the 'feel' for the best answer. In the actual exam I scored in 97th. and 93th. percentiles, quantitative and verbal respectively. I left the test center with a score of 740. I claim that this book might be your only guide in preparing for Gmat given that you can already score high in quantitative.

Real GMAT Questions and Answers -- this is the source

This book -- The Official Guide for GMAT Review -- was the only GMAT preparation book that was of any benefit to me. Kaplan's and Princeton Review's books were real disappointments because all their GMAT questions are manufactured (not real GMAT questions) and they give advice (such as picking numbers and working slowly on the first few questions) that is simply wrong.

Because I had so much success with my GMAT, I now help other people improve their GMAT scores. I insist that people use this book to prepare for the types of GMAT questions that they will see on test day. In the last few months, I have helped several people score 700 or above on the GMAT-CAT and these people have been accepted to top B-schools.

So don't accept any 'branded' substitute, get the Official Guide.

When you listen to your heart, your life becomes a blessing!
I first read "Major in Success" in 1994 and found it to be an exciting, inspirational, entertaining, creative and straightforward presentation of how we all have the capacity within us to recognize and achieve our life's passion. I recently read the revised version and it continues to motivate me personally and professionally. As a career counselor, it is the one book I recommend to my students, particularly first year students. Patrick, you are an inspiration and a wonderful role model. Oprah, if you are listening I would book this guy in a second!! Mary DeManss Recruitment Specialist/Career Advisor Career Development & Placement LOYOLA COLLEGE in MARYLAND

Helpful Advice About How to Build a Career While in College
College students need more guidance in how to turn their talents, curiosity, and passions into successful careers. Most guidance offices and books on the subject will be inadequate for these purposes. While this book has some weaknesses in helping you select the direction you should go in, it is superb in helping you pursue your goals once they are set. The book could use more material on how to learn from other students, and more on financial planning (especially now that so many students leave college with enormous debt loads). The writing style is witty and engaging, and the examples are interesting and relevant. Repetition does occur in using the examples, but it's not too bad. I recommend this book to any college student who wants to lead a more meaningful, enjoyable life during and after college. This book would be most helpful if read before the freshman year, and reread occasionally thereafter.

The book's main flaw is that it urges you to select a career direction based on your passions. That's good as far as it goes, but isn't sufficient. I remember a graduate school classmate who was passionate about dating young women. He found out that this was easiest to do as an airline executive, and that's the career he chose. He had no inherent interest in the industry, and after he married, I could see how this career and passion could lead to problems in a marriage. On the other hand, he was very curious about how people made decisions, and was very talented in that area. There are a number of careers that would have made use of those talents, and also helped him meet a reasonable number of young women to date. That's my example of why passion isn't enough for choosing a career.

You also have to think about curiousity and what the rest of your life will be like. What would you like to learn more about every day for the rest of your life? That curiousity is what will drive you to accomplish and enjoy your work the most. Even if you aren't particularly talented in that area now, curiosity will help you develop talent beyond those who have more innate ability. Most innovations come from people who do things in new ways because of limitations (in part, Jackson Pollock did drip paintings because he did not draw very well).

The book's strengths are the many useful and appropriate suggestions for how to develop the experience, knowledge, and credentials to attract a shot at developing a career you want. What he describes are the best ways to do this, based on my experience in having hired lots of college graduates over the years.

There are also lists of places to get even more information, depending on what you want to learn more about. These sources will encourage you to look around more than you otherwise would. Summer is a good time to do this kind of research.

Parents, unless your daughter or son always happily does what you suggest, I would not encourage giving this book as a gift. This book needs to be discovered by the student to do the most good. Hopefully, college students will share the book with one another. If you think your student's roommate would read it, give the book to the roommate. Then, let nature take its course.

By the way, the book is good at pointing out the trade-offs between higher grades and more activities. As a hirer, I always ask people basic questions about the subjects they have studied and test their knowledge and skill that way. I don't care whether it was learned in class or in an activity. Be prepared!

After you finish reading this book, think about how you could apply its principles to the activities you would like to do as hobbies throughout the rest of your life. You never know, those hobbies might also develop into career opportunities. In any event, you will live a richer, more enjoyable life.

Make the most out of your curiosity, your passion and your energy!

The best of the best self-help books out there!
Wow! I don't know where to start about this book. Major in Success is such a power tool to help ANYONE (not only college students!) to look for their dream job. I don't know where else I would be without these helpful tips, practical reasonings, and great feedback from people who ALREADY made it! I would definitely recommend it to anyone who are chasing after their dreams but are too shy too. It made a difference in me and I think it would definitely make a difference in you! Here's the big plus: The author is donating 100% of the profits to charities. Not only are you helping yourself, you are helping the world too!

Student Leadership Practices Inventory , The Deluxe Facilitator's Package Set
Published in Paperback by Jossey-Bass (24 July, 1998)
Authors: James M. Kouzes and Barry Z. Posner
Amazon base price: $73.75
In the 1980s and again in the '90s, James M. Kouzes and Barry Z. Posner published The Leadership Challenge to address issues they uncovered in research on ordinary people achieving "individual leadership standards of excellence." The keys they identified--model the way, inspire a shared vision, challenge the process, enable others to act, encourage the heart--have now been reexamined in the context of the post-millennium world and updated in a third edition. "What we have discovered, and rediscovered, is that leadership is not the private reserve of a few charismatic men and women," write Kouzes, chairman emeritus of the Tom Peters Company, and Posner, dean of the Leavey School of Business at Santa Clara University. "People make extraordinary things happen by liberating the leader within everyone." After explaining their concept and methodology, the authors detail the five essentials noted above in a pair of chapters apiece that bring clarity to their theories with case studies and recommended actions. The specificity of each (motivating through "the meaningfulness of the challenge, not the material rewards of success," for example, and being able to "accept the mistakes that result from experimentation") is enhanced by advice on sustaining the commitment and making leadership skills accessible to all. The results remain as relevant as when they were first published. --Howard Rothman

Too Long to Remember
Kouzes and Posner offer wonderful information but way, way too much of it. They should rewrite this book, chapter by chapter, making each chapter one book. I recently read "To Lead is to Empower" by Shar McBee, where she presents profound and useful information about leadership in a way that busy executives like me can use. Truth is simple.

Guidelines and Parameters for the Perilous Journey Within
I recently re-read this brilliant book before proceeding to Kouzes and Posner's more recently published Encouraging the Heart. I highly recommend both and suggest that they be read in the order in which they were written. Those of us who presume to review books such as this one can merely indicate their breadth and depth of substance as well as their stimulation of thought about the material presented. For example, Kouzes and Posner identify what they call "five leadership practices common to successful leaders" and then suggest ten "behavioral commitments" among those leaders studied. Here they are:

Practice: Challenge the process
Commitments: (1) Search for opportunities and (2) Experiment and take risks

Practice: Inspire a shared vision
Commitments: (3) Envision the future and (4) Enlist others

Practice: Enable others to act
Commitments: (5) Foster collaboration and (6) Strengthen others

Practice: Model the way to the desired objectives
Commitments: (7) Set the example and (8) Plan small wins

Practice: Encourage the heart of everyone involved
Commitments: (9) Recognize individual contribution and (10) Celebrate accomplishments

Those who conduct "360 Feedback" programs could do much worse than to base evaluations on criteria suggested by these practices and commitments. They provide the thematic infrastructure of the material which Kouzes and Posner present within seven Parts. The first introduces key concepts and terms: "Knowing What Leadership Is Really All About." Each of Parts Two-Six is devoted to one of the five Practices. Kouzes and Posner conclude with Part Seven, "The Beginning of Leadership', followed by two appendices which enable the reader to complete "The Personal Best Questionnaire" before reviewing "The Leadership Practices Inventory."

There are dozens of outstanding books on leadership and this is one of the best. I am especially impressed by the balance Kouzes and Posner maintain throughout between theory and practice. More specifically, they introduce and explain various core concepts and then draw upon real-world situations to illustrate those concepts. Obviously, "Encouraging the Heart" (Part Six) introduces ideas which Pouzes and Posner develop in much greater depth in a sequel volume which bears the same name. They conclude this book as follows: "We have said that leaders take us to places we have never been before. But there are no freeways to the future, no paved highways to unknown, unexplored destinations. There is only wilderness. If you are to step into the unknown, the place to begin is with the exploration of the inner territory." Those who agree (as do I) with these final remarks are urged to check out David Maister's Practice What You Preach, Tim Sanders' Love Is the Killer App, David Whyte's The Heart Aroused, and Larry Davis' Pioneering Organizations.

Concepts that have stood the test of time
I am the CEO of a Fortune 500 company who read the original version of this book in the late 1980's. As the five criteria for leadership success discussed in this book, namely -- model the way, inspire a shared vision, challenge the process, enable others to act, and encourage the heart -- have stood the test of decades of exploration and execution, the subtleties explored in this new edition are a welcome addition to my library of leadership books. I strongly recommend this book and additionally, wholeheartedly recommend Optimal Thinking: How to Be Your Best Self as a superlative universal resource for leadership and corporate optimization.

Can't take advice on writing from someone who can't write
Even after reading previous reviews about the sloppiness of this book, I purchased it anyway because the reviewers found the content very helpful. But when I opened the book, I couldn't get past page 10-- no matter what gems of wisdom lay within, the mass of typos and incoherence make it impossible to justify finding those gems. The fact alone that Dr. Shaw has managed to sell thousands of articles convinces me that I can break into this field. The reviews at the front of the book laud her enthusiastic teaching style, which she may very well have in person, but on the page she just stinks. Even her examples of "queries that sold" contained weak and redundant sentences, such as "Please consider this topic, and thank you for your consideration." Wha? There are so many books on this topic, I recommend skipping this one. Any good advice is probably found elsewhere.

This book is a powerful addition to any writer's library.
Wondering where to start to write and get published? "THE SUCCESSFUL WRITER'S GUIDE TO PUBLISHING MAGAZINE ARTICLES" provides answers in a concise easy-to-read format. A real must
I must admit I needed a helping hand with my application. The Essays, GMAT, letters of recommendation... sometimes seems like an endless process where you never know if youre wasting your time since you have no guarantee of being accepted (especially at schools where it's getting ridiculously competitive). this book has guided me through the whole process.

First, the book gives you the confidence you need to keep faith. It outlines loads of testimonials of successul candidates (harvard, MIT, Berkeley, Columbia, kellogg...). When you read their stories, you feel that they were like you: people who had accomplished some stuff but obviously had doubts and weaknesses. Then, the game is how you present yourself and how you write succesful essays.

The key is that you should adapt your essays to the various school profiles. The authors have done an outstanding work on the top schools. There are about 50 pages per school outlining the differences between all the schools. If you want to be admitted to Stanford, you obviously don't say the same thing in your essays as if you want to be admitted to Columbia. The great thing about this book is that you get insider information. The other books I bought are just too general, stuff like "smile on the day of your interview"....this is more specific.

You read this book, and the profiles of the schools you want to apply to, and you feel that the game is easier than you thought.

Very Helpful - The best of all the books I purchased
During the business school application process I read countless books on the topic. Of all the books that I read, this was by far the most helpful. I especially found the example essays from other students helpful in giving me ideas and structure for my own essays. If you are considering applying to one of the schools profiled in this book you will be pleased to see a very detailed overview of the program by a student who has attended the program. I had already taken the GMAT by the time I read this book so I didn't focus on that part of the book, but it seemed to be fairly complete.

My only complaint - and this complain is universal to all business school books that I've found - is that it emphasizes applying to the "top" business schools. There are a number of books that profile the "top" 10-15 business schools and do a good job of it, but very few that provide any detailed information on the other 200+ MBA programs. I was focused on applying to MBA programs that are considered by most ranking systems to be ranked 20-50.. There is very little information available beyond what the school provides on these programs. The vast majority of people will be attending schools that aren't considered "top 10".

Second most useful after Montauk's book
This book is the second most useful b-school admissions book after "How to Get into Top MBA Programs" (link given above).

The Ten-Day MBA
Published in Hardcover by William Morrow (September, 1993)
Authors: Steve Silbiger and Steven Silbiger
Amazon base price: $23.00
Used price: $6.50
Collectible price: $8.50
Average review score:

A worthy effort
Silbiger does a great job of simplifying those subjects with a circumscribed body of knowledge i.e. accounting, economics, marketing, Quantatative analysis, and finance. He imparts to the reader the jargon and the definitions that one needs, to engage in conversation with those in the business "know."

This book would be great preparation for a student initiating an MBA course at a distance learning, online school such as Grantham University or the University of Phoenix, where their dollars would go farther and their education could proceed more quickly (depending on their work habits). This in itself is reason enough to spend the money and read this book.

However, as a venture capitalist (VC) who invests in for-profit schools let me say that good operators, the future Captains of industry, are born more than made. Those who do well in school often become their lieutenants.

Much time is spent by VC's pushing discounted cash flow numbers (DCF) around in optimization models when it might be better spent learning how to recognize the character traits of capable operators. It's like selecting wives or husbands, one small mistake in character reading up front can lead to a long expensive journey as you untangle the mess.

But for now, we've only got the business case-study past to peruse and for most that will have to be enough. As for the few who have the capacity for unblinkered analysis, balanced judgement, adaptiveness to the unpredictable and the unknown, character, intelligence, organizational and leadership skills, and the focus, dedication, persistence and determination to execute a plan and see it through, to those will go the BIG rewards. Find one and grab on, either as a worker or as an investor (or as a potential mate.)

A worthy book!

A Great Refreshing Course
I have read the "Ten Day MBA" and found it a great refresher on many, many of the topics that I covered years ago at the Now-How Foundation Business Course. It was very easy and fun to read, and brought back a lot of valuable information to me. There were also many new topics that I had never covered back in Business Course. All the important areas are covered here: marketing, accounting, organizational behaviour, quantitative analysis, finance, operations, economics, strategy, research, public speaking, negotiating, international business, business law. The book covers a whole MBA course. Each topic was clearly presented, had real world examples, and didn't overcomplicate the subject. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn quickly what it takes two or more years to learn at business school. I can recommend that book to everyone, who has a business or economics background.

Ten Days, Ten Weeks, Ten Months...Whatever
There is a major development now underway in the publishing world (eg "Chicken Soup for Dummies Who Want to Make Billions in E-Commerce") which explains my apprehension as I began to read Steven Silbiger's book. In fact, it is an excellent piece of work. He organizes most of the material within ten "daily" segments. For those unwilling and/or unable to earn an MBA degree but who wish to strengthen their business knowledge and skills, I highly recommend this book. From my perspective, it provides at least three major benefits:

First, the quality of writing is quite high: Silbiger does NOT "talk down" to his reader. Dim-wits and knuckle-draggers will derive little (if any) benefit from this book.

Second, as thoroughly as time and space allow, the material is presented (exactly as promised) as a "step-by-step guide to mastering the skills taught in America's top business schools."

Third, however long it takes to absorb and digest the information provided (ten days, ten weeks, or ten months), the reader will gain a sound working knowledge of subjects which include marketing, ethics, accounting, organizational behavior, quantitative analysis, finance, operations, economics, and strategy. Silbiger also includes several "MBA Mini-Courses" and then brief discussions of research, public speaking, negotiating, international business, and business law. In his Introduction, Silbiger observes: "My goal is make you familiar with the significant MBA tools and theories currently being taught at the leading business schools and to help you understand and develop the MBA mind-set." He achieves his goal. Can this book take the place of an MBA degree? Of course not. Can this book increase substantially a reader's business knowledge and skills? You bet. It has already done so for more than 200,000 readers and it will continue to do so for many others in years to come.

If you decide to purchase this book, take very seriously the learning opportunities it offers. (Why else buy it?) Proceed with rigor and focus. Highlight key points and take notes along the way, then review them at the conclusion of each "Day." Stick to the study schedule you deem most appropriate for you. Maintain a journal in which you record your reactions and reflections as you learn. Perhaps one day Silbiger will write a "Fieldbook" to accompany this one. Meanwhile, let a journal become your own "Fieldbook." Record in it your experiences when applying what you have learned. In doing so, you may well create for yourself a decisive advantage when competing with those who so proudly possess an MBA degree from one of "America's top business schools."

Best PMP prep book on the market
RMC's exam prep book was essential in helping me pass the PMP exam. Topics are covered in depth. The questions closely mirror the actual questions on the test. Examples are good and easy to understand. References to the PMBOK help to enforce the information. No fluff. Just the things you need to know to do well on the test. Buy it!

Great book...with the cd!
You will see a lot of posts telling you that this book alone will not guarantee you pass the test. That is true. Purchase the book with the PMFastrack CD and you will pass. Focus on key inputs and outputs from the PMBOK. Also, the Hot Topics flash cards are good, but not necessary. I passed the test (164). I read the book a couple of times, took a RMC class, and took numerous practice tests on the CD to identify gaps. I would not recommend the class unless your company will pay for it. The class basically covers the book with a few other tips. Good luck on your test.

Best book to prepare you for the exam
I found this book as the best resource to pass the exam. The advantage this book has over Kim Heldman's book, which I also read, is the focus this book has towards the exam. It highlights all what you need to memorize, concepts that you should know, etc. The sample questions aren't all that great. From a strategy perspective, I would recommend that you first read Kim Heldman's book to get a thorough understanding of Project Management and then use this book to prepare for the exam. Best of Luck. BTW: Don't forgot to read and reread the PMBOK.

Author Nicholas Lore uses the techniques of his career-guidance network, the Rockport Institute, to make The Pathfinder a substitute for a great job counselor. Through goal setting, list making, and other techniques, the book leads readers though the process of deciding exactly what they want to do for a living and finding a way to make it happen. Lore realizes that people have different temperaments and decision-making methods, so he provides individualized advice to suit each one. He also understands that creating a new career requires courage as well as desire, so The Pathfinder devotes plenty of space to motivation and overcoming fears. While anyone looking for a new career will find direction with this guide, people who didn't know they were looking may decide to start once they go through Lore's probing self-examination process.

I'M A TOUGH CRITIC... REALLY TOUGH CRITIC
I've read a lot of personal development books & used a lot of personal development tools. More than most people-- make that MUCH more than most people. I guess I figure that the way to continually become a smarter person is to find a REALLY smart person & listen to what they have to say. I don't typically rave about books, I've never posted a review on Amazon.com before but with this one I just HAD to.

Nicholas Lore is brilliant. His book spoke right to me. It could not have been a better training session if he had been sitting with me in my living room. His advice is right on, so painful at times it hurts...so true to life at times that you'll laugh out loud. An excellent resource to help you take a good hard look at your life, your goals and your ability to have a career that leads to a lifetime of satisfaction & success. He helps you discover all of the right questions to be asking yourself... and he does it in a FUN way. I read it cover-to-cover in one weekend. And I did most of the exercises twice.

This book is not over anyone's head. Nor is it written below anyone's comprehension level. It's straight forward, from the hip, talk about how to want it, plan it and get it. I'd recommend it for anyone who is committed to investing the time & effort to help yourself grow.

At $14 this book is a steal (oops, I hope Nicholas isn't reading this). Invest in yourself!

PathFOUND! through this wise & wonderfully entertaining book
This wonderful book is an inspiring and entertaining read- it launched a sea change in my life. Leagues ahead of other 'parachute' type books, Nick Lore's approach is a tangible and systematic way to understand what type of work will bring you success and satisfaction. Rather than focusing on choosing a new job title "doctor/lawyer/musician" Nick puts the focus on what doing the job entails, and matching your disposition with the day-to-day realities of doing the career. It's full of realistic and inspiring means to make the transition. Even if you do not intend to reinvent your career, the insights and tools Nick offers are valuable to stay connected and fresh, whatever you do.

Absolutely wonderful
This book is a refreshing and welcome change from the average self-help, career-oriented book. Nicholas Lore uses a completely different perspective wherein the reader is 100% engaged in designing his/her path towards a fulfilling career and ultimately, life. This books takes readers on a journey of self-discovery that is useful and applicable to their life goals. The principles apply not only towards careers but other facets of personal life such as relationships, decision making and many others. Anyone who seriously reads this book must gain something new and helpful nomatter what path along life this person is. I would encourage anyone to read this.

The Official Guide for GMAT Review
Published in Paperback by Ets (September, 1986)
Authors: Publication Ets and Educational Testing Service
Amazon base price: $9.95
Used price: $14.00
The Official Guide for GMAT Review is the only study guide on the market with real--though retired--questions from old GMATs. Published by the Educational Testing Service and the Graduate Management Admission Council (the organizations that administer the GMAT), this book is an excellent guide to the kinds of questions likely to appear on your exam--because they've appeared on exams already.

The book begins with an overview of the exam itself, brief descriptions of the different types of questions, and a list of skills that each question type is designed to measure. A very thorough review of the math skills you'll need for the exam is followed by chapters on problem solving and data sufficiency, as well as individual chapters on the three types of verbal questions. Each of these chapters includes strategies for doing well on the exam, hundreds of sample questions, and explanatory material for all the questions. The chapter on the analytical-writing-assessment (a.k.a. "essay") portion of the exam includes all 180 possible questions as well as guides to the standards used in judging your responses.

This book is not intended to provide "shortcuts" or "tricks to fool the ETS"--many others on the market can do that for you. It does, however, provide hundreds of actual GMAT questions. As a result, The Official Guide for GMAT Review is an excellent supplementary tool if you're serious about preparing for this major exam. --C.B. Delaney

Can't get much better than straight from the source
When preparing for your GMAT you want to try to practice with questions that are as close as possible to what you'll see on Test Day. The Official Guide is full of them! Although this book won't give you much in terms of advice (check out a Kaplan or PR book for this), it will give you plenty of opportunity to test your skill level. Using this in conjunction with one of the books mentioned above is a very effective method of getting ready. Good luck to all on your test!

If you're serious- buy this book!
While the book is no help in brushing up on math, and the questions on the archaic floppies are the same as those in the book, if you want a better score, get this. While Princeton Review and Kaplan are great for re-learning your math, they can only approximate the questions on the GMAT, and they can be confusing.

This course is excellent because it ggives you real questions. This prepares you mentally for the GMAT, and is an excellent tool for your last week of studying. Also, becuase the format is the same as the real GMAT, you won't stress about anything on test day.

Some warnings: do the test on the disks (it's the same as the book, and gives you valuable practice on taking the computer test); don't try to learn the math from the meager review; and do one essay question (the software is so primitive, you have to get used to it!).

Also, this course accurately predicts your GMAT score (it hit mine on the nose).

Forget others
In my opinion this book will be the only one to worth its price. This book is "must" for every exam takers. It reflects all the material that you are responsible for. For that reason forget about all the other books such as Kaplan, Barrons, Princeton etc. These books are a piece of ... and you don't have to use them. Because you should think that ETS is aware of these books' strategies and questions. In sum, there is no alternative for this book.
