Comprehensive. Readable. Immediately Practical.
Increasing emphasis is placed on marketing in today's competitive world. Getting the word out to the right market in the right way is crucial to success. If the right people learn about the product or service at the right time, in a way they can accept and believe, there is a good chance they will buy. And that's the principal objective. Marketing exists so sales can be made. That's why I got warm feeling when I discovered that this book has two chapters on selling. But marketing can be expensive and corporate executives want to understand what campaigns will cost and what kind of return on investment they can expect. There's a chapter on budgeting.

This is an impressive book. It covers a lot of material and organizes it well. Twenty-one chapters and an index. Don't believe the title, though. It's going to take you more than a day to get through this book. There's just so much there! Very complete. Note: This is the kind of book that serves as a great reference work as well as a cover-to-cover read.

The author begins with a chapter on some of the basics of marketing, then launches into the importance of knowing your market and understanding positioning and branding. Chapter 4 addresses creating marketing plans, which, amazingly, isn't covered sufficiently in the real college courses. Creative thinking is explored, then cleverly connected to strategic planning. Music to my ears-someone who actually understands that marketing creativity has to actually do something to produce strategic results, or it's useless.

Skill-focused chapters enable readers to learn about copywriting, design, and working with an advertising agency. The chapter on product launch even includes discussion on business life cycles. Public relations is covered in two chapters, including one specifically addressing the all-important media relations. A discussion on demographics is followed by a couple of chapters about on-line marketing.

The book design is helpful. Large enough type and enough white space to make it very readable. The language of the text also helps-interesting, flows well, appropriate stories. For executives, business owners, marketers needing new perspectives and reinforcement, and for students, this book is a treasure.

Business/Accounting students
This is an excellent resource. The summary at the beginning of each chapter is simple to understand. The sample test will give you lots of practice. The exams I had were similar to the ones in this book. And the crossword puzzels at the end of each lesson made studying fun. I highly recommend this book as part of your study curriculm. No accounting student should study with out it.

Public Education as a Business; Real Costs and Accountability

Bloated and inefficient
This book reveals that public education is a continuing scam masquerading as a cost effective benefit for the children of the body politic. It's yet another testament to the syndrome of hypocrisy and self serving behavior that typifies the leadership of the public education establishment. Be certain that it's not an indictment of the thousands of well-meaning teachers and workers, those whose dues are being pilfered for political purposes by corrupt cadres at the top; no. It is however another dagger thrust into the heart of the problem, the ceaseless dishonesty of entrenched elites.

These people have for too long formed an iron triangle with a vastly corrupted Democratic party establishment with its concommitant dependence on illegal teachers unions campaign contributions, and the lobbyists who serve their cause. As the numbers in this book (highlighted by forensic accounting) frame the case, the game is over, just not the battles. Like any corrupted elite these educational establishment grinches will continue to fight a rear guard action whose sole purpose will be to stretch out their reign of priviledge and neglect.

Because of the rise in the proliferation of information, made possible by the increases in power of the microchip (and the attendant reductions in costs) we can herald the day when students will once again be served by those who truly have their best interests in mind. But, power to the people never occurs without a fight and the courage of the few who rise up to fight that power.

A great book which should be read by every legislator and citizen. I know, wishful thinking, but isn't it refreshing to dream of the possible?

Read Better Remember More
As a teacher of learning disabled students, I have used this book with my older students to help them attain the skills they need to improve their reading comprehension. Read Better Remember More presents reading skills in a systematic way that builds upon each skill that has been mastered. It contains 20 minute lessons on skills such as using the dictionary, finding the main idea, finding the supporting details etc. Each lesson is self-contained and focused on one skill. It also contains a pre-test that helps identify a student's weaknesses and strengths although it does recommend doing each lesson in order and not omit anything. This is so the student does not miss any helpful information.Reading More Understanding Better can also be used by students working on their own because the lessons are clear and the explanations are comprehensive. This book was recommended to me by another reading teacher and I am recommending it to others as well.
