Fascinating book on knowledge in organizations
This book offers a fresh perspective on knowledge in organizations. Clearly, the book was written for an academic audience and reflective practitioners, but if you take the time to read its core messages, you will think differently about the knowledge assets available to the firm.

The model I've been looking for
Outsourcing Training and Education guides practitioners through high-powered outsourcing initiatives. In my own work as a consultant I work on a very much smaller scale, but found the models proposed applicable to the outsourcing of foreign language training in companies. Second language training (at least here in Italy) is very much a reality outside the usual 'logic' of corporate training and my own experience has convinced me that one of the reasons this specific training very often does not get the job done is exactly this. When benchmarked against other training, foreign language training comes across as largely an ad hoc affair in which issues such a corporate culture, strategy, evaluation practices etc. are all deemed irrelevant. I shall be using Outsourcing training and Education as one of my main 'bibles' in any further consulting work in this area.

Own The Place! Curriculum Package

Very organized and complete curriculum guide
Own the Place is an educator's dream. It is very organized, listing objectives, vocabulary, and complete information for each chapter. My colleague and I will be team-teaching the unit to eighth grade students this last quarter of the school year. We wanted a curriculum that will be interesting and fun and Own the Place seems like it will be just that. The kids are excited about it! We are having them make items to sell in school and also items to be donated to different agencies and organizations in our community. I would definitely recommend this complete curriculum to any educator who wants to teach career goals using hands-on methods.

Good for planning parachute activities
This book pretty much tells it all, from how to choose the right parachute for your activities to care and maintenance to how to play with it. They list close to 60 different parachute games, separated by low, medium and high activity levels. They describe the game, often with a picture and then offer some insight of what often happens with the children playing it. In addition to listing any additional equipment necessary (balls or a second chute), they'll talk about the duration of the game, when to play the game, good lead in activities and good follow up activities. They also talk about the developmental skills each game encourages.

I used this to help develop a curriculum program that I take to schools. It is a great resource for any game leader, educator, recreational director, etc. that uses parachutes.

book to note---Chemical Heritage magazine
This book is an institutional history of the College of Pharmacy of the University of Cincinnati prepared in commemoration of its 150th anniversary. Begun in 1850 as a private school of pharmacy under the sponsorship of the Cincinnati Pharmaceutical Association, the school remained independent until its merger with the University of Cincinnati in 1954. The book is divided into eight chapters, the first four of which deal with the independent school, and the last four (organized by College Dean) with its history after the merger. The book concludes with six appendices listing students, faculty, etc., a bibliography, and a section of notes. As is to be expected, the book deals largely with administration, faculty, and building changes, though the authors' also make some attempt to trace changes in the curriculum and to set their story within the context of the city's history and important developments in the history of pharmacy as a whole. Indeed, each chapter concludes with a time line, summarizing both local and national developments.
Though books of this type are seldom of interest to readers who are not among the faculty, students, or alumni of the school itself, they are of vital importance as the first stage of documentation for larger, more generalized histories. And, as any one who has ever worked on such a history knows, they involve an incredible amount of painstaking research to track down names and dates. The authors are to be congratulated on a job well done and the College of Pharmacy for its willingness to support this historical endeavor.
As the book's acknowledgements indicate, among the rich archival sources available to the authors were the wonderful collections of the University of Cincinnati Medical Heritage Center, assembled over the last 30 years by Billie Broaddus, and strongly supported by the College of Pharmacy. Consequently, it is ironic that this book's publication should be followed by the announcement that the University has seen fit to close down the center and disperse its holdings - a tragic event, not only for the Cincinnati medical and pharmaceutical community, but for historians in general.

A Must have for all trainers and public presenters.
This is a book about communicating visually and drawing for those of us who do not know how to draw. Excellent. Simple. Straight-forward and fun. By the fourth of the fifth page, you're itching to try some of these pictograms and reaching for the nearest pencil, you will not need paper because there's plenty of white space provided for just that purpose!

If you think of yourself as someone who can't draw or if you believe that you are 'artistically-challenged' then go ahead and buy this book. By the end you will be able to draw a lot of things - different types of smileys all the way to government buildings and a 'future' pictogram.

The graphics that the authors teach you are carefully picked to suit a variety of business situations and provide a wonderful resource that should be kept on every public presenter and trainer's bookshelf.

Good insight into leadership
The Power of Leadership is one of my favorite quick reads (short book) with very useful quotes and stories from some of the world's greatest businessmen and politicians. The book has a quote and then a brief evaluation of what the quote is trying to convey to the reader. I believe Maxwell's interpretations are right on the money and a very refreshing way of looking at some of the best leadership quotes out there.
I should note that Maxwell quotes himself quite a few times (arrogance ? - you decide) but I would say this book is one of my favorites. If you are looking for a full-blown book try his book, 21 Indispensable Qualities of a Leader or 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership. The Power of Attitude is another good short-book by Maxwell.
They key to getting any long-term value out of Maxwell's books is to highlight the quotes you love and integrate them into your daily life. Practice what you read essentially. Hope this helps everyone
