An Excellent Resource for Instructional LeadersWith today's increased employment of part-time faculty members, it is critical for institutions to install programming that maximizes their effectiveness. This book focuses on sound orientation practices, development of teaching and classroom management skills, ethical and legal issues, and other key factors impacting the success of adjunct faculty. It's a must for deans and department chairs who rely on part-time faculty members to deliver a significant component of their instruction.

Managing IT/Community Partnerships in the 21st Century

A Must for Community Practitioners and Univ. Researchers! In their efforts to effect positive local change, universities have long been directly involved in shaping the community agendas of their local milieu. The same is now becoming true as it relates to improving the local technology landscape. Universities are natural partners in community development efforts given the human, intellectual and financial resources they can bring to bear on problems. They are also logical partners in community IT initiatives for these same reasons, and in recognition of the educational and technological resources resident on their campuses. "Mangaging IT/Community Partnerships in the 21st Century" is perhaps the first comprehensive examination of the critical considerations for community-university partnerships involving information and communications technology. From course partnerships to educational and business partnerships to the so-called "digital divide," this book is a must for community practitioners and university researchers alike!

A Useful Book About the Change in Training & DevelopmentA very good collection of 23 readings on organisational learning and change. I would recommend to Human Resources executives to read some of the articles. It will certainly help in understanding behaviour and attitudes on training and learning in the workplace. Reflecting on the contents will enable you to pick ideas for policies and procedures you may be changing in your organisation. Though intended as a text for those doing post graduate programmes in people management, the readings addresses the changing paradigm in organisational learning, training and development. A worthy addition to any corporate library.

Collectively SuperbI was astonished by the coverage of this book. Not only was there so much information on methods of teaching business subjects, but there were so many references and links to more information incorporated into the topics. The style of the book was very appealing. I very much enjoyed being part of the audience to who he was writing the book for. Business teachers in a whole should read this book. It definitely gives one a taste for some change if its needed. Overall, I thought this book was an exceptional learning aid to any business teacher.

Critical, funny and differentMarketing and Social Construction is not an easy book. The writing is sometimes very funny and engaging but also sometimes complex and long winded. However, if you've any interest in business education and/or social science then it is a must read. Hackley subverts all the usual literary and intellectual conventions of the marketing/business/management book genre. The result is a very appealing read for students, researchers and academics in these fields particularly if they have a critical inclination. Its refreshing and wide in scope, and offers hundreds of useful references for researchers in marketing, organisation and management studies. Its also useful for researchers and students studying psychology or other social sciences. Not to everyone's taste but I loved it: all other marketing books are exposed as populist and cliche-ridden in comparison. It is indispensible for anyone doing a PhD in these fields because it explains what social constructionism means. Frankly I can't imagine any executives having the inclination to read such an iconoclastic and critical book about management theory but if they did they would learn something about how management ideas become popular through university and publishing politics. A very personal point of view, crammed with insights.

Tales of Teaching and Unicycles - Both Require a Steady HandThere is nothing that is more devastating to good instruction than a failure to achieve the performance you expected from your learner. No matter how carefully you craft an objective or present the material to support the instruction to meet that objective, there is no guarantee that the learner has mastered the objective unless you accurately measure the learner performance. Mager opens the book with his famous unicycle example. If someone has an objective to learn to ride a unicycle a set distance without falling, you should not test the learner on their ability to identify the parts of a unicycle. It is especially important in this age of technology-based instruction (TBT) that you carefully consider how you are testing the objectives stated in your instruction. Most computers cannot simulate riding a unicycle so you may be tempted to ask questions about the parts or the history of the unicycle. In this programmed text, Mager will help you refine your design skills so that you always know whether your test item is actually measuring your objective. Dr. Mager uses a programmed text approach, so there will be pages for everyone to read and pages that offer additional practice and assessment to help you master the skills taught. The real reason to adopt the skills Mager presents is not so you can be a better designer, it is to make sure that you are dealing fairly with the learner. Learners do not trust instruction that promises one thing and delivers another. Successful completion of this book, will better equip you to design and measure valid and successful instruction every time.

Excellent book for med trans students (coming from one!)I am so glad that I bought this book! It is very helpful and insightful. I am currently in a two-year Associate of Science in Medical Transcription degree program, and while I am very happy with my training at the college, I felt clueless as to: how to start looking for a job, what I should look for in a position, what to expect in salary for my first job, how to do my resume with no on-the-job medical transcription experience, etc. This book covers it all! It has good information on all of the above mentioned topics AND stories from working medical transcriptionists and how they got their first jobs. It also has websites relevant to medical transcription and many more tips including a chapter on "tricks of the trade." This is an excellent book if you need ideas on how to start after you graduate. I highly recommend it for any medical transcription student!
Also, great section on what interview questions are illegal.
