I'm pleased to announce that Good News! has recently been nominated for the Beeman Award by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE). Good News! (from the Corwin Press web site) is:a book that gives specific step-by-step guidelines for successful school/public relations, especially for a school district employee that has been assigned the task but who has no background and training in public relations. Most districts do not have public information officers, and don't recognize the need for them, until a crisis hits (student harmed or killed, employee arrested, low test scores, press reports on failing and decaying schools), and the school or district is coping with damage control. And it never occurs to these same districts to effectively use PR to broadcast the "good" news, as a way of banking credits against future bad news. The book is unique because it used Bleiker's life preserver principles, employs the use of the Internet for strategic PR purposes, and is written so that an inexperienced person at a school/district can serve as the public relations specialist.

I bought this book for my daughter. She is in the college application process, and the student essay was really stressing her out. (There is so much hype and conflicting information from school, guidance, and the other kids!) The information in this book was perfect -- it's not essays to copy, but a true "how-to" on writing winning essays, step-by-step. The examples are clear and totally geared to the student-reader. The advice is practical and easy to follow -- right down to the steps for submitting the application online. A real bargain!!

As a counselor in a Community College, I found this book to be an excellent example of ways in which our students could use their degrees. Many of the students at a two year college are not aware of what they could use their degrees for and this book helps to make them aware of their options.

After searching everywhere for a Gregg Shorthand transcription booklet and cassettes, this was the only place that I found that sold this item. Because the booklets and cassettes contains everything I was looking, I am happy to say that I am able to brush up on my shorthand now. Thank you Amazon.com

I found out the 92" edition helpful and I would like to know what's with the more recent edition of the book.

This book was originally loaned to me by an administrator at my graduate school. I borrowed it twice, for several months each! I finally bought the book because it is such a great reference. It gives overveiws of broad areas, such as law, business, writing and publishing, scientific journalism and education, both formal and informal. For each section, there are bios and interviews with people holding various positions within the field. And there are great tips for how to prepare yourself for the change, as well as things to expect after the leap (for example, many of these careers are a one-way change, meaning the door to research closes). However, the most valuable part of the book (and the reason I purchased it) is the contacts with trade organizations. For each area, there is a list of several organizations, listing who they are, what the mission is, what they offer and how to contact them. Bottom line, if a lifetime of benchwork and grantwriting doesn't seem like you, but this book. You might find yourself identifying with a career you never would have thought about otherwise.

This resource is invaluable for any high school or college student seriously researching and considering a health professions career. It's great for the "pre-med" student who isn't "pre-med" anymore, but still wants a career in health care. It's a library MUST-HAVE for their career/academic advisor as well! I find the most valuable information is the easy reference to all the most important websites on each career for the student's and advisor's further research, plus the comprehensive by state listing of all the accredited programs for each career. How did I survive without this guide?!

When I read "The Hidden Classroom" by Judith G. Margulies I had my eyes opened much wider to the problems of - and possible solutions to - teaching in the American classroom. The author has been remarkably candid in detailing her agonies and triumphs as a public school teacher. This is a book any teacher would identify with, as well as discover inspirational ideas for truly educating our children.
