The recent publication date of this book allows for greater understanding for today's youth. Being part of a summer school class, I was among the first people in my high school to evaluate the book for the regular school year. Key concepts in this book are efficiently shown, and all the basic principles of economics (supply & demand, business types) are outlined very nicely. Although our school did not partake in it, the book also comes with a set of interactive CD's, allowing the instructor to visually show the effects of economics on daily life. There are an amazing number of brightly-colored graphs and pictures to demonstrate the book's main points. This text was extremely successful in helping me gain an appreciation for the backbone of our nation's economic standing.

After receiving my BS, I thought I was done with school forever. Until I realized that an arts and sciences degree and quarter will get you a cup of coffee.

So on to an MBA school to get me some real, practical education.

Most MBA schools require Econ as a prerequisite. I had the option to take the class, and spend several thousand dollars, or take two CLEP tests, one for Macro and one for Micro for seventy bucks a pop. You do the math.

I used Harper Collins' College Outline's Intro to Economics as my main text. I would recommended that book to anyone wanting to understand the subject. However, it has one serious drawback: No solved problems, or even problems to solve.

So I had to pick up this book, REA's Problem Solver in Economics, to complement it. The Problem Solver explains how to think through economics problems. I think both approaches (The expository HCO Intro and the hands-on Problems Solver) are necessary. However, this book can teach you economics all by itself. The explanations heading the chapters are lucid, easy to follow descriptions of the underlying theory. And the problems get into the nuts-and-bolts of thinking like an economist.

It is maybe a little advanced for some, but I am a math nerd, so appreciated the thoroughness. Everything considered, it was money well spent. Both books together cost less than half that of a standard text, and I understood econ better than your average bear in two months' time.

This book has been impossible to buy for a decade now, and I continue to miss having it. It provides a thorough and historical comprehension of the field of international education. It has a nice written style, concepts are well described and it is context oriented. I hope a third edition is a future plan of both editors and publishers.

Articulate and well structured, this book provides a critical appraisal of key policy areas.

Marginson, who is highly respected for his perceptive comment on Australian education, does not disappoint. The themes of:

resources and outcomes,

productivity and efficiency,

economic policies,

preparation for work,

markets in education and

private and public education, while examined within the Australian context, are of international interest

The reason that education reforms are so muddled and anemic is because most people have no idea how we arrived at our current condition. Consequently, many people consider the abolishment of the U.S. Federal Department of Education to be an extreme measure, when actually it would be mere tinkering at the fringes. This is strange since, historically speaking, the current structure of public education is a recent experiment in social-engineering wrought over roughly the past century to century and one-half. West's invaluable contribution is to unearth the origins of public education and its original claims. The first edition examined the British ontogeny, which is also important since the American ontogeny paralleled it in time and argument. Be sure to get the later editions which specifically include an eye-opening look at the American evolution. If you only read one book on education in your entire life, read this book.

You can take the AP exam after reading this book

I got this book along with several other resume books for teachers from the library. I thought this book was the best of all of them. It is filled with actual award-winning resumes by real teachers. The authors point out the special features and strengths of each resume. What I especially liked is that they focus on the visual style and formatting of a resume along with the content.

Using the examples and tips in this book, I re-formatted my resume to showcase my strengths and be easier to read. I had sent my old resume to someone in response to a teaching job he had, but I never heard from him. Still hoping to get in at this school district, I sent my new and improved resume to a different person, hoping she might have some openings instead. Well, she gave a copy of my new resume to the first person and he called me the same day for an interview!! I know it sounds like a cliche, but it really happened. My new resume got me in the door, and I got the job!! I highly recommend this book!

This is the most unique and pertinent book on what MBAs learn! Highly recommended!
