You'll read it more than once.
The true value in this book is the dynamic ideas and "action items" I was able to incorporate to manage and motivate my long term employees . . . who I thought had reach their plateau. This book worked for me.

Extremely Insightful
Mark has been able to capture a part of the business that many of us struggle with. Mark has been able to address the issues of accountability that starts within each of us as individuals. The book is very powerful as it dives directly to the motives of individuals whether they are in the best interest of a collective environment or in the best interest of a specific individuals. A must read for anyone struggling with indivividual accountability in their organization.Mark expresses his insights in a manner that most of us would avoid.

A great book about creating an accountable work culture
This book is very readable and is filled with practical strategies and tools to create a more accountable work environment. The personal and work examples bring the concepts to life. Mark's definition of accountability is right on target... "accountablity means that people can count on one another to keep performance commitments and communication agreements." I have used many of Mark's ideas with my clients with great success. Great book with timely ideas. Thanks!

a resource guide for the body
In my daily practice of primary care medicine, where I deal frequently with the challenging problems of obesity, sleep disorder, sexual dysfunction, inability to concentrate on tasks, fatigue, and depression, I now have another valuable resource in my armamentarium.

Dr.Edlund in very understandable language lays out a practical and sensible game plan for dealing with life's problems. His explanations of how the human body responds to time change and the variability of individuals, ie: larks vs. owls, is intriguing. How to harness time and use it to one's advantage by being cognizant of the effects of light vs. dark hours and manipulate these effects with light boxes can certainly improve the quality of one's life.

Dr. Edlund's expertise on diet, exercise, sleep, and pharmacology helps the reader adjust his lifestyle for a healthier existence. This book offers something positive for everyone. It serves as a user's guide for the body.

It's fun and easy!
The Body Clock Advantage is easy to read and offers practical advice on a variety of subjects. Dr. Edlund offers nuts and bolts solutions for a variety of challenges facing modern people such as reducing jet jag, improving romantic relationships, and establishing a pain free exercise program. The writing style keeps your attention throughout the book (I read it in less than 3 days!). He weaves real life examples into the advice so it's easy to "get the point" and see the value of using your body clock to your advantage.
It's hard to pick a favorite section because so many apply. I discovered that my husband is an owl and that I'm not ... I now have practical things to help me if I want to stay up late with him. I particularly enjoyed the section on not only WHY to fit breakfast into my busy day, but HOW to do it. I followed the advice and feel better at work already! I'm going to recommend this book to family, friends, and coworkers! It can help eveyone and it's easy!

Using the Body Clock to Our Advantage
In this book, Dr, Edlund condenses knowledge of human circadian rhythms into an understandable and useful package. He describes how the body clock effects virtually every aspect of behavior and performance and demonstrates how just a little knowledge of the internal clock can improve function.

The "how to " information is particularly relevant to those of us who routinely tend to cut into our sleep time or subvert our body clocks just to meet the demands of daily life. ( I never realized how many accidents occur between midnight and six , for example, forty times the daytime mortality for truckers.) The author's LENS program of light, exercise, naps and socialization, offers hope for shift workers. There are also useful programs for athletes tyring to break records, students studying for exams, dieters, when all else has failed, and even terrorism prevention.

This is an amusing, easy to use, practical book. I would have liked an index and a few more scientific references but neither detracted from my enjoyment of reading it.

Excellent
I met Hal on an airplane ... little did I know that the total stranger I struck up a conversation with was about to change everything I thought I knew about my career! He gave me a copy of his book - and even autographed it for me. I am buying 10 copies to give to my sales staff. It reinforces all of the most important aspects of selling, and it's funny too. If I could give it 10 stars, I would.

Is it really that simple!
I received Hal's book after listening to him speak at one of our company offsite meetings. I have only been in sales now 3 years and just from reading his book and listening to him speak I have learn 5 times what I learned in 3 years. Hal makes everything about selling seem so simple and easy that you want to smack yourself in the head. 'Can't be that simple, and if it is why didn't I think of this'?
Once I started to read the book I couldn't put it down, you will fly through this book in 2 hours and not even realize it. It easy to read, it's fun, and more than that it's just full of the simplest ways and steps to selling. I have applied some of what I learned from him and his book and they work, bottom line! If you are in any area of sales I highly suggest you read this book. In the 2 hours it will take for you to read it, your view on sales will change forever!

Outstanding! Quick and easy read.
As a sales professional, I found this book very worthwhile. Becker breaks everything down to simple, easy to understand examples. His pride and professionalism shine through in each chapter. If you are going to read only one book about how to sell, make this the one

an amazing autobiography of a legendary men
This book is a collection of Merton's papers published between the 70's and 90's with slight modification to fit the format of a book. Although today's research papers still refer to Merton frequently, seldom are they direct extension of Merton's works. With today's more powerful math tools and more sophisticated financial models, we may find Merton's papers too simple, just like Newton's calculus. But every time I open this book, I am always full of amazement: before Merton, only very primary math tools were applied to finance, how beautifull he fitted practically every area of finance and financial economics into the framework of modern math, and today's more beautiful works all start from there. This book is definitely a better biography of this legendary men.

PS: if you are a quant, don't forget to thank him for creating your job.

Collection of past papers
This book is a collection of thier(most of the parts are Merton's) papers written during the past 25 years. The papers are little bit changed so as to be cross-referenced through the book. Also You can find some comments in the book for the recent literatures. As you know, Dr. Merton introduced continuous-time approaches into the finance. This book deals with basic mathematics for the continuous time finance, portfolio selection, option pricing, and theory of intertemporal equilibrium. The value of this book is greater than that of papers copied separately in the library. Also it is a great pleasure to see how his theory has been evolved through the book.

The bible of continuous time approach to financial theory
I think the Nobel Prize was not enough to thank Professor Merton for his thought. The absolute and necessary book to approach continuous time Finance.

Great for all parents!
This book is great for all parents...even if they choose not to homeschool. It gives great advice and ideas for cutting corners in "regular" life to allow room in the budget for homeschooling. I am new in my research of homeschooling but I have read at least 10 books in the last 6 months on the topic and this is tie for first place on my list! A MUST for anyone concerned about "finding" the money to homeschool!

A must read
I loved this book so informative. This book is for anyone feeling they dont feel they would be able to homeschool. It gives alot advice and how to live on one income, starting your own library, and information on college. It also gives alot of freebies or low cost alternatives. The most practical book on home schooling that I have read!
This book is essential for all home schoolers that desire to or must watch the budget. Tons of practical tips on freebies and low cost activities and teaching aids, as well as other tips to make home schooling doable for anyone who wishes to educate their children at home.

Just-in-Time Accounting: How to Decrease Costs and Increase Efficiency
Published in Digital by John Wiley & Sons ()
Author: Steven M. Bragg
Amazon base price: $59.95
Average review score:

EXCELLENT FOR CONTINUOUS PROCESS IMPROVEMENTS
This book is the best in the market so far for accounting process improvements. The author did a great job in outlining the traditional and revised accounting procedures. Lots of opportunities available to streamline the work process and enhance the information flow. There are lots of useful flowcharts and tables that you can apply to your company right away.

Get this book - It could make your career
I wish this book existed during the turbulent 80's and early 90's. Outmoded accounting system's, corporate reorganizations, high employee turnover, pressure to do more, faster with fewer resources. As a Controller, most of my biggest headaches involved the amount of time required to close the books. The original closing schedule was 10 days into the new period. Then it was 8 days. Then 5, then 4 days.

I can't even guess at the time I could have saved had I known the techniques the author demonstrates in Just-In-Time Accounting.

This is not your usual accounting tome, based on statistics and theory. This is real stuff. Built out of scar tissue, experience and real world solutions. They are not necessarily easy solutions but lasting solutions worth the effort to implement.

The content deals with streamlining some basic areas:

Cash - How to speed up the process but still keep control. Some very interesting ideas about corporate credit cards, using your bank and lock boxes to save time and money.

Sales & Accounts Receivable - Some good ideas about redundant approvals, and minimizing paper.

Inventory - With hundreds of physical inventories under my belt I can vouch for the absolutely necessity of doing what the author recommends. This area was one of my great bugaboo's. Nothing affects the balance sheet like an inventory error. This involves bills of material, suppliers, production records, and computer system's. This is a whole world in itself but the problem(s) and solutions are concisely described here. Get your inventory under control and the rest is cake.

Accounts Payable - Good stuff that took me a long time to discover on my own.

Cost Accounting - Mostly about why you need it and how it allows you to spot P&L problems before the month ends. This is one of the critical areas to review since it is necessary for faster closes. Get the major variances identified early in the month instead of wasting time digging it up 4 or 5 weeks after the events occurred. One comment I have is the need for weekly staff meetings to review what happened last week, how will it affect this week and what is being done about it. These meeting will point out problem areas for the controller to preempt delusional variance explanations after monthend.

Payroll - Many good ideas that work. I have used the barcode system's.

The Budget - You probably know about these already but there are some time-saving techniques to minimize constant re-casting and interations.

EDI - I'm not too familiar with this.

The Quick Close - It can be done. This tells you how and I can vouch for the soundness of the concept. I actually set a corporate-wide benchmark of 1-1/2 days using these techniques. In my view that is the real payoff since it is the realization and payoff of all the other hard work. Gives you more time to do yet another iteration of the budget.

Some of the examples apply to huge corporations but most of the principles are universal. I really can't find fault in this book. It tells the controller, in the real world, how to get your system(s) sorted out. I have seen many "instant pudding" or fad of the month cause real damage if it didn't really work. There is no downside to these techniques. This is motherhood and apple pie. You can't go wrong trying.

Lots of Tips
A great reference on aspects of operational accounting -- easy to read and use format.
