Organize MY Family? ...In desperation, I turned to "Organize Your Family...Simple Routines For You and Your Kids". I am an incredbly left brained person and orgnization comes somewhat naturally. My daughter is extremely right brained. The problem is comunicating my ideas into something she can understand and follow. Not as easy as one might think. This book saved her life and my sanity. There are a lot of books on the shelves, but they deal mostly with desks, files and grown-up stuff. Our goal was to teach organization now so that she can accomplish more in life. The book was easy to follow and broken up in to easy-to-refer-back-to categories. We still have a ways to go, but we have put some of the tecniques into practice.

interesting book on partnerships with suppliersIt is an interesting book on partnerships in Supply Chain Management. The authors elegantly described one of the softer issues, in the world that is running for a quick fix solutions, in Supply chain management. Authors clearly explain different models available for the managers facing the problems of Supply Chain Management. Quite useful !

Practical guide for the "I don't have time" peopleI was trapped in that circle. I never had the time enough and I wanted to do it all. With this book I realized that some of the work I was doing could be done by someone else. I used to expend to much time in some tasks that I thought could be worth and now I know they're not. You must have this book in your library, it has very useful aids, questionnaires that will help you find your weaknesses. I bet you'll think like me about this book.

A Good Read!Doc Morey's inexpensive, practical book takes a no-nonsense approach to operating effectively on the telephone. He gives special attention to people who perform customer-service and sales roles. The book briefly describes common worker-on-the-phone problems and offers a quick rundown on how to overcome them. Its concise format helps make it a handy reference guide for anyone who regularly works on the telephone. The specific, efficient tools offered actually can increase your telephone effectiveness, so we [...] recommend this book for anyone who uses the phone in business, especially telemarketers and customer service representatives. Supervisors might want to take a look, as well, so they can train staffers and develop guidelines.

Insider's Subjective AccountIt seems to be a common desire that once a person leaves a media organization, he or she wants to give a personal account of the "inside" view following the severing of the ties. That's the genre for this book. In February 1986 Joyce tendered his letter of resignation to Gene Jankowski. He begins his tale of the events leading up to that action by first describing the early years of the organization he left, CBS. "CBS News consistently measures itself by its past" he writes. He talks about the "glory days" of Edward R. Murrow and the "handful of young men" who created broadcast news from scratch, with no model to follow.
It is hard to comprehend how corporate decisions are made. Dan Rather inherited a prestigious news organization as far as ratings were concerned. While his performance has kept the network at or near the cellar the entire time he's been in the anchor slot, he seems arrogantly secure in his position. Joyce points out that both inside CBS and outside there was concern when Walter Cronkite announced he was stepping down, that Rather did not have the qualities necessary for the anchor slot. It was assumed Roger Mudd would be next in line to replace Cronkite. Subsequent ratings all these decades later showed Joyce's observation at the time was correct. Evidently the decision-makers at CBS have an agenda other than public preference.
There are other glimpses of the inner workings of CBS during the 1980s. For anyone still interested in CBS, perhaps better phrased, for anyone interested in corporate bureaucracy this book is full of examples of decisions that were not always the most logical.

A good resource if you're struggling to implement changeIf your organization or team is struggling to implement change, this book may be of considerable help. On a somewhat theoretical level, Levit describes a "response-managed organization" where the organization strives to be as responsive to their customers as they expect their vendors to be towards them. This makes a lot of sense but, while Levit does provide a framework to achieve this level of response, from a practical standpoint most organizations will struggle to achieve this. Part of the reason for this challenge is reflected in what Levit calls the 5 percent rule: "Of the time invested in each step in a process, only 5 percent contributes directly to the desired outcome. The remaining 95 percent of the time does not add value to the outcome." For the most part, this is true - and if you don't believe it you've either never been involved in a process improvement initiative or you're not in touch with the reality of you own organization's frailties. The bottom line is, if you're in a corporate environment and are actively involved in process improvement you should read this book. However, don't expect this or any other book to improve your team's ability to successfully implement process improvement initiatives - dedication, persistence, talent, and probably some outside expertise are all necessary ingredients. Redesigning HR for Strategic Advantagethis is a fabulous book that highlights a very underlooked area...one of my favorite reads this year....too frequently, managers do not realize the huge amount of value that can be realized through a well-run hr department...no matter how great the business, without execution nothing matters....Tony Miller does a great job of highlighting how HR fits at the center of an organization, its importance, and how HR can help a company obtain its goals...he draws upon a number of cases to help illustrate how to both build an HR department and improve an exisiting one....i strongly suggest this book for HR execs, managers and students who are fascinated with the study of business

In the 20/80 rule, this is the 20 to get you 80% on route.A very good and flexible guide. It will take a lot of development out of your hands and can very easily be adapted to meet your (clients) needs.
Unless you have enough time on your hands to re-invent the wheel of developing workshops on this important subject, this guide is the best there is to get you started at the near-end of creating a very good workshop.

Ordinarily this would be more than enough for me to recommend the book. But in this case, there's a much better collection of these photos for you to own. _Eudora Welty Photographs_, also published by University of Mississippi press, includes the hundred photos collected here plus about eighty others. Although it lacks Welty's introductory essay, it more than compensates with a tribute from Reynolds Price and an in-depth interview. The photo reproduction is superior as well. So skip _One Time, One Place_ and buy _Eudora Welty Photographs_ instead.
