Ruth Klein makes you ask yourself, what's so important that's keeping you from marketing yourself and your business? If you answer lack of time, this book links them up to show you how one works with the other. It's a good marriage of topics. I bet the most talented personal marketers you know do it without even trying... now you can be one of them.

Though written nearly 40 years ago, the strategies outlined in this book still ring true. Problems with time management are indeed timeless, as are the solutions. This book actually presents a "fresh" look at time management, void of the psychobabble that so infects such works today

With today's increased employment of part-time faculty members, it is critical for institutions to install programming that maximizes their effectiveness. This book focuses on sound orientation practices, development of teaching and classroom management skills, ethical and legal issues, and other key factors impacting the success of adjunct faculty. It's a must for deans and department chairs who rely on part-time faculty members to deliver a significant component of their instruction.

When this book was first published in 1991 it presented a viable approach to getting IT under control. The 1995 second edition contained refinements and was even more valuable because it came out in the aftermath of the industry-wide movement to decentralize, which only reinforced the central theme of the book: IT needs to be managed centrally. Although this book is as valid today as it was when first published, others with a fresher approach have been published in the ensuing 7 years since the second edition. However, this book is still invaluable as a secondary text for a number of reasons:

(1) It is focused on business control of IT, and centralized control at that. This message needs to be reinforced, in my opinion, and the book provides compelling reasons for doing so.
(2) Chapter 3's discussion of the IT director's job is really an examination of politics and challenges that still doggedly remain in IT in spite of being exposed year after year. The case studies in this chapter alone make this book worth buying and reading. Chapter 4, The Culture Gap, is also invaluable and shows that after 7 years since this edition came out that we're still grappling with the same old issues.
(3) The book's anecdotes, case studies and pull-no-punches comments about pitfalls and challenges are sanity checks that should be revisited by pulling this book from your shelf, dusting it off and turning to a random page - you are sure to spot a phrase or illustration that will influence you. Think of it as high-tech I Ching.

If you want a more up-to-date text on managing IT methodically and quantitatively I recommend anything written by Dan Remenyi. However, if you want deep insights and a book from which you can find inspiration or ideas by turning to a random page, this will serve you long after the more technical tomes have lost their appeal.

As a first line supervisor in a police department, I am required to supervise down and accept from above. This book helps me understand why and how messages from above are received below. I've learned some of the hidden motivators for employees and supervisors alike. This should be required reading for any new supervisor. It will help him understand what is happening beneath the surface of the organization and the people.

An excellent approach to the application of NLP to business. Fresh ideas. Highly recommendable for managers and business people.

A masterpiece in marketing technology. It has been very difficult capturing the best insights and rolling out the best ideas in today's technology management. To lead in any industry, you need to have a larger and broader information of the markets that you are in. But it is also critical to take a careful look on industries that are driven by technologies. Tough customers and intense competition--this book reckons it all.

This is the best self-help book I've read in years. The first section addresses scores of different types of change that people may deal with, and provides tips for handling them. Then Mastering the Winds of Change covers twelve concrete, effective strategies for coping effectively with change and stress. What's particularly interesting and helpful are the real-life stories and tips from the forty peak performers the author interviewed. They include Walter Cronkite, Nobel prize winner Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Lillian Vernon, and many others. I've given the book to over 20 friends, and most of them liked it as much as I did. Reading this book really changed my life. Highly recommended

C. Robert Haywood has written a wonderful book on one of the founders (of perhaps two or three men) of Dodge City, Kansas. Wright made millions from cattle and spent it all. Four wives, and 45 years later he died in Dodge City, broke and not famous. He was one of the men who hired Wyatt Earp and was a backer of Mat Basterson, among many other more famous (infamous) Western hero. As President of the Ford County (ie, Dodge City) historical Society, I assure the reader that no better history of that period has yet been written, except perhaps Robert Wright's book on Dodge City itself. (out of print). Wright is an amazing man, from a family which included a grandfather who was Clerk of the US Supreme Court and a greatgrandfather that was president of the US during the period before the constitution. Great book. (little known fact: Wright still has in 1999 a greatgrandson age 80 and a grandson, age 49, still living. that doesn't happen very often, but with forty years or so between wife number 1 and wife number 4, etc.) George Laughead Jr.

As a professor in the Industrial Enginnering field, I think this is one of the best books I have ever seem to teach how to improve productivity in manufacturing plants. I suggest more problems at the end of chapters 3 and 4: Operation Analysis.
